[Bug 1876967] [NEW] Youtube hangs Firefox with HDMI audio enabled
Public bug reported: If I have my output device set to "HDMI / DisplayPort - Built-in Audio", playing a Youtube video on Firefox causes it to hang. It initially loads fine, but nothing happens. The UI is still responsive at this point, and I can scroll the page, switch tabs, etc. However, if I then try to open a new tab or navigate to a new page, Firefox hangs completely and I have to kill it. If I switch the audio device back to internal speakers, everything works fine. This only started happening some time in the last week. Previously, I observed a different behaviour, where Youtube videos simply wouldn't play audio on HDMI unless I already had an audio stream initiated from another app. It never hung the browser, though. I first observed this on Firefox 76 beta, then 77, and now I have confirmed it on the Ubuntu package of Firefox 75, all with a new, clean profile. Also, I *can* play audio on other sites like Pandora over HDMI. This seems to be YouTube specific somehow. [Bug 1848126] [NEW] [snap] No access to user config directory for separate app IDs
Public bug reported: After the forced upgrade to the snap version of Chromium, all of my Chrome app shortcuts stopped working. I have several apps which I launch like this: chromium-browser --user-data-dir=/home/hackel/.config/appname --profile-directory=Default --app-id=abcdjdachboclehgmhnocadmlnkmehhi They are now all broken. So I can move my user-data-dir into ~/snap/chromium/current/.config and that works fine, but what do I do about the custom icons? These were created in e.g. ~/.local/share/icons/hicolor/*/apps/chrome-abcdjdachboclehgmhnocadmlnkmehhi-Default.png for all 5 different icon sizes. But the corresponding snap icon directories are all broken symlinks to /snap/chromium/881/data-dir/icons/hicolor/64x64. (There actual directory structure ends with an empty icons directory.) A snap running as a user wouldn't be able to write to those directories anyway, right? Or does snapd have some mechanism to allow that? If I try to use the Create Shortcut function in Chromium, I get this error 14 times: LaunchProcess: failed to execvp: xdg-desktop-menu It doesn't actually create any .desktop or icons that I can find anywhere on the filesystem. [Bug 1848080] [NEW] [snap] missing --temp-profile option
Public bug reported: I've just upgraded to Eoan, and was forced to install the Chromium snap package. Unfortunately it appears that the new launcher script (I'm assuming it's the one in /snap/chromium/current/bin/chromium.launcher) no longer contains the --temp-profile option. This was my *primary* use of this browser. It was extremely convenient for quickly firing up a new, clean profile every time for web development, privacy, etc. Incidentally, using --temp-profile, Chromium opened almost instantaneously. Now with this snap package, chromium takes a good 10-15 seconds to open. That is just ridiculous. Obviously I can write a script to do this myself, but that's not the point. [Bug 1847679] [NEW] Xorg crash during upgrade to 19.10
Public bug reported: This is probably the wrong package to report this against, but I just wanted to collect all the logs. Please reassign as appropriate. Today I initiated an upgrade from 19.04 to 19.10 using `update-manager -cd`. The upgrade started fine, but about halfway through installing packages, Xorg crashed and took me back to the terminal. Eventually, X restarted and I was shown an error message that the system was in an unrecoverable state (I don't recall the exact wordring, I had never seen such a message before), with a button to exit. From the console, I could see that dpkg was actually still running, waiting for user input regarding a conffile change. I killed the process, then manually ran `dpkg --configure --pending` and everything seemed to finish fine. I have no idea if there is any post-upgrade clean-up that needs to be done on my system at this point. [Bug 1826460] [NEW] Every snap gives "create user data directory" after upgrade to 19.04
Public bug reported: Since I upgraded to Ubuntu 19.04 and snapd 2.38+19.04, whenever I run any snap command, I get the following warning: cmd_run.go:876: WARNING: cannot create user data directory: failed to verify SELinux context of /home/hackel/snap: exec: "matchpathcon": executable file not found in $PATH I tried installing selinux-utils which contains the matchpathcon command, but most of the error remains: cmd_run.go:876: WARNING: cannot create user data directory: failed to verify SELinux context of /home/hackel/snap: exit status 1 I first noticed this when running ripgrep, but it happens with every snap I have installed: node, vlc, slack, even gnome-characters. As far as I can tell, it is not affecting functionality. The commands still run fine. Oddly, I do not even have golang-github-snapcore-snapd-dev installed, which contains cmd_run.go. I assume this must be baked into the core snap or something. ** Affects: snapd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1826460 Title: Every snap gives "create user data directory" after upgrade to 19.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/snapd/+bug/1826460/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1825593] [NEW] Display: 100% scale not remembered when X11 Fractional Scaling is enabled
Public bug reported: After upgrading to 19.04, I enabled the experimental 'x11-randr- fractional-scaling' setting. If I set scaling to 125, 150, or 200%, the setting is remembered and used the next time I log in. If I set scaling to 100%, however, the next time I log in the scaling switches back to 200% automatically. I only want to use fractional scaling for external monitors. Background: This is on a Dell XPS 9360 with a 1920x1080 ~168 DPI screen. Pretty standard configuration. I have my DisplaySize set to 294x165 in Xorg.conf, Xft.dpi=168, GTK font scaling factor 1.0. I have been unable to find an appropriate combination of settings where 168 DPI is respected for accurate font rendering, while at the same time not scaling up the rest of the UI to unusable proportions. Fractional scaling seems to be the only way to adjust some Gnome UI elements. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1825593 Title: Display: 100% scale not remembered when X11 Fractional Scaling is enabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1825593/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The kernel works just fine with secureboot enabled. It is required due to the extreme instability of the stock kernel on my XPS 13. This appears to be related to #1786491. But why prevent the installation if it works just fine? I also DO have the regular signed images (linux-generic and linux-oem) installed, so just because I have one unsigned kernel installed, it is borking up my whole system. In the middle of a stable release cycle, which seems insane to me. I understand wanting to prevent someone from winding up with an unbootable system, but this patch is going far beyond that. Public bug reported: Running 18.04, systemd 237-3ubuntu10, and all of my available disk space on /var (4.3G) just got eaten up by systemd-journald. /etc/systemd/journald.conf has all the default values (everything commented out). [Bug 1607067] Re: Add a dotfiles / hidden files interface
This bug is nearly 2 years and and severely limiting the usability of snap packages. Since I know Canonical is pushing snaps crazy hard, I would have expected some movement on this sooner. This needs to be a priority. You can't expect average desktop users to know how to either install a snap in devmode, or symlink their dotfiles from the snap app's directory. For the rest of us, this is just tedious and unnecessary. [Bug 1759621] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast() from st_label_set_text() from ffi_call_unix64()
Sadly this is still happening to me on 18.04 as well. Every single time I resume my machine from suspend. And it's not just that gnome-shell crashes, but I have to sit for a good 2-3 minutes while apport does its thing, while the machine is completely frozen from a UI perspective. This is such a huge usability issue! I still suspect it is being caused by some particular combination of gnome-shell extensions that are installed. I've tried (unsuccessfully) to pin down which one it is, but it never seems to work, leading me to believe it must be a combination. I've attached my journalctl output, captured from the moment I resumed my machine. Really hope we can get to the bottom of this! ** Attachment added: "journalctl-gnome-shell.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1759621/+attachment/5136522/+files/journalctl-gnome-shell.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1759621 Title: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast() from st_label_set_text() from ffi_call_unix64() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1759621/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1766775] [NEW] Notifications do not disappear
Public bug reported: I frequently have notifications that do not disappear after being shown. This is particularly prevalent with power management notifications. Most of the time when I wake my computer from suspend, I see the following notification at the top: "Automatic suspend - Computer will suspend very soon because of inactivity." that never goes away. Presumably, this was shown before my computer went to sleep, and should have disappeared but didn't. I have to either click on the notification, or click on the time to open the notification menu to get it to disappear. Occasionally, the same behaviour occurs with other, random notifications. This is a long-standing issue for me, that I'm just now getting around to reporting. I'm on 17.10, gnome-shell 3.26.2-0ubuntu0.1, and running the gnome-session (not Ubuntu). [Bug 1731550] [NEW] module-switch-on-connect switches to virtual devices
Public bug reported: The module-switch-on-connect module that has been enabled by default in Artful is causing virtual devices added by PulseEffects (https://github.com/wwmm/pulseeffects) to be activated and set to the default/failsafe device. This also changes which device the system volume control changes. It should only automatically switch when a physical audio device is plugged in. If there is no way to detect this automatically, then I would say this should not be the default configuration, or it should be added as an optional preference. I just want to point out that when following the apport bug reporting process, it initially pulls up a list of existing bugs by searching for the subject "gnome-shell crashed with signal 5 in g_malloc0()", and this bug does not show up in that list. In fact, the most recent bug in that list is from 2012. As a result, people (or at least me, until now) aren't finding this to report issues as a duplicate, and they are commenting on these really old, unrelated bug reports. [Bug 1637271] [NEW] Desktop background is black after resume from suspend
Public bug reported: Running a standard 16.10 system with Unity 7, Intel i965 graphics, and a secondary external display. This behaviour has been observed under 16.04 and possibly earlier releases as well. Often (though frustratingly not always), when I resume from suspend, my desktop background will be solid black, my wallpaper is not visible. This is *not* the background colour I have selected in the Appearance settings. The system is fully usable when this occurs: cursor, icons, windows, etc. all render fine. If I change any Appearance setting (zoom/tile type, colour, image), it seems to refresh and my wallpaper is restored. Sometimes this only happens on my secondary display, and the wallpaper is still visible on my primary display. Please move this bug as appropriate, I wasn't quite sure what to report this against. [Bug 1636646] [NEW] Scrollbar makes it impossible to position cursor at end of line
Public bug reported: A scrollbar has been added to the text-input section of gnome- calculator. This makes one of my most frequently used operations impossible: clicking to position the cursor at the end of the (right- aligned) input line, in order to enter additional operations after a calculation. The scrollbar expands as soon as the mouse cursor approaches the end of line, forcing you to click one digit to the left of the end, manually move to the right with the arrow keys, and then continue to paste or enter more operations. Please fix this by adding a right-hand margin to the input field the width of the hover scrollbar. ** Affects: gnome-calculator (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1636646 Title: Scrollbar makes it impossible to position cursor at end of line To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-calculator/+bug/1636646/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1582823] Re: Text not rendering correctly after resume from suspend
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected xenial ** Description changed: Since upgrading to 16.04, I've been experiencing frequent difficulties resuming from suspend, causing text not to be displayed at all, or wrong characters to be displayed. Please see the attached screenshots. I don't know what part of the system this lies in. It seems to affect all gtk apps at least. Chromium renders just fine when this happens, other than the titlebar. Similarly, Cool Retro Term renders correctly, which obviously doesn't use gtk, while Gnome Terminal and Guake do not.
