[Bug 764085] Re: Case ID: u1f-004 - Unable to stop synchronizing folder with Ubuntu One service

2011-04-28 Thread duanedesign
Ankur Jain,
Thank you for testing Ubuntu One that is a great help.
We would need the client log from the time of the test to start analyzing the
problem.
Just zip your $HOME/.cache/ubuntuone/log/ folder and attach the zip here. You
can zip the folder by right-clicking on it and selecting compress. Attach the
logs to this bug report using the 'Add Attachment or Patch' button at the
bottom of the page.

Can you also include the name of the User Defined Folder(UDF) you used
in the test.

After you attach the logs you can change the 'Status' of your bug back
to 'New'. The status of a bug report can be modified by clicking on the
current status in the yellow line, which will reveal a sub menu. You can
then set a new status in the drop down box.

Thank you for all your help.

[Bug 742970] Re: ubuntu one crashes

2011-04-28 Thread duanedesign
rbrick49,
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to
report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html.
We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the
problem.

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thanks!

2011-04-22 Thread duanedesign
Public bug reported:

I use UbuntuOne to publish some electronic books. It works now very well
and is quite convenient.

One thing is missing with the "Publish" function. There is no way to
know how many people downloaded your latest masterpiece. It is a bit
frustrating, and I think it should be implemented as a natural
complement to the "Publish" function.

Do you think it could be done?

Thanks for this service.

[Bug 762614] Re: Ubuntu One will not sync a linked folder

2011-04-22 Thread duanedesign
Sorry to hear Ubuntu One is not working as expected. Ubuntu One does not
support symlinks. You can see bug 406930 for more on this. In your test
case if you replaced 'gnome-open link-to-folder' with 'gnome-open
folder' you should be able to sync that folder without any problem.

[Bug 761578] Re: handle reaching inotify max watches better

2011-04-22 Thread duanedesign
David,
You can increase that number of watches with the following.

Open /etc/sysctl.conf for editing:
gksudo gedit /etc/sysctl.conf

Add this line to the bottom of the file (If the line exists just change the
number):
 fs.inotify.max_user_watches = 524288

2011-04-22 Thread duanedesign
Sorry to hear that Ubuntu One is not working as expected. Thank you for
filing a bug on the issue. We would need the client log to start
analyzing the problem. Could you please zip your
$HOME/.cache/ubuntuone/log/ folder and attach the zip here. You can zip
the folder by right-clicking on it and selecting compress. Attach the
logs to this bug report using the 'Add Attachment or Patch' button at
the bottom of the page.

After you attach the logs you can change the 'Status' of your bug back
to 'New'. The status of a bug report can be modified by clicking on the
current status in the yellow line, which will reveal a sub menu. You can
then set a new status in the drop down box.

[Bug 662804] Re: right-click on dashboard then crash

2011-02-18 Thread duanedesign
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 517505 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/517505

yogo2000,
looks like you have metadata from a newer version of Ubuntu One. This can
happen if you install a newer version and then go back to an older version.

WORKAROUND
1. Quit the Ubuntu One client. From the applet select Quit. Then open a
Terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal) and run the following to quit
the syncdaemon.

u1sdtool -q

2. Delete the old metadata. In a Terminal run.

rm -rf ~/.local/share/ubuntuone

3. Start Ubuntu One as you normally would. It will take a bit for it to
recreate your metadata.

thank you,

[Bug 721000] Re: Ubuntu One does not start

2011-02-18 Thread duanedesign
thank you for reporting this bug. Sorry Ubuntu One is not working as
expected. Could you please start Ubuntu One, attempt to connect and then
open a terminal and run the command:

u1sdtool -s

Also could you please attach whatever logs you do have. Please attach
the logs to this bug report using the 'Add Attachment or Patch' button
at the bottom of the page. Just zip your $HOME/.cache/ubuntuone/log/
folder and attach the zip here. You can zip the folder by right-clicking
on it and selecting compress.

After you attach the logs you can change the 'Status' of your bug back
to 'New'. The status of a bug report can be modified by clicking on the
current status in the yellow line, which will reveal a sub menu. You can
then set a new status in the drop down box.

[Bug 296242] Re: after somehow entering OVR mode, getting back to INS mode incredibly hard for new user

2011-02-16 Thread duanedesign
On my keyboard If I hit the 0 in the keypad (which is right next to the
right arrow key) gedit toggles into OVR. I also found it more difficult
then it should be to toggle back to INS. I finally stumbled on this bug
report and was able to get it switched. IMHO it should be more difficult
to enter OVR mode and/or easier to toggle out of it.

Jonathan,
you can attach your Ubuntu One logs to this bug and we can take a look at them
and see if the information is still there from the time of the crash and if it
provides any clues to what happened. You can attach the logs to this bug
report using the 'Add Attachment or Patch' button at the bottom of the page.
Just zip your $HOME/.cache/ubuntuone/log/ folder and attach the zip here. You

[Bug 672884] Re: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply messages when trying to interact with syncdaemon via u1sdtool

2011-02-15 Thread duanedesign
Jeff,
This happens because of a less then optimal way metadata is handled in versions
prior to what is now in nightlies and Natty Narwhal. Basically that's bug
LP:436612. Anyone who has a fairly large number of files in their Ubuntu One
directory I believe would want to try the nightlies PPA (please note that
downgrade to older metadata storage is not possible).

If you are interested in testing the new improved metadata storage
(which takes syncdaemon about a second or two to start) then please have
a look at https://launchpad.net/~ubuntuone/+archive/nightlies. Please
note that the nightlies releases are only automatically tested and there
is a possibility that not all features are working at all times.

The commands to add the PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuone/nightlies

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade

[Bug 665749] Re: Cant unsyc folder

2011-02-15 Thread duanedesign
This happens because the request to unsync the folder is added at the
end of the queue. So it will only remove the folder after the complete
sync of all the metadata. The U1 team is currently discussing ways to
better handle this. You can run this command in a Terminal to see the
metadata queue. At the end you should see the DeleteVolume.

u1sdtool --waiting-metadata

If you want to remove a folder fast that you have accidentally added to
the queue you can follow these steps:

u1sdtool --list-folders - note the ID that is used by new UDF
u1sdtool --unsubscribe-folder=$ID (where $ID = id that was received by running
list-folders)
u1sdtool --quit - this will quit the syncdaemon and drop the queue
u1sdtool --start - start syncdaemon again, but do not connect
(in new terminal, since this will not release the terminal right away) -
u1sdtool --delete-folder=$ID
(back in the original Terminal) u1sdtool --connect

looks like you have metadata from a newer version of Ubuntu One. This
can happen if you install a newer version and then go back to an older
version.

The Workaround

1. Quit the Ubuntu One control panel if open. Then open a Terminal
(Applications > Accessories > Terminal) and run the following to quit
the syncdaemon.

u1sdtool -q

2. Delete the old metadata. In a Terminal run.

rm -rf ~/.local/share/ubuntuone

for the new metadata to be created.

returned by that command you can clear those files and speed up the time
it takes for syncdaemon to start.

2011-02-05 Thread duanedesign
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 490988 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/490988

It looks like you have an issue with your metadata. Sometimes because of
running the ubuntuone-client when having the metadata from another user,
it fails with a lot of MakeDir and MakeFile issues, like ones in your
exceptions log.

the workaround

1. Quit the Ubuntu One client
2. Backup your ~/Ubuntu One folder and all folders synced with Ubuntu One
3. Delete the files from your ~/Ubuntu One folder and other User Designated
Folders
4. Delete ~/.local/share/ubuntuone (the command for this would be: rm -R
~/.local/share/ubuntuone)
5. Start the Ubuntu One client
6. Copy the files and folders from your backed up ~/Ubuntu One/ folder and
other UDFs back to their original folders.

[Bug 706825] Re: Ubuntu One can not handle the synchronization of a folder with lots of files

2011-02-05 Thread duanedesign
KirkoR,
Ubuntu One syncs the metadata (folders) first, then the content. 84,209 files
will likely take a bit of time you might want to leave the computer on for
awhile. There is a certain amount of overhead that must be done each time you
shut down and start back up. So shutting the computer down while it is syncing
can increase the amount of time the sync will take. You can use the following
commands to see how many, if any, files are left in the queue.

u1sdtool --waiting-metadata | wc -l

u1sdtool --waiting-content | wc -l

i would leave the computer on until both those are 0. Or at least now
you can tell if it is making any progress.

If you decide you dont want to stop the sync and remove the folders from
the cloud do the following steps.

u1sdtool --list-folders - note the ID that is used by new UDF
u1sdtool --unsubscribe-folder=$ID (where $ID = id that was received by running
list-folders)
u1sdtool --quit - this will quit the syncdaemon and drop the queue
u1sdtool --start - start syncdaemon again, but do not connect
(in new terminal, since this will not release the terminal right away) -
u1sdtool --delete-folder=$ID
(back in the original terminal) u1sdtool --connect

Jonathan,
I do not see anything in the information apport provided. We would need the
client log to better analyzing the problem.
Please attach the logs to this bug report using the 'Add Attachment or Patch'
button at the bottom of the page. Just zip your $HOME/.cache/ubuntuone/log/
folder and attach the zip here. You can zip the folder by right-clicking on it
and selecting compress.

After you attach the logs you can change the 'Status' of your bug back
to 'New'. The status of a bug report can be modified by clicking on the
current status in the yellow line, which will reveal a sub menu. You can
then set a new status in the drop down box.

2011-02-05 Thread duanedesign
cement_head,
looking at the info apport provided I noticed that the write_limit is set to
-1. The workaround is to delete the ~/.config/ubuntuone/syncdaemon.conf and
restart the client. You can do that by opening a Tereminal (Applications >
Accessories > Terminal) and running the commands:

u1sdtool --quit

rm ~/.config/ubuntuone/syncdaemon.conf

u1sdtool --start  &&  u1sdtool --connect

Also make sure you have run your updates and have the newest available
client for Lucid because it looks as though this bug was fixed.

[Bug 681198] Re: Syncing problem

2010-11-26 Thread duanedesign
Dante,
Sorry to hear Ubuntu One is not working as expected. The issue looks to be the
metadata you have is for a newer version of Ubuntu One. Installing a newer
version then going back to an older one can cause this issue. You need to
repopulate the metadata using the current version installed. You can do that
with the following steps.

To be safe please make sure you have a backup of any critical data in
your Ubuntu One folder before following these steps.

WORKAROUND
1. Quit the Ubuntu One client. From the applet select Quit. Then open a
Terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal) and run the following to quit
the syncdaemon.

u1sdtool -q

2. Delete the old metadata. In a Terminal run.

rm -rf ~/.local/share/ubuntuone
