@Michael King

I discover the same message: the driver is active but not in use and
I have an old Nvidia card: GeForce 6200 TurboCache. When I whant to open
an other window, I have a blank window. And when I whant to see a
video in a full screen mode, I can hear the sound, however, I have a
blank window equally. This is the result of the Nvidia driver and server
X trouble, I think?

[Bug 692145] Re: Need to enter two times my pass word

2011-01-02 Thread Dragonfly
So, I discover what wrong now, I don't know if it's normal or not? If you use
some services like Ubuntu one or other through Gwibber, your pass word is
record inside a seahorse folder and the key word for this is generally the same
as your Ubuntu login. If you change your Ubuntu login, several troubles
appears, because you don't use the same pass word (but not all time, every
login)... When you log in Ubuntu trought GDM after your are login a new window
appears equaly and ask to you to enter your trousseau of key connexion
(connect you with different servivies you use who the pass word are stocked
inside seahorse). And some other trouble appears aqually in your Gnome
environment. The color of your task bar (up and down) change for a grey color
and your icons change too. Nautilus environement is changed equally??? Now, I
use the same pass word and this problem is gone. But I think there is a trouble
with the encrytion system... Because now I test an other software who use the
encryption: Crytpkeeper, is feel nice ans usefull. However, some time after
to be login in Ubuntu the trouble with Gnome environement and Nautilus come
back?...
Somebody have an idea for this question?

[Bug 396564] Re: grub2 shows 'biosdisk read error', then boots

2010-03-15 Thread dragonfly
I have the same issue as comment #17. I have my version of Karmic U.
Studio installed as a software raid with grub 2 in MBR of 1st Sata
drive, I have /boot as a separate non raid partition on same drive. I
have not flashed my bios yet since it is so recent and the new versions
don't seem to have anything usefull for me. I wanted to confirm that it
is not a hardware issue as this was a newly built system. I do have
other minor hardware issues so far, one is that I had to remove the IDE
CD drive as first boot since I could not complete post without hanging
on IDE read and it would reboot - until I switched to SATA drive as the
first boot. I don't know if the message has anything to do with this.
I am pretty sure that I do not have FDD enabled in my bios.

[Bug 178442] Re: Pulseaudio fails to initialize ICE1712 chipsets

2010-03-03 Thread dragonfly
If anyone wants to look at my Question #102783:

pulse audio fails to start- rt kernel maudio card- attempting this used
my 4GIGs memory?!

Ive tried pretty much all steps as outlined in the different comments
and the forum sticky on pulse audio but no luck with pulse.

So pablomme, I just need to learn to use jack then? JACK on top of
ALSA for audio production, with pulseaudio suspended or disabled Do I
need same setup if I want to intergrate sound in Kino, or Cinerella or
other video editors?

Is there a general mulitmedia wiki I forgot or overlooked that can give
me the rundown of how I should be setup to start using these kind of
programs with the least problems?

Hoping things will smoothe out for Lucid!

[Bug 408784] Re: [karmic] No sound output with pulseaudio

2010-02-28 Thread dragonfly
Hi!
I do not have any sound in ALSA or Pulse Audio- firefox, rhythmbox,
movieplayer etc... I have maudio delta 2496 and it worked fine in Ubuntu Studio
Hardy LTS and it works out of the box in Ubuntu 64 Karmic- without the rt
kernel. I verified in Alsa player and the channels are not muted. Envy24
Control Utility shows no movement with the monitor PCM volume meters as in
Hardy LTS. PulseAudio volume control shows movement of the output volume meter
when set to ICE 1712 (Envy24) PCI Multichannel I/O Digital Stereo (IEC958)
Stereo. Should I open a new bug?

I am attempting to post info to launchpad with apport-collect. Is it
safe to allow change everything-as asked by launchpad? It is my first
time using the application.

Note: I verified my soundcard is seen as the default card and the required

ok I just found that there is a bug with my card: Alternate channel mappings

with the rt kernel will have this bug solved and be stable; I am looking
forward to finally learning to use linux multimedia production apps-which I had
postponned until I got this latest self-built AMD system!

[Bug 178442] Re: Pulseaudio fails to initialize ICE1712 chipsets

2010-02-28 Thread dragonfly
And headaches I am having. I tried to follow the steps from comment #64
52, 53 but still cant get sound working. I hope someone can help me-
as there was a 3rd part in #52 but it applies to a diffrent card- so I
dont know how to set my channels properly. maudio only has rca anolog
stereo in and out and spdif in stereo. Anyone can detail me how to set
the channels in /etc/pulse/default.pa? I even tried to add:

 set-default-sink
 delta_out set-default-source delta_in

 to:

 set-default-sink delta_out
 set-default-source delta_in

as did Windsor Schmidt, which worked with same card in Hardy, but that
created errord in loading alsa drivers in Karmic.

There are too many workarounds I don't know which is the best one at
this point-which works!

OK!!! I have sound working finally in VLC in firefox I can use ALSA
Gnome Alsa mixer gui, Envy 24 control again but now pulse is flushed!
So no MoviePlayer for now. *Following comment #7 and editing
/etc/pulse/default.pa seemed to set my sinks/channels/devices right.
I will try to reset the /lib/udev/rules.d/90-pulseaudio.rules back to
how is was orginally (bkup) and remove ice1712.conf from comment #53
from /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/profile-sets/ and start over-
just to see if that gets both ALSA and pulse audio to work! or just sudo
aptitude --purge reinstall linux-sound-base etc... only edit
/etc/pulse/default.pa, as a succesful user did in the forums. I am
assuming that the pulse sound server is neccessary for audio
production!?

[Bug 411232] Re: karmic pulseaudio won't start when shut down with 'combined' as default sink - gnome applet volume control

2010-02-28 Thread dragonfly
After spending all day trying to get sound to work with my maudio
audiophile 2496 soundcard. I have sound after I added some
modifications for my card in etc\pulse\default.pa. as directed in a
related bug thread. But now I can't get pulse audio server to work
anymore (the volume meters for output would move at least before and it
started in preferences-sound). Also, movie player (and possibly other
apps. dependant on pulse audio) has no sound. Firefox, rhythmbox,
audacity, and vlc all have sound though but they seem to run on ALSA. I
did install gnome ALSA mixer and ALSA mixer GUI, so now I am wondering
if that started a new bug?

[Bug 173418] Re: [Hardy] NVIDIA cards using vesa driver and low screen resolutions on livecd

2008-11-10 Thread dragonfly
@Avery Day,
I don't know if it's too late to add a comment to this bug...
I have a problem now with 2.6.24-21-rt (#1 SMP PREEMPT RT) kernel and I have
lspci -nn |grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation NV25GL [Quadro4
900 XGL] [10de:0258] (rev a3)
and it worked with available modules in Gustsy's repo good enough for me at the
max. resolution my monitor allowed (old LG monitor with max. 1024X768 res).

Now with vesa that came with installation, is only 800X600 and cannot
determine screen configuration, the restricted NVDIA driver works but
only at 640X480 resolution, and envy install of same driver (96.43.05)
yields a X server fatal error with no screen detected and module missing
and I must fall back to vesa default via recovery mode. Also I typed in
nv in device line in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and this yeilds in same
800X600 resolution and lower glx modes than I had in Gutsy.

I want to know if your advice on loading the restricted driver,

Revision 3
1. Download the 173.08 nvidia beta driver here
http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html click on archive and find the 173.08
driver.
2. Purge the nvidia restricted package if installed by doing a dpkg --purge
nvidia-glx-new
3. Kill the gdm server, /etc/init.d/gdm stop
4. Install the driver downloaded in step 1, unless you are brave you need to
let the nvidia installer modify the xorg.conf file.
5. Black list the nv driver in the
/etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common (should look like this
DISABLED_MODULES=nv)
5. start gdm server /etc/init.d/gdm start

will likely solve my issue with Nvidia driver 96.43.07 as well, which is
their latest driver for my card:

Version: 96.43.07
Operating System: Linux x86
Release Date: July 16, 2008

Release Highlights

* Fixed a problem that caused TV output on secondary TVs to be black and
white on some GPUs.
* Improved nvidia-xconfig behavior when updating X configuration files
without a Module section.
* Restored compatibility with recent Linux 2.6 kernels.

was the without a Module the issue anyways or is it possibly as chef
mentions,

As stated in the workaround, I went in the
/lib/modules/2.6.24-xxx/modules.alias and I commented out the first two
occurrences of AES that link to padlock and geode hardware.

Now the issue seems to be the occurrences of AES that link to padlock
and geode in the modules.alias file that stop the kernel from loading
some device drivers.

lastly, how do you get Screens and Graphics app.? Don't know what to install
via Synaptic or Aptitude!
Tnks!

[Bug 296169] Re: available nvidia drivers either missing modules or resolution is terrible

2008-11-10 Thread dragonfly
I get things mixed up as I am still new to linux, I wrote can't load restricted
module but I think I mean load the glx driver that requires the module...(this
is the supported driver right?)
Also need to add that my screen display is off center with the default nv
driver; by almost 1/2 inch overlapping on the right side, and a 1/2 black
column with no display on left. Coupled with the 800X640 res. I have obvious
problems...

Sorry it looks like I had more than just nv driver installed and working in

Also I managed to add generic nv to xorg.config file in Hardy (2.6.24.21rt) but
nv default is using lower resolution and versions of glx than nvidia in Gutsy
of course. So still a problem.

[Bug 296169] [NEW] available nvidia drivers either missing modules or resolution is terrible

2008-11-09 Thread dragonfly
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Studio Hardy LTS
installed required restricted modules and glx and xserver-xorg-video-nv,
kernel common. Have nv quadro4 900XGL which requires 96.43.XX driver for
restricted drivers. Have an older screen but it had 1068X728 resolution in
Gutsy with default nv driver. Now the default which is vesa is lower
resolution and available restricted driver is even lower res. Install via envy
gives same restricted driver but gives fatal server error module missing and
screen not found. Trying to find fix that will allow same resolution as in
Gutsy. Cannot load the restricted module for some reason, perhaps error on my
part?
Thankyou

I have attached my /etc/X11/xorg.config file that worked good enough in
Gutsy- although does not work in Hardy...

[Bug 278549] [NEW] discrepancy between partitionner and grub installer for hardy alternate install causing OS to not be bootable

2008-10-05 Thread dragonfly
Public bug reported:

After reinstall of hardy with an alternate install DVD, which could boot and
chainload windows XP, I noticed that this time the nomenclature for my drives
was reversed. The first install, my first drive as in bios an ubuntu
partitionnner was sda, my second sdb and my 3rd sdc and my /boot partition is
situated on the first drive which is actually an IDE. I had succesfully
installed grub on sda1 (my first drive) with the ability to boot into hardy
.
For my re-install of hardy, the partitionner reversed the order calling my
first drive sdc, my second drive sda and my third sdb. So when I was asked
where to install grub, I opted for sdc1 since my first drive was now named as
such and it installed. But when I try to boot into any entry now, I get error
15, file not found or no such partition exists (for my gutsy install). In
gparted, all my installations and data partitions seem to be there but I can't
access any of them now! (My new suse that I installed just before ubuntu, my
windows and my gutsy which I had lost the boot path or files). I suppose that
my boot partition to install grub on is really on sda1 then, thus ignoring the
sdc designation by the partitionner... Also my Ide is called a SCSI1 (0,0,0)
and my second drive SCSI3 (0,0,0) and my third SCSI3 (0,1,0) . I hope that
these are the right designations for the installer.

I should add that it is an alternate install DVD of Ubuntu Studio.

[Bug 187975] Re: Startup-Manager does not show text during boot Usplash theme alternates with alternating unsuccesful bootsplash occurences until login

2008-02-08 Thread dragonfly
Added splashy and allmost all required pre-dependencies. In my
boot/grub/menu.lst

e.g. defoptions=vga=791 resume=/dev/hda5
# defoptions=splash vga=773

Issue is RESOLVED! (without sysv-rc-bootsplash!)

Therefore probably my error, not a bug?!
