There might be a way to fix this in software, without the need for a hardware
motherboard replacement.
So, my advice is be patient, and wait for the official fix.

I tried the nouveau drivers in Lucid. They fail to display anything at all, so
it not a valid alternative for my graphics card at the moment. It just returned
back to the text display saying there are problem with X.
Is it worth starting a new bug report for the nouveau driver?

The call trace does not appear immediately.
One has to wait 2 minutes after the display freezes before the call trace is
placed in the log.
