k9copy output broken in Kubuntu 9.10 i386 and amd_64

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: k9copy
When copying a disc, the output in VIDEO_TS/... or IMAGE.iso is broken.
I have tried this on i386 and amd_64. The program seems to make a
VIDEO_TS.VOB that is zero (0 kb) size. It is empty. K9copy makes the
IMAGE.iso file just fine. But it won't pl
Okay, I have gone back to Samba version 3.2.5 source and compiled on
amd64. This version works fine on Kubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala). No memory
leaks after a 24 hour heavy load test.

When logging into XP guest on vmware 7.0 an smb (3.4.0) process spawns
on the x86_64 Karmic Koala. This process begins to require more and more
of the 4gb memory available. I currently must use vmware file sharing
and shut down Samba to keep from crashing the Linux system.

Jamie,
Here is an update:
I noticed that there is a new Samba package in the repository. I
installed it per this dpkg.log entry:

Jamie,
There is not problem on the Ubuntu 8.10 server with Samba
3.2.3-1Ubuntu... and network mounted shares. However, that system is not
using shares accessed by Vmware 6.5.1 and Windows XP. In my opinion
there is still a problem with Samba 3.2.3-1Ubuntu... in the workstation

Jamie,
Here is the dpkg.log entry when I installed/upgraded to that version. It
did not fix the problem (and I must say I have spent a lot of time
finding this memory leak and then the solution). It was with much
sadness of heart that I left the "Ubuntu way" for a "tar-ball-of-old":
