[Bug 1894017] Re: Keyboard not working

2021-09-22 Thread Enrico Lumetti
Hello, this also happens on my laptop, Lenovo l390 Yoga. My "cat
/sys/class/dmi/id/chassis_type" is 31, my laptop is indeed convertible.
I have verified that everything is broken on
1) Xorg, gnome or KDE
2) sddm
but it works on
1) gdm3
2) wayland

What doesn't work: my keyboard doesn't work, the fn lock led is permanently on,
my caps lock led doesn't turn on when I press caps lock, the physical touchpad
buttons don't work.
My touchpad tap and tracking work, and also my touchscreen.

I can login into wayland by carefully using the on screen Qt keyboard of
SDDM. If by chance I press any keyboard key, asin comment #34, I get a
stream of characters inside whatever prompt is focused that makes it
impossible to login (same thing happens on focused prompts if I log into
X11).

I tried using evemu inside wayland as suggested in #38, and I found the
switch for tablet mode, which looks correct to me. I wonder what would
happen inside X11, but I don't have an external keyboard to test this
atm.

I tried the intel_vbtn blacklist thing, but it didn't make a difference.

How is it possible that when logging into Wayland the problem
disappears?

[Bug 1936718] [NEW] login screen can be bypass

2021-07-17 Thread Enrico Dacougnia
Public bug reported:

on Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS
Hello,
I don't know if it's worth it, but you'll know.

from working on the graphic mode, if I go to the text terminal mode
using [Ctrl]+[alt]+[F3] login do some work or not, then want to go back
to graphic mode with [Ctrl]+[alt]+[F1].

Normally, I should be login to the graphic mode to go back, but if you
use [Ctrl]+[alt]+[F2] instead, it bypasses de login screen. Tried it
with both of my PC's, same thing.

I tried it on X11 and Wayland, same thing.

If we wait long enough to pass the preset time out of the graphic mode
when on text terminal , and try to come back to graphic, it disables the
bypass.

But, if you were listening a web radio on Firefox in between, the bypass
is still accessible way after the time out.

Have a nice day.

[Bug 1879146] Re: Cryptsetup ignoring KEYFILE_PATTERN

2020-10-14 Thread Enrico Calrissian
I have the same Problem on Ubuntu Server 20.04.1 Release.

I followed the Post-Installation-Steps from
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Full_Disk_Encryption_Howto_2019.

If you add the Keyfile for the root-Partition to /etc/crypttab and
update the initramfs, it will Warn with th above said warning:

WARNING: Skipping root target md1_crypt: uses a key file

On a reboot, the initramfs does not even ask for a password anymore, it
just fails.

Very weird that we seem to be the only people on the internet having
this problem.

Problem apparently solved (i.e., SDD wakes up from S3, can remove
"mem_sleep_default=shallow" from grub) with today's BIOS update to
2.0.2. Or with some firmware update associated with it. The problem with
Dell is that these firmware updates declare to address only obscure
security tickets, not the real problems...

[Bug 1815031] Re: explicit-exit-notify option not supported

2020-01-24 Thread Enrico Ballarin Dolfin
Disconnecting the OpenVPN client NetworkManager is not sending the
SIGTERM[soft,remote-exit] to the OpenVPN server, like other clients are
doing.

This behaviour is because the explicit-exit-notify option is currently
not supported.

The OpenVPN server then tries to reconnect to the client:

[Bug 1855892] [NEW] nvme SSD disk not appearing at S3 resume

2019-12-10 Thread Enrico Segre
Public bug reported:

The only grub helping is

mem_sleep_default=shallow

but that is a bit of no brainer as it suspends to S2 preventing S3. The
same effect have

echo s2idle > /sys/power/mem_sleep

and

echo freeze > /sys/power/state

As for what is said in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend,
I've tried pm-tracing but wasn't able to understand enough information
from dmesg hash matches. As for debugging, all echos to
/sys/power/pm_test resume correctly but the last, echo none, which
causes the problem.

The issue does not seem graphics related as X wakes up correctly
(initially; it may crash later), and as the problem is identical even
with no X (telinit 3).

Hope all necessary debug information is automatically added, if not
please ask.

Ciao

Re: [Bug 1514474] Re: package tex-common 6.04... Safe legit patch?

2019-09-29 Thread enrico de bernart
Frankly long time passed and the only thing I can suppose that upgrading to
18.04 my account expired, hope this helps.

Pls note also that just couple of days ago I received a mail from Google
about the use of my account 65 days ago on Ubuntu 16 but is long time all
my computers are on 18 (I revoked access from that machine).

Regards
Enrico

[Bug 1838897] Re: LTS dist upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04 ok, then directly to 18.04 failure with dependency problems

2019-08-04 Thread Enrico Rosina
I learnt how to mount an usb-key and also to handle an us keyboard from
the command line, and so I can attach the apt-term.log.

Is there any chance to recover the installation for me? Or should I post
a question on the "Answers" forum? Thank you for helping.

[Bug 1838897] Re: LTS dist upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04 ok, then directly to 18.04 failure with dependency problems

2019-08-04 Thread Enrico Rosina
As I suspected it became impossible to boot on Ubuntu after this
installation bug. I tried all versions but I am unable to boot even with
recovery mode, 18.04 and 16.04 as well.

I write this comment using an old "Windows 7" (first login on this dual-
boot in years)! If you ask me to attach a log, you will have to teach me
how to make this miracle happen, because I'm unable to connect an usb-
key from the command line...

Should I submit a question instead of a bug, so I have a better chance
to get help? Thank you for any answer.

[Bug 1838897] [NEW] LTS dist upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04 ok, then directly to 18.04 failure with dependency problems

2019-08-04 Thread Enrico Rosina
Public bug reported:

Hello,

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
Release:18.04

I am not sure what the package name is for the update manager, so I
check the "I don't know" option, sorry for that. I try this one, just in
case:

apt-cache policy update-manager
update-manager:
  Installé : 1:18.04.11.10
  Candidat : 1:18.04.11.10
 Table de version :
 *** 1:18.04.11.10 500
500 http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-updates/main amd64
Packages
500 http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-updates/main i386
Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 1:18.04.11 500
500 http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages
500 http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main i386 Packages

I upgraded with the update manager (with the GUI) from Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS,

This was perfectly done, I rebooted with the new 16.04 version, and
tried several programs: mail, network, firefox, gedit, libreoffice...
everything was fine, so 10 minutes after, I launched the update manager
with the GUI again to Upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. I did this Without
having done any other update using the 16.04 LTS.

The packages were downloaded ok, but the installation failed with
multiple messages like this one (may not be accurate, I translate "on
the fly" from french). Sorry, I did not find any log to copy those
messages, and the files cannot be browsed from the gui anymore. I had to
search the files and edit them with "vi" (gedit was no more usable), and
found nothing useful. So here is(are) the message(s):

   "Impossible to install «systemd»
The upgrade will continue, but the package «systemd» may not run.
Please do report this as a bug."

Then:
"installed systemd package post-installation script subprocess returned
error exit status 1".

Then I had more than 20 packages ending to similar error messages:
"dependency problems - leaving unconfigured"

Among those broken packages:
   systemd-sysv, init,dbus-user-session, policykit-1, aptdaemon, synaptic,
gnome-settings-daemon,
   mutter, gnome-shell, policykit-1-gnome, update-manager, update-notifier,
ubuntu-system-service,
   network-manager, netwirk-manager-pptp, network-manager-gnome... etc.
With libpam-systemd package there was an error number displayed with the
message:
66.8035: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured.

I am filing this bug before I reboot, I don't even know if I will be
able to restart a previous Ubuntu version.

Please tell me if I can help adding commands outputs or attaching log files,
and where I am supposed to find those logs... I saw other similar bugs or this
question: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/670525
... but nothing was close enough to my problem, so here I am.

Thank you for your understanding and hints...
Enrico.

[Bug 1690933] Re: isc-dhcp-server/dhcpd listens on 0.0.0.0:67/UDP no matter which interfaces is specified

2018-10-23 Thread Enrico De Fent
In Ubuntu 18.04.1 it appears that the environment initialization file

  /etc/default/isc-dhcp-server

defines INTERFACESv4 and INTERFACESv6, but both the systemd unit files

  /lib/systemd/system/isc-dhcp-server.service
  /lib/systemd/system/isc-dhcp-server6.service

expand "INTERFACES".

P.S.: Sorry, I previously "updated" the bug description by mistakenly
committing the same description again, I did not alter it actually.

[Bug 1710346] Re: Drag & drop from the desktop freezes partially the PC

2017-10-22 Thread Enrico
Dear all,
I switched to 17.10 on Friday and I noticed the same exact problem.
This is not solved, because my Ubuntu version is fully updated.
when I drag and drop files from the desktop to an open nautilus window, the
mouse cursor gets stacked and the only solution to unblock the situation is to
restart the laptop.
Killing nautilus does not solve the problem, therefore it seems unlikely to me
that the bug is related to nautilus.

[Bug 1564470] Re: Unable to install NI-VISA nikal kernel module because of GPL-only symbol 'pgprot_writecombine'

2017-04-04 Thread Enrico Weigelt, metux ITS
It's neither a Ubuntu bug, nor a upstream one.

Instead it's entirely NI's fault: they're using an GPL-only symbol
(which IIRC always has been GPL-only!) in their proprietary kernel
driver. (the idea of binary-only kernel drivers alone is quite insane in
the first place).

The only serious fix is NI releasing their driver as GPL, or somebody
reverse-engineering it and writing a free driver.

Don't use that stuff in production (inherently dangerous), and dont
bother the kernel developers with that (there's a reason for the
tainted-flags).

[Bug 927636] Re: plymouthd crashed with SIGSEGV in script_obj_deref_direct()

2017-02-18 Thread enrico
I have to add the solution in my post #44 seems to work on my desktop,
but not on my laptop: it worked for a while but then the problem
appeared again. Actually, on laptop I had to update /etc/default/grub
adding "noplymouth" in GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT options... (which is
of course not a solution!)

[Bug 1665454] Re: System error due to bind9 librairies not "up to date"

2017-02-17 Thread Enrico Rosina
Hello Christian,

No problem at all with the status change.

I don't think that the bug bug 1401055 is similar to mine. I carefully
searched my log file but did not find any of the keywords that were
present in this bug report.

I did not find hints showing that an install which failed. I may be
wrong but the bug 1401055 says: "libbind9-90 (not installed)", and it
was not my problem. This library was installed, it was just a version
which was older that the one expected.

Anyway I will still make some searching, if I find something I will
report it.

Thank you for your concern, have a nice week-end.
Enrico

[Bug 1665454] [NEW] System error due to bind9 librairies not "up to date"

2017-02-16 Thread Enrico Rosina
Public bug reported:

Each time I logged on in Ubuntu 14.04 (trusty), a pop-up appeared with
the message "System error". The message appeared twice, a few seconds
after the beginning of the session. It appeared never a third time in
the same session.

I sometimes clicked on "cancel", or sometimes on "report the problem".
But the problem kept happening, After my acknowledgement of the message,
everything seemed to be ok, I could work normally in my session.

With the details of my reports, I could see this had something to do with those
elements:
(I may write them down wrong, because I did it manually, I was not able to
copy-paste them)

bind9-host
libbind9-90
libisc95
libisccc90
libisccfg90
liblwres90
libpam-systemd
libsystemd-daemon0, libsystemd-jouran0, libsystemd-login0,
libudev1
systemd-services
udev

So I went in synaptic, searched for libbind9-90, and discovered that
there was a little "!" icon on the left. I could right-clic on the
"select for update" menu, and following dependencies were automatically
selected:

bind9-host, dnsutils, libdns100, libisc95, libisccfg90, liblwres90

I clicked on "apply changes", and then the problem seems to be solved.

I don't think there are side-effects, but I don't know why those
libraries were to be changed, because my system is up to date (reminder:
it's only 14.04 trusty, though)

Hope this helps, thank you for your attention. I don't need to be helped
(my system is running OK), I'm just trying to help you. Of course I will
have a look if you need me to search further on my system settings.

Kind regards,
Enrico Rosina

[Bug 927636] Re: plymouthd crashed with SIGSEGV in script_obj_deref_direct()

2017-02-05 Thread enrico
I experienced the same issue, I tried to launch plymouth manually from
an X session:

~$ sudo ./plymouth start

the screen becomes black (with a message at the top about /dev/sda), it
is not possible to interact at all. CTRL-F2 to switch to a console, ps
-ef does not show any plymouth service, however and I tried to stop it:

~$ sudo ./plymouth stop

a message confirmed it has been successfully stopped (!), however the
graphical session remains freezed.

~$ reboot

and since then the problem is gone.

They only use their own bug tracker.

Anyway, this bug has already been reported on their bug tracker and they
are working on it (but with low priority).

[Bug 1607919] [NEW] Nautilus complete freeze after 7zip extraction

2016-07-29 Thread Enrico
Public bug reported:

I've downloaded a .7z file containing an ISO.
I've Right clicked on the archive -> Extract here
I did not have p7zip installed so Ubuntu asked me to install p7zip. I accepted.

After the package manager finished the installation process, the 7zip

can use all the other software but I cannot launch nautilus and my

[Bug 1591725] [NEW] Wifi network never enabled

2016-06-12 Thread Enrico
Public bug reported:

The wifi network worked fine while installing yakkety 16.10 from the 10
June's daily ISO. Now it doesn't work at all. The "enable Wifi" option
in the indicator (top bar) has not the tick, but if I tick that option
the wifi cards on the list still show "Wifi is not enabled"

I've attached the apt-get's history.log file. I can do a screenshot if
needed.

I think that could be a network-manager bug, but I'm not sure

Sometimes Synapse crash also using this workaround, but I need to investigate

[Bug 1539634] Re: network-manager crashes when using libnl-3-200 3.2.21-1ubuntu1

2016-05-23 Thread Enrico Rosina
Hello,

Thanks for the bug fix. Problem solved for me too, on Ubuntu 14.04.4
LTS.

After several days of manual "advanced" reboot, the problem disappeared
simply upgrading with this command:

sudo apt-get install network-manager

... which upgraded to this version:

network-manager 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3

Nice job, thank you again

[Bug 1574818] [NEW] Selected file from search is not actually selected

2016-04-25 Thread Enrico
Public bug reported:

I was looking for useless files in a folder and I've used the File's
search feature. It works fine, but when I search something (e.g. .SVG
files) the first file on the list appears selected, but it isn't!

I've found this bug because I tried to select all the files clicking on
the last one while holding SHIFT, but File selected only the item I've
clicked on. I can't explain the problem very well, so I've recorded a
video about this problem (see the attached file).

You can see that the first file looks selected (it's in orange), but
when I click on another file holding SHIFT, the selection goes only on
the file I've clicked and not on all files from the first one and the
one I've clicked on.

[Bug 1558991] [NEW] Wrong sbin/service path in snmpd monit file

2016-03-19 Thread Enrico Polesel
Public bug reported:

Dear maintainer,

In the file /etc/monit/monitrc.d/snmpd the start and stop commands for snmp are:
start program = "/sbin/service snmpd start"
stop program = "/sbin/service snmpd stop"

but apparently `service` has been moved in `/usr/sbin/`, so the right commands
should be
start program = "/usr/sbin/service snmpd start"
stop program = "/usr/sbin/service snmpd stop"

Thank you for your time.

Regards,
Enrico

I don't know if VirtualBox has installed any critical package for gnome-

[Bug 1529225] Re: Unable to select added languages

2015-12-25 Thread Enrico
I have this problem.

I 've installed Ubuntu in English by mistake. I want to switch to
Italian but I can't do that because of this bug.

You can find attached to this comment a short video that shows the
problem. The same behaviour occurs with more languages installed.

Hi, I have reinstalled English and now it works. It's strange because
before I tried to remove English, the same behaviour didn't work. So
I've tried to remove English and now I've installed it again.

Anyway, as English MUST be present for this control to work why can we
remove it? It would be better if gnome-language-selector does not allow
to remove English.

[Bug 995473] Re: no way to use dconf-editor with keyboard only

2015-12-22 Thread Enrico Bermudez
I really need to be able to navigate through dconf editor with just a keyboard!
 Any progress on this?
My issue is that everytime I try to upgrade to kernel 4.x, my touchpad stops
working properly. I can move the mouse, but can't click on anything. So after
several failed fixes, I'm trying to use dconf editor to ensure that the
touchpad is properly configured -- but I can't use dconf editor if I can't even
navigate thru the menus without my touchpad! (By the way, I'm on the road
right now, so I don't have access to any other mouse.)

[Bug 1481407] [NEW] Cannot use shortcuts with Meta (aka Super) key

2015-08-04 Thread Enrico
Public bug reported:

In Kubuntu 15.04, both with and without the backports ppa, one cannot
successfully configure shortcuts involving the Meta key. So if one sets
Meta+q as the quit shortcut in the kcm, applications don't react and print
the q (I've tested konsole, kate, konversation and a few other).
This is reported as bug #1449816, with regard to konsole, but in fact applies
to other applications in KDE (I haven't tested all of them).

This cannot be reproduced in Fedora 22, openSuse Tumbleweed or Kubuntu 15.10.
I post this bug under kubuntu-meta (out of ignorance, mostly).

[Bug 1473622] [NEW] File extension is always AIFF when exporting an audio track in every format

2015-07-11 Thread Enrico
Public bug reported:

I'm using Audacity 2.0.6 on Xubuntu 15.10, but I got the same problem on
other ubuntu versions.

When I want to export an audio track, e.g. in MP3, the file extension in
the Name bar is always AIFF. I have to change it manually. If I cange
the filetype from the menu, the file extension remains AIFF.

This is not an important bug, but the file extension should change when
changing file type.

Public bug reported:

Since when I upgraded from kernel linux-image-extra-3.19.0-16, alx module
stopped working correctly.
a ping to a reachable host results in ~50% packet loss.
Dmesg reports this:

[Bug 1445745] Re: Not able to write a review (Unable to show 'none')

2015-06-19 Thread Enrico
Hello Brian. Thanks for your work.

I can't find the new software-center update in the purposed repository.
I already have the version 13.10 but I didn't update it via the purposed
repository because it was not enabled on my PC. How is it possible?

With the version 13.10, when I press the Write a review button a new
window opens but it shows a non-stop Login... (Accesso,,, in
italian)... Anyway, this could be a problem related to my PC and not a
software-center bug

[Bug 1455637] [NEW] ALSA lib pcm.c:7843:(snd_pcm_recover) underrun occurred

2015-05-15 Thread Enrico
Public bug reported:

When I edit some MP3 on Xubuntu, sometimes this bug occurs. I now have
15.10 (testing), but also with 15.04 this bug happens.

When I press PLAY, i hear a lot of noise. If I play stop, Audacity
freezes and sometimes crashes. If i don't press Stop, i hear the noise
for some seconds and then i hear the MP3 correctly, but if i stop it and
PLAY it again, i hear the noise.

The terminal returns

---ALSA lib pcm.c:7843:(snd_pcm_recover) underrun occurred

THOUSANDS of times, and then (if audacity crashes and doesn't only freeze):
