[Bug 1598352] [NEW] Installer crashes on I/O error

2016-07-01 Thread drink
Public bug reported:

This is a semi-duplicate semi-automated error report. The last time, I
was installing from a DVD. This time, I was installing from a SD card
prepared using unetbootin. It seems that there is some problem with the

Installer crashed when experiencing a read error with a package file.

to the internet, so is there really any excuse for not just downloading
the deb if it won't come off the DVD?

The Saucy ISO that I downloaded wouldn't boot on amd64. Stay classy.
I finally got dist-upgraded to 13.10 and this bug is still present.
I guess I'll just file this bug AGAIN. With the SAME NAME.

[Bug 1219428] [NEW] Unlock password dialog blank on resume

2013-09-01 Thread drink
Public bug reported:

Upon resume, the password dialog did not draw its contents and did not work
typing blindly.
This is not identical to other bug reports because in this case the rectangle
for the window is drawn, but never gains any contents.
Screen photo attached.
Cannot install mainline or saucy on this machine; mainline won't dkms nvidia
and saucy install chokes at the first dialog. So I won't do that as a
troubleshooting step at this point, because of ubuntu bugs.

Re: [Bug 1213357] Re: USB3 card does not come back from suspend in timely fashion

2013-08-25 Thread drink
I'd love to, but the nvidia won't dkms under the current mainline kernel.
If you would like me to try a particular mainline kernel version, I will do
that, but your suggestion does not work for me.

drink, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the
daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you
tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the
 following tags:
 kernel-fixed-upstream
 kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
 example:
 kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11-rc5

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon
next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As
 well, please remove the tag:
 needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following
 tags:
 kernel-bug-exists-upstream
 kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
 needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
 understanding.

[Bug 1187343] [NEW] single-click on dock does not raise applications

2013-06-04 Thread drink

It is now necessary to click the icon and then click it again in order
to raise an application to the front. If the application has multiple

[Bug 1092093] [NEW] default kernel gives error bad magic number

2012-12-19 Thread drink
Public bug reported:

Selecting the default kernel gives error bad magic number. This
happened after upgrading to the -19 kernel. It's still happening with
the -21 kernel. I did not edit the conf file, this just started
happening after an upgrade. I waited for it to resolve itself with an
update, but it hasn't. I added to an old forum post about someone having
the same problem in 10.10 but I was told to open a new forum thread. I
opened a new bug instead, since it's obviously a bug, since it happened
on its own.

Yes, it happens whether I select it or it auto-selects due to timeout. All
was well until not this kernel but the last one.

So this happens after choosing the default menu entry? Could you post a
screen shot of the error, as well as the output from the boot info
 script here:

[Bug 1079652] [NEW] update manager crashes when icon selected from panel

2012-11-16 Thread drink
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.10, this bug went away for the last few days but now there is
a regression. If there are updates I get an icon with a number like
usual. Clicking on it causes it to go away and nothing pops up, update-
manager has crashed.

[Bug 1078717] [NEW] keyboard and mouse nonfunctional at boot

2012-11-14 Thread drink
Public bug reported:

I used to have this problem, but it eventually went away, and now it's
back.

When I boot, my keyboard and mouse are nonfunctional. They become
functional if I wait, just about long enough to wake my slow Vista
netbook from sleep and log in via ssh. This is relevant because if I log
in via ssh, my keyboard and mouse start working. But if I wait, they
will start working on their own.

This is horribly frustrating.

I would report a problem through ubuntu-bug except apport tells me that
the report is for a package that is not installed when I run ubuntu-
bug.. and what would I report against, anyway?

I just noticed the workaround, and I have to say, not pushing out a
release with the workaround in it is unacceptable. I could perform the
workaround, but then I'd just get a prompt on my next upgrade. There's
been days to get this out already. Obviously the holdup is not testing.

Adding xmms2-launcher to the startup apps on install is not desirable
for everyone. xmms2 is typically chosen because of reduced resource
requirements.

Re: [Bug 1020662] Re: cups cannot start on upgrade, package will not configure

2012-07-10 Thread drink
I finally just extracted the files home and proc which belong in that
directory (both were missing) and then re-ran the apt-get command, which
did the trick. It would be nice to know why they didn't come back by
themselves, what would prevent it?

dpkg says the missing file should be in there, I've run the command, the
 file is still not there.

Apparently you removed /etc/apparmor.d/tunables/home. Don't do that,
 please!

 To restore it, run

   sudo apt-get -o Dpkg::Options::=--force-confnew --reinstall install
 apparmor

I still have the problem, crashes with mms.cfg mods, package with the
patch actually fixes the problem without causing plugin to crash.

Re: [Bug 866088] Re: apport can't run dmesg

2011-10-05 Thread drink
As the user I can run dmesg. Why can't apport run dmesg if I can run dmesg?
Why wouldn't I want that data in my bug report. If you want to mark it
won't fix that's OK, but it still results in a spurious error and
invalid is inappropriate.

It's behaving as expected. If you run this as a non-adm user, then the
message in the CurrentDmesg: field will explain why it doesn't have real
