[Bug 1457957] Re: puppet uses upstart for service status checks in vivid

2016-05-26 Thread david.barbion
Christian, how did you manage to uninstall upstart package without breaking the
whole system?
On my updated systems, when I try to uninstall upstart, apt-get says it have to
remove ubuntu-desktop, unity and unity-greeter:

root@:~# LANG=C apt-get purge upstart
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  ubuntu-desktop* unity* unity-greeter* upstart*
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 4 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
6 not fully installed or removed.
After this operation, 9 203 kB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n]

David.

2015-05-15 Thread david.barbion
For those who still have the problem (like me), I manage to fix it by upgrading
the firmware of my card reader.
I attach the archive that permits to upgrade. Unfortunately, the program works
only with windows but it works with virtualbox and USB sharing.

[Bug 1311847] Re: Neither PrintScreen, SHIFT+PrintScreen, nor CTRL+PrintScreen keyboard shortcuts work on Trusty

2014-10-09 Thread david.barbion
I'm also facing this issue but not at every login.

Keyboard shortcuts (sound, prev, next play/pause), LCD intensity
(directly on laptop) and many other shortcuts (CTRL + ALT + T for
starting a terminal also) are a shortlist of broken shortcuts.

When this bug occurs, I force a restart of unity-settings-deamon (unity-
settings-daemon --replace) and shortcuts are back.

[Bug 966744] Re: resume from suspend leaves me with black screen and a cursor

2012-05-03 Thread david.barbion
I just updated to latest stable kernel release (3.2.0-24.38) and I still have
the problem.
I then started back on oneiric kernel (3.0.0-19.33) and I did not have the
problem anymore.

On recent kernel, every time I close/open the laptop lid, X is frozen. I
need to reboot or restart lightdm from console.

I'm running precise on an HP 6730b with an Intel Corporation Mobile 4
Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07) which is a GM45.

In the Xorg.0.log I can find these errors every time I have the problem:
[ 145.274] (WW) intel(0): flip queue failed: Invalid argument
[ 145.274] (WW) intel(0): Page flip failed: Invalid argument

[Bug 880104] Re: Using pam_group results in: pam_group(lightdm:setcred): unable to set the group membership for user: operation not permitted

2012-03-08 Thread david.barbion
Just installed a 12.04 test VM and I still get the error message in
/var/log/auth.log:
Mar 8 23:50:00 lightdm-test lightdm: pam_group(lightdm:setcred): unable to set
the group membership for user: Operation not permitted

I also get an error message about ldap server not available:
Mar 8 23:50:01 lightdm-test dbus[736]: nss_ldap: could not search LDAP server
- Server is unavailable
however I managed to connect ssh on the vm and I get all my additional
groups...

I suspect a change in pam handling as su - does not get the group anymore...
quite strange...
lightdm and su can't fetch my groups whereas ssh can...

I can post my pam files if needed.

[Bug 294092] Re: tg3 transmit timeout in Intrepid

2009-12-06 Thread david.barbion
Hi all,

I have same problem here with an HP NC6000 with the following broadcom network
adapter:
02:0e.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5705M_2 Gigabit
Ethernet (rev 03)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 0890
Flags: bus master, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 11
Memory at 9000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K]
[virtual] Expansion ROM at 6c00 [disabled] [size=64K]
Capabilities: access denied
Kernel driver in use: tg3
Kernel modules: tg3

Here are my observations:
Sometime, the network link still up (ethtool confirm it) but input packages
seem discarded... in this case rmmod modprobe made it...
But sometime, the computer completely freezes (either magic sysrq doesn't
help)...

I saw also that it doesn't depend on packet size but on network bandwidth usage:
Full size packet in my lan causes that problem (~100MBPs), whereas full size
packet from internet works ok (~3MBPS)
MTU still at 1500 (when reducing this value, network is unresponsive)
Finally, I saw that sending and recieving packets causes lots of IO (what I
mean is that it takes remaining idle CPU).
Could it be an IRQ problem ? here is cat /proc/interrupts:
   CPU0
  0: 404858XT-PIC-XTtimer
  1: 4171XT-PIC-XTi8042
  2: 0XT-PIC-XTcascade

 14: 85470XT-PIC-XTata_piix
 15: 5669XT-PIC-XTata_piix

where you can see IRQ 11 shared... wireless works ok.

Finally, I've found what consumes all my CPU. Long time ago, I
activated the remote desktop viewer (the process is called vino-server)
and I deactivated it and my CPU gets down to a few percents usage

I then understand why removing the .gconf* folders in my home directory
solves the problem: vino-server was not set to start on log-on

I also have this issue here on an intel mobile 915GM/GMS/910GM.
I confirm that moving .gconf to .gconf.old solves partially this problem.
Partially because when I scroll-down firefox is rather jerky and makes cpu fan
speed-up (cpu intense task). Even when moving windows around.. Could this be to
a missing 2D acceleration ?

In the xorg.log:

I did not have this issue for a while...
I think it has been corrected with a proper xserver-xorg-video-intel update

With my system, it is not possible to switch to another tty (got a black

The only way to solve this is to end the session remotely...

I can confirm this bug.

The mouse click focus gets lost sometime, using alt+tab allows you
to switch to the tsclient remote host and then you can stop the
connection from the remote host and permits to close the listbox.

[Bug 224769] [NEW] Accessing a directory inside a windows share gets forgotten in Nautilus

2008-04-30 Thread david.barbion
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Since I migrate to Ubuntu Hardy 8.04, when I create a new access to a windows
share with a specified target directory, Nautilus opens and shows me the right
directory I asked. (eg: smb://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/share/dir)
But once I close Nautilus, and then I click on the shortcut created on the
desktop, Nautilus doesn't open the directory but the windows share. (eg:
smb://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/share).

This is very annoying because we do not let read access on the share so
nothing is displayed on smb://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/share.

I would like Nautilus opens with the directory displayed directly.

It's impossible to correct properties on this shortcut...

[Bug 201103] working better now...

2008-04-22 Thread david.barbion
Since one week, transmit speed is now faster (kernel 2.6.22-15).
Another thing I have found is that the signal strenght is wrongly reported:
Even if I'm rather far away the AP, the signal strength is at half but it's
impossible to connect to it.

I send the files you asked.

[Bug 201103] Re: [Hardy] B43 Performance very slow

2008-03-11 Thread david.barbion
Hello,

I have the problem on a DELL D620 (0c:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom
Corporation BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI (rev 01)).
I don't know if it kernel related, I tried modprobe'ing with b43's parameters
without success :
modinfo b43
parm: pio:enable(1) / disable(0) PIO mode (int)
parm: bad_frames_preempt:enable(1) / disable(0) Bad Frames Preemption
(int)
parm: fwpostfix:Postfix for the .fw files to load. (string)
parm: hwpctl:Enable hardware-side power control (default off) (int)
parm: nohwcrypt:Disable hardware encryption. (int)

When I'm relatively close to the AP (like 5 meters), it works well (can
get 1MByte/Sec). But when I go far the AP (like 10 meters), speed
decrease drastically (40kbytes/Sec) and something like disconnection
occurs: no packets are received from AP for 10 seconds and sometimes
more...

I tried modifying iwconfig parameters (txpower, rate, ...) nothing
helps...

[Bug 127944] Re: [gutsy]Open Office applications don't start

2007-07-27 Thread david.barbion

Hello,

When just running soffice from a console, OpenOffice is able to open its
main window, without any type of document (ie: you have to do new).
I'm able to go to tools-options menu, and then soffice freezes on some
screen options like fonts appearance... others works as it should.
So it could a gtk+font problem...
