[Bug 1084225] Re: Ubuntu one hangs at getting information, please wait

2013-01-22 Thread JMS
So, how often are the servers down. I'm getting the exact same thing
now. Syncing the cloud to your computer... Getting information, please
wait...

Nothing ever happens.

Any advice? Thanks.

[Bug 1084225] Re: Ubuntu one hangs at getting information, please wait

2013-01-22 Thread JMS
Thanks. Found a work around by simply closing Ubuntu One and then restarting
it. On the restart it announce Syncing complete, and everything was as it
should be. Had I not quit I'm sure I'd still be watching it spin. If anyone
else has this problem I suggest they simply close One and restart it, just
might solve their problem.

[Bug 859064] Re: Unable to boot after installing 10.11 beta - vgchange needs to be run manually in initramfs shell

2011-10-28 Thread jms
After some studying it seems that grub2 is not responsible for this issue after
all, but the /init phase in initramfs (or something like that I guess). That is
because I can continue booting successfully after I run:
/sbin/vgchange -ay
in initramfs shell. I will change the question information in this respect.

So, the root cause seems to be that initramfs can't find root which is a
logical volume.

[Bug 859064] [NEW] Unable to boot after installing 10.11 beta - vgchange needs to be run manually in initramfs shell

2011-09-25 Thread jms
Public bug reported:

I have a laptop Dell Precision M4300 with one hd which is entirely
assigned as a physical volume for a volume group vg01. Root filesystem
is inside the volume group - this was not a problem with Natty (at least
I can't remember any issues). Anyway, I had a well functioning and
updated Natty environment (32-bit) installed as I started the upgrade
with update-manager -d using alternative image as advised.

The upgrade process completed without problems, but after that the
laptop did not boot. Desktop entered into the grub2's graphic mode (I
think) but thats all, nothing happened at least in one hour. I could not
access virtual terminals either (ctrl+alt+f1-f6).

I booted using the rescue mode and ensured that new versions of grub*-packages
are completely installed, and they were. Then I modified /etc/default/grub by
commenting out line:
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0
and uncommenting line:
GRUB_TERMINAL=console
After this it came out that boot process stops in initramfs prompt and after
some studying that the boot process can't find ROOT which is a
/dev/mapper/vg01-root. I managed get it to boot by manually entering
/sbin/vgchange -ay in initramfs prompt, but I have no idea about the root
cause...

So far I have tried all tips I have found (reinstalled grub*-packages,
copied grub-files from installation media etc) and finally I reinstalled
Oneiric by using option to format root, usr and var filesystems
(kept my personal data intact though) - still the same problem.

case with earlier version, mythtv-setup is functional also.

Command 'mythtv' still crashes like reported in first post, maybe it is
not intended to run directly?

I have this issue with (up_to_date) Jaunty Beta (32bit) and new
M3N78-VM. X session crashes sooner or later (~2-20min) when I have
desktop effects in use and start firefox. With desktop effects disabled
there has been no problem so far (36 hours).

When crash happens I can kill the X session with alt-sysrq-k.

Nvidia driver in use is 180.44-0ubuntu1.

[Bug 332416] [NEW] rootfs won't mount

2009-02-20 Thread jms
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 332270 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/332270

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

lsb_release -rd:
Description:Ubuntu jaunty (development branch)
Release:9.04

After udev was upgraded to 138-1 (or dmsetup to 2:1.02.27-4ubuntu4, I'm not
sure which one caused this) my jaunty didn't boot. Output to screen was
something like this (I wrote this down because I couldn't find it from log
files). This output was kept coming for hours:

/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1f.1/host0/target0:0:0/0:0:0:0/block/sda/sda
(15364)
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1f.1/host0/target0:0:0/0:0:0:0/block/sda/sda1
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1f.1/host0/target0:0:0/0:0:0:0/block/sda/sda2
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1f.1/host0/target0:0:0/0:0:0:0/block/sda/sda
(15363)

/dev/sda1 is rootfs and /dev/sda2 is lvm partition

I got this fixed by booting from Jaunty's daily cd (20 Feb 2009) into
the repair mode and then installing previous versions of udev (137-2)
and dmsetup (2:1.02.27-4ubuntu3) from cd.

[Bug 289982] Re: PS3: NetworkManager cannot connect to WPA/WPA2 wireless networks

2008-10-30 Thread jms
Have you tried to connect with wpasupplicant using ps3 driver? I couldn't
connect with linux-ports kernel 2.6.25-2 with wpa_supplicant option -Dps3,
error message was Unsupported driver 'ps3'.
I found this (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=463852)

The WEXT driver should work correctly with the PS3 Gelic wireless driver as of
2.6.27 kernel and wpa_supplicant 0.6.4, both of which ship with rawhide. The
ps3 wpa_supplicant driver is deprecated as it was used before the kernel had
WEXT support for IW_ENC_CAPA_4WAY_HANDSHAKE. Please let me know if the WEXT
driver doesn't work by reopening this bug, and then we'll try to pin down where
the problem is.

So I tried next with kernel from Geoffs git (2.6.28-rc2) using option
-Dwext and ps3 connected succesfully to WPA enabled AP.

[Bug 267274] [NEW] mythtv-backend crash: memory corruption

2008-09-06 Thread jms
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mythtv

At least three crashes today; one crash occured while I was watching
videos using a ps3 as a client. For some reason no crash file is
generated to directory /var/crash so I try to report this manually.

[Bug 220524] Re: Only 86MB of RAM shown available on PS3 in Hardy

2008-09-02 Thread jms
As I wasn't able to find package linux-image-2.6.27-* from (intrepid)
repositories for powerpc I installed linux-source-2.6.27 and compiled kernel
for PS3 using 'make ps3_defconfig' and 'make-kpkg --initrd kernel_image
kernel_headers'.
Free reports 222028 KB of total memory.

[Bug 260687] Re: pam_smbpass.so segfaults

2008-08-24 Thread jms
Well, I noticed that samba (smbd) was also causing segfault
systematically. I backed up smb.conf, purged all samba packages,
installed them again as well as libpam-smbpass and restored smb.conf.
Now everything operates fine.

Dmesg output is attached, but as the problem got fixed by installing
stuff from scratch this is no longer reproducible. at least by me.

[Bug 194027] Re: After upgrade to version 0.21.0~fixes16174-0ubuntu1 mythtv-backend do not start

2008-03-07 Thread jms
Sorry about invalid bug.

The reason was that latest mysql couldn't handle /tmp which was a
symlink to /dev/shm. Until now it was just fine. But anyway, this had
nothing to do with mythtv...

[Bug 194980] Re: [PS3] Hardy daily build fails to boot: Squashfs cannot mount

2008-02-29 Thread jms
ps3 daily build 29-Feb-2008
-won't boot using otheros.bld in cd
-using Geoff's otheros.bld it still boots, module loading and ps3da1 mounting
problems are fixed
-initscripts fails to install due to unknown filesystem spufs, I managed to
skip this by editing initscripts.postinst script
-installer can't find installable kernel packages
-somehow every part of locale generation takes about 18 mins to complete and
there are quite a lot of them even if I choose just language English

[Bug 132271] Re: [GUTSY] cpu freq scaling not working anymore

2007-10-08 Thread jms
Sorry but my previous post was an error. On my machine the cpu did not scale
simply
because the strigi-daemon was using lots of cpu. I removed it and everything is
now
in order.

[Bug 132271] Re: [GUTSY] cpu freq scaling not working anymore

2007-10-04 Thread jms
Same problem with a Dell D420 with
Linux top 2.6.22-12-generic #1 SMP Sun Sep 23 18:11:30 GMT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux
Strangely scaling works for a little while after reboot, then not.
