After further investigation I realized that I had to use Configure
channels in Kmix to bring settings for microphone input ; now I can
manage full sound settings with Kmix with microphone ; if I open gnome-
volume-control record with microphone is muted so apparently now the

make sense (no reason to mute Front Mic at 100 % level) ; now I can use Skype
and Audacity with a microphone ; all this is not really satisfactory ; here are
a few remarks :

satisfactory but that works has been proposed but this settings through
gnome-volume-control (either in Gnome or KDE) is not kept when gnome-
volume-control is closed or between sessions.

now it takes for ever to collect all icons properly set in the icon box +
another bug that I had not noticed so far :
- at the very beginning of the session there is an offset in time between
indication of time in the clock icon and what is indicated by the opening
bubble when the mouse pointer
yes the test has been conducted with compiz but look at the snapshot
attached there is a problem with the window supposed to show the
molecule.

with the new kernel update to 2-6-27-10 I could recompile the proprietary
driver 8.11 supplied by ATI ; with this method as sonn as an update of kernel
is activated we loose functionability of previous driver compilation (see bug
report #237216) ; in their driver installer package they ptopose
I have just upgraded with kernel 2-6.27-10 64 bits on Intrepid and again the
same (no update !) ov51x-jpeg package does not compile. Here is what I get with
command make :
$ make
make -C /lib/modules/2.6.27-10-generic/build

with a resolution of 1680 x 1050 only a 60 Hz frequency can be selected
as maximum frequency available (Samsung 22).
I reinstalled the ati driver supplied by the ubuntu distro and the same
inconsistency existe on delivered information especially on propretary
