Hi David, It's looking good :-) I made the recommended changes and at first the result was the same. I had also to comment out read only = yes from the [print$] section - doing so allowed me to successfully set the printer name. My XP test box can now connect to the renamed printer. Thanks

Thanks David, I can confirm libpam-smbpass is already installed and services were restarted after making the change. The results are the same. Full system also rebooted for good measure. There seems to be something iffy with the permissions: The rpcclient output for enumprivs is identical for
