[Bug 1762314] [NEW] Sound output too low

2018-04-09 Thread jatin sachdeva
Public bug reported:

Sound output on lenovo p51s is too low. No option to go above 100% in volume
settings. Download pulse audio volume control to raise application and output
volume to 153%, which helps to some extent, but then leads to distortion.
Was running windows 10 on same system and audio was loud enough!
Also after this morning
s update, the volume keys no longer work, even after re-mapping them in
shortcuts.3

[Bug 1209031] Re: no way to add lpd/lpr printers on saucy

2014-04-07 Thread jatin sachdeva
Yes works with system-config-printer. But the averge user will not go to
terminal and try this. They will goto the default printers widget that
shows up in search. Perhaps provide an 'advanced' option which cross-
launches system-config-printer from the default printers widget?

[Bug 1302309] [NEW] X won't start after today's update on ubuntu 14.04

2014-04-03 Thread jatin sachdeva
Public bug reported:

I'm using a Lenovo x230 laptop and have been on ubuntu 14.04 alpha/beta
for last few months. Everything was fine with daily updates, till I
updated today and now X won't start up. The screen just hangs on the
ubuntu logo screen and sometimes gives a message waiting for network
configuration or waiting for 60 more secs for network configuration.
However it goes nowhere and does not give me a login screen. If I change
display manager to lightdm, I get a login screen but nothing happens
post login - just the wallpaper n mouse pointer. I've checked and I do
have network connectivity from the terminal (ctrl-alt-f1). I've also
tried uninstalling and reinstalling xserver-xorg and then doing a dpkg-
reconfigure xserver-xorg but didn't help. Booting in fail safe graphics
also doesn't bring up X. Seems like an upgrade issue or bug. Let me know
if logs are needed.

still have this issue on the latest raring 13.04 beta image. This causes
a lot of confusion during installation. Its silly if in the middle of an
install one has to search the internet to try and figure this out! The

distro or just stick to windows!

[Bug 556600] [NEW] Evolution (on lucid) window does not load

2010-04-06 Thread jatin sachdeva
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have evolution running on lucid beta 1 (configured with an exchange
account) and for some reason the main windows does not load. Sometimes
it loads up after few minutes or hours! The process is running fine, but
no main window.

I have re-installed evolution completely to no avail and evolution
--debug gives me a blank file. I am guessing this is some sort of
windowing error, but I seriously do not know where to start collecting
info. I am not an expert, so please do let me know how to gather any
further info to fix this.

[Bug 292042] Re: Logitech Bluetooth keyboards (Mediaboard Di Novo) not working on Intrepid

2010-03-06 Thread jatin sachdeva
running ubuntu karmic on hp mini 311 and can't make the logitech mediaboard pro
to work.
Suprisingly the mediaboard worked fine with kubuntu karmic!! I am guessing
installing kdebluetooth on top of ubuntu is not an option!

also with the hidd --search, I am unable to connect (provided I reset
the logitech), however with 'hidd --connect mac-addy' I get a connection
timed out, which means I can't automate this process by putting it in
etc/rc.local

Any inputs would be great.

after boot and then it keeps happening at random times. This has started
only after I ran the system testing tools.

[Bug 450582] Re: ubuntu one does not connect

2009-10-21 Thread jatin sachdeva
brand new symptom today.

the usual behavior was when i clicked on the panel icon and selected connect,
it would do the cloud animation and immediately goto the exclamation mark
disconnected phase as evidenced in above screenshots.
The same would happen when I clicked connect from the ubuntu one folder.

However, today the client is doing the cloud animation thingie and trying to
connect continuously for over an 2 hours now - see attached screenshot

2009-10-18 Thread jatin sachdeva
Update - I am still living with a non-working uubuntu one. The client just sits
with an exclamation mark and does not make any attempts to connect. The local
ubuntu-one folder does not connect and sync.
I found an ubuntu one folder under /etc/xdg - this has some config files-
anything i can do there? to get this to reconnect.
Hope I don't need to do an OS re-install to get this function back.

i removed my machine from the ubuntu one web account - removied client,

[Bug 388522] Re: [karmic] Imported Google account (from Pidgin) not connecting

2009-10-14 Thread jatin sachdeva
I am facing this again with latest updates on kamric beta from last night. My
existing gtalk account stopped working. So I added a new one, but that still
did not work. I had to manually go into the gtalk account settings and change
the server to talk.google.com and things are now working.
If the standard google-talk drop down when adding a new account in empathy
can't take care of adding talk.google.com on the server section then why is it
there?

[Bug 449357] [NEW] Evolution Exchange 'Unable to retrieve message Lost connection to Evolution Exchange backend process' error

2009-10-12 Thread jatin sachdeva
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

After the latest updates, evolution exchange connectivity is completely broken.
I have added the account again several times, however each time I add it works
for few minutes and then while browsing folders, I get the error Unable to
retrieve message

Have also re-installed evolution and cleaned up the home ./evolution
folder, each time I add the new account.

From terminal this is the output

[Bug 443028] Re: evolution hangs when trying to open/save attachments in an email with 2 ppt attachments

2009-10-07 Thread jatin sachdeva
I think its related - i've had these freezes and its something to do
with the attachment area and a colored box being drawn there based on
the theme selected. Changing the theme does not prevent the errors but
just changes the message (clearlooks_style instead of murrine_style as
posted in logs above)- hope my explanation is of use

[Bug 443308] Re: unauthenticated software packages cannot be installed in ubuntu software center

2009-10-06 Thread jatin sachdeva
This is something which a regular non-power-user will encounter. Instead of
throwing up a traceback, I would suggest we have a neat message which indicates
to the user
1) the reason of failure and
2) suggests going to synaptic for installing the same (ofcourse with a warning
that this could be dangerous)

Although not related to this bug, encrypt was a standard option in
nautilus, however it has disappeared in karmic. This is the reasons I
tried to install seahorse-plugins and encountered this error. So any
user who was using encrypt file option in nautilus is potentially going
to encounter this issue.

2009-10-05 Thread jatin sachdeva
Hi Sebastien,

I will try and get the backtrace. Have not done that before as I am new to
linux world.
Steps to reproduce are easy - just run evolution from terminal and access the
attachments in an email and you will see errors similar to mine in terminal.
This is also dependent on the theme which is selected in ubuntu apperance prefs.

Here is the errors with human theme and then with the clear looks theme
- the draw_box errors.

[Bug 418935] Re: gnutls can't negotiate tls connection to webex connect (empathy vs pidgin regression)

2009-10-04 Thread jatin sachdeva
I have the same problem - it shows up 'network error' for my webex
connect account. This is on karmic beta where empathy is default IM
client. Things were working fine with pidgin.

[Bug 431812] Re: i915: black screen on boot

2009-10-03 Thread jatin sachdeva

All - I have the same problem on my ibm x61s thinkpad.
I've just upgraded from jaunty to karmic beta and now I can't get into my
system.
I tried adding the 'i915.modeset=0' option to the line that begins with kernel,
but no success.
No matter what I do, I always land on a blank screen with a blinking cursor.
Typing 'fsck -y /dev/sda1' followed by enter doesn't do anything and hdd light
does not blink.
Once I do a ctrl-alt-del the root prompt shows up and runs any commands I'd
typed on the blank screen.
The machine then reboots and I'm back to the same blinking cursor screen after
reboot.

Can someone point how I get back into the system and remove the forcefsck.
Hope there is a way to get back in.

[Bug 431812] Re: i915: black screen on boot

2009-10-03 Thread jatin sachdeva
I have tried multiple times changing the kernel line to end with i915.modeset=0
and nomodeset, however nothing works.I just get a blinking cursor on a black
screen as mentioned in my post above.
I am logged in via my jaunty live-cd. Are there any changes I can do to make
the system bootable again from my hdd.
Should I edit any entries in fstab to prevent the fsck? Or is there any other
boot options which I can add at the end of the kernel line to get things going.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks.

[Bug 431812] Re: i915: black screen on boot

2009-10-03 Thread jatin sachdeva
ok i tried a few things
when i get the blinking cursor on black screen (after grub screen), I can do a
ctrl-alt-del and get to the prompt and quickly do a init 3 and prevent system
reboot. After this I can do ctrl-atl-f2 and login.
I can also do a sudo dhclient eth0 and get an ip addy and get internet access.
However it seems the file system is mounted as ro.
This also explains the message on tty1 (after I press ctrl-alt-del) which says
cannot remove /forcefsck read-only file-system
Should I boot from jaunty livecd and add /fastboot to my partition. Will that
work?

[Bug 431812] Re: i915: black screen on boot

2009-10-03 Thread jatin sachdeva
I finally got into my system.
After grub, I get a blinking cursor on a black screen. I need to do a
ctrl-alt-del to get to a prompt, then quickly type init 3 to prevent reboot.
After this I need to remount the file system as rw and then do a sudo service
dbus start, followed by sudo service hal start, sudo service gdm start. This
gets me into the gui. This is where I have lots of serious issues reported by
apport. Not sure anymore if they are related to this issue or to dbus errors.
I also have a thread going here
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1281504
Thanks for any help.

[Bug 431899] [NEW] Opening Http Links from Evolution Calendar

2009-09-17 Thread jatin sachdeva
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I use Evolution 2.26.1 with the exchange plugin to connect to my emails,
contacts and calendar via OWA. This is on ubuntu jaunty 9.04.
The specific problem I am facing is that I can't directly click and open http
links from the calendar invites I have (mostly webex links). I can open links
directly from emails, however the same functionality is not available in
calendar events. This requires I copy the link and manually paste it in firefox.

I am new to evolution and am sorry if this is a simple checkbox
somewhere which i have missed.

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

[Bug 117713] Re: WD external drives need to be spun down, sdparm --command=stop doesn't work any more

2009-09-08 Thread jatin sachdeva
i have an update, i just realised my old seagate 400 gb external drive,
does not spin down. It does dissappear from nautilus, but does not power
down. As has always been the case (even with windows) it keeps spinning
for a 5-10 mins, before it decides to power down on its own.

No big deal, but just wanted to update that the script might now always
work on all external drives (maybe works only on newer drives)

[Bug 117713] Re: WD external drives need to be spun down, sdparm --command=stop doesn't work any more

2009-09-07 Thread jatin sachdeva
I see this issue with all my external hdds - a 4 yr old seagate 400gb, a
500gb seagate freeagent go, and 2 makes of the wd 1TB drives.

thanks to ssergeje, I am able to use the script on his link to
appropriately power down my external drives. Is there anyway to do this
with firewire - i have reverted to using usb on my drives till we get a
solution for firewire.

Anyone sees this incorporated as a permanent solution in ubuntu (karmic
maybe?)?
