[Bug 1765189] [NEW] Partial User Interface freeze

2018-04-18 Thread Markus Haider
Public bug reported:

I have a Dell Precision 5520 and experience the following problem: After
a resume from suspend, I have problems with my keyboard and touchpad: At
the password screen everything is working fine, I can click on the
password field and enter my password. Then when the screen is unlocked,
I can move the mouse cursor, and clicks on the top menu, e.g. on the
network button or the shutdown button work perfectly, but a click on an
open window like a terminal or on firefox does not give focus to the
window and I cannot write into the terminal. Also, shortcuts like the
Windows key or Windows+tab key are not working. I can only solve this by
rebooting.

[Bug 1310316] Re: Text scaling factor changing unexpectedly

2014-07-10 Thread markus haider
I experience the same problem. I have a MAC with retina display and
therefore want to use a font size of 1.5 but after logging in again,
font size is 2.25 (1.5*1.5?).

I don't have this problem any more. It is possible that it was due to a
faulty VGA cable.

I found out, that this seems to be related to the SATA power management.
If I use powertop and enable "Enable SATA link power Managmenet for
host1", the errors stop.

[Bug 1140920] Re: Libre Office does not start when I click it

2013-03-17 Thread markus haider
I found out what the reason is: I was using Ubuntu with German language,
and the month names which contain Umlauts, like Jänner and März were
broken in the sense, that ls -l would write 'M' instead of 'Mär', and
the libreoffice script has the following section:

while [ -h "$sd_res" ] ; do
cd "`dirname "$sd_res"`"
sd_basename=`basename "$sd_res"`
sd_res=`ls -l "$sd_basename" | sed "s/.*$sd_basename -> //g"`

and the strange character in ls -l seems to break things. Switching to
english regional formats fixed this issue for me.

2013-03-17 Thread markus haider
I can confirm this. I downloaded the daily image today, and did todays
later updates. When I click on the libreoffice writer, calc or impress
icon nothing happens. When I try to type libreoffice in the terminal I
get

/usr/bin/libreoffice: 49: cd: can't cd to lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 34

[Bug 860333] [NEW] Mudita does not get registered in applications

2011-09-27 Thread markus haider
Public bug reported:

Mudita24 serves to adjust the volume in ICE1712 sound cards, and is the
successor of the envy24control. The program itself works fine, but one
has to start it via the command line. It would be nice, if it gets
registered as application in unity, so that one can find it through the
unity menu.

If it is started, an icon (questionmark) appears in the unity panel.
However, if one clicks on "remain in menue" (or similar, I'm not using
the english version), and closes mudita24, a click on the icon does not
start the application.

[Bug 860322] [NEW] [Oneiric] Skype Icon in Unity has problems

2011-09-27 Thread markus haider
Public bug reported:

I am using Ubuntu Oneiric Beta2 with the updates of 27th September. I
installed skype skype:i386 2.2.0.35-0oneiric2 via the software center.
If I start it, the icon appears in the unity panel. When I click on the
x (close) in the skype window, skype and the icon disappear (as
expected). However, when I restart skype, it tells me that another
instance of skype is already running.

Also, if I minimize it, a click on the unity skype icon does not
maximize skype only, if focus has been layed on some other window
before.

[Bug 178442] Re: Pulseaudio fails to initialize ICE1712 chipsets

2011-05-06 Thread markus haider
I don't have any problems with this bug anymore on Natty. So I can
confirm that this is fixed for me with alsa-lib - 1.0.24.1-0ubuntu4.

@ David Henningsson
Thank you for your tip with the ttable entries. I was not possible to make a
mapping through via-ice1712.conf (but perhaps I just did something wrong), but
changing /usr/share/alsa/cards/ICE1712.conf works to allow simultanuous output
on channels 1-4. Here the relevant section in
/usr/share/alsa/cards/ICE1712.conf, where I added the two lines you suggested:

ICE1712.pcm.front.0 {
@args [ CARD ]
@args.CARD {
type string
}
type asym
playback.pcm {
type route
ttable.0.0 1
ttable.1.1 1
ttable.0.2 1
ttable.1.3 1

Thanks a lot

[Bug 755343] [NEW] Rhythmbox crashes when pairing for DACP

2011-04-09 Thread markus haider
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Hi,
On my Natty beta 1, rhythmbox crashes, when I enter the ipod remote app and
want to add a itunes-library. This bug is already known to the developers:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=640021 and is already solved in the
development version.
The fix (see the diff at the bugzilla link) is very simple, just entering the
line
find_page.page = NULL;
in line 575 of rhythmbox/plugins/daap/rb-dacp-pairing-page.c
I tried the bugfix on the 13.3 sources and it works perfectly. Rhythmbox does
not crash anymore when pairing with the ipod and the control works perfectly.
It would be great if this fix could get into the release candidate, as some
people might still prefer rhythmbox to banshee, as they can control it via
their ipods/iphones.

[Bug 178442] Re: Pulseaudio fails to initialize ICE1712 chipsets

2011-04-08 Thread markus haider
I tested the packages in #164 on a fresh natty beta 1 install and I get
sound. However, I have one question: What would I have to do, if I want
to switch output to channels 3&4 (where I connected headphones). Is this
possible with the current bugfix? If not, where would I have to make the
changes?

In Ubuntu 10.10, I mad a mapping in via-ice1712.conf which looked like
this

[Mapping headphones]
description = headphones
device-strings = hw:%f,0
#channel-map = front-left,front-right,rear-left,rear-right,front-center,lfe,side
-left,side-right,aux0,aux1
channel-map = aux0,aux1,front-left,front-right,aux2,aux3,aux4,aux5,aux6,aux7
direction = output

[Bug 718100] Re: Add possibility to change output device

2011-03-01 Thread markus haider
Thanks for your feedback. Just to be sure that we are not talking about
different things, the sound menu is the thing which pops up when I click
on the speaker icon in the panel?

>This bug report is Incomplete, however, because it's not clear that it would
>involve any work being done in the sound menu. How do you >know that that
>would be the best way to present the feature?
I think the best place for this feature is the menu shown in post #1 because
that's the place, where I as a user would expect it to be.

>What alternatives did you consider?
Alternatives are the pulseaudio-mixer-applet and pavucontrol. They basically do
the job, but there are several reasons why I don't like them: pavucontrol has
problems with long strings like "ICE1712 [Envy24] PCI Multi-Channel I/O
Controller Analog Multi-Channel Main Output" because it adapts the window size
to the length of the string, which can cause the pavucontrol window to go over
the edge of the workspace which makes it very unfriendly to use. And as you
noticed yourself, the pulseaudio-mixer-applet is not the prettiest thing to.

But the main reason why I think this should be included in the normal
sound menu is, that it would have a nicer, native look and that users
don't have to install an extra application in order to use the
functionality which is already given in pulseaudio. So at the moment, if
I want to be able to control the output per application I have to use
e.g. pavucontrol but I still have the sound menu in the panel, which is
basically useless for what I want to do.

>That someone who just wants to change the volume would be subjected to
>pictures of circuit boards strongly suggests that this is not >the best way to
>present it! The next step is for someone to sketch out half a dozen possible
>interaction methods for the feature, listing >the benefits and disadvantages
>of each.
I completely agree. I also don't like the way it is presented in the
pulseaudio-mixer-applet. If you want, I can try to make some mock-ups.

>Separately, someone would need to devise a reliable way of generating
>human-readable names for streams. Displaying anything >remotely like "ICE1712
>[Envy24] PCI Multi-Channel I/O Controller Analog Multi-Channel Main Output" in
>any prominent place would be >crack.
I also agree completely. This is also not solved in pavucontrol or the
pulseaudio-mixer-applet. I don't know what the best way is to handle this. One
way could be, to have a tab in the sound-preferences, where it is possible to
specify a custom string, which will be displayed for that output device, but
perhaps other people have better ideas.

[Bug 718100] [NEW] Add possibility to change output device

2011-02-13 Thread markus haider
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-sound

Hi,

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10. I like the new sound indicator applet. However,
there is one thing missing for me: The possibility to change the output
device for a specific stream (e.g. different output devices for skype
and rythmbox, or changing rythmbox from speakers to headphones).
Therefore many users have to use pavucontrol or the pulseaudio-mixer-
applet. I suggest to list all sound streams in the sound indicator
applet, and to make a little icon for each stream, which allows to
change the output device.

In the enclosed images in the next two posts, you can see how this is
done in the pulseaudio-mixer-applet.

vanishes. Another strange thing is, that the color of the colorbar
labels gets changed.

[Bug 486734] Re: Misplaced elements when converting from svg to wmf

2009-11-22 Thread markus haider
I completely agree, the main problem is that openoffice does not support
svg, eps or pdf, and openoffice is the place where this should be fixed.
However, I don't see a solution there in the near future:

http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=49991 (opened 2005)
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=2497 (opened 2005)
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/SVG_Import_Filter

There actually is a svg import filter, however it doesn't seem to work
very well (see attached screenshot, where I imported my initial svg
file). As far as I know, it translates svg into odg, therefore I think
this filter will have problems for quite some time. I think the
inability to display svg or eps/pdf files is really a problem which
should be solved.

I also tried the pdf import filter from the open office extensions, but
it also doesn't display the graph right

[Bug 178442] Re: Pulseaudio fails to initialize ICE1712 chipsets

2009-11-01 Thread markus haider
However, I have a working solution:

I inserted the following two lines into /etc/pulse/default.pa

channels=10 channel_map=left,right,aux0,aux1,aux2,aux3,aux4,aux5,aux6,aux7

channels=12
channel_map=left,right,aux0,aux1,aux2,aux3,aux4,aux5,aux6,aux7,aux8,aux9

and uncommented the module-udev-detect section, but kept "load-module module

I am not sure if this bug is a duplicate, as you say #bug 178442 is a
long standing issue, but my soundcard worked perfectly under Jaunty, and
stopped working out of the box in Karmic.

Ok, I can also use my internal soundcard, if I don't uncomment the line

I would also be grateful if this could be fixed until 10.04 (or earlier)

[Bug 447092] [NEW] Pulseaudio does not recognize ICE1712 correctly

2009-10-09 Thread markus haider
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libao-pulse

I just installed Ubuntu Karmic Beta, and everything works fine except
for the following:

I have a M-Audio Delta 1010lt (ice1712) sound card, which worked fine
under jaunty. The card is recognized by pulseaudio, but not with the
correct inputs/outputs. In the Hardware tab in the audio settings I can
choose a profile for my ice1712 soundcard, but the only profiles
available are digital stereo output/input (ice958) and digital surround.
As it does not recognize the analog outputs and inputs, I cannot use the
soundcard to play music via my speakers.

Here the output of aplay -l:

[Bug 414430] [NEW] Ifrit should include the gadget extension

2009-08-16 Thread markus haider
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ifrit

I think the Ifrit package should include the Gadget extension
(http://sites.google.com/site/ifrithome/Home/download), as viewing
Gadget files is propably the main use scenario for many users, and
installing Ifrit with the Gadget extension from source can be quite
tricky (the vtk version has to be compiled with VTK_USE_64BIT_IDS)...

Best regards,

2008-02-05 Thread markus haider
I have the same problem with Logitech 046d:08d9

[ 52.934483] gspca: disagrees about version of symbol video_devdata
[   52.934488] gspca: Unknown symbol video_devdata
[ 52.934652] gspca: disagrees about version of symbol video_unregister_device
[   52.934654] gspca: Unknown symbol video_unregister_device
[ 52.934718] gspca: disagrees about version of symbol video_device_alloc
[   52.934720] gspca: Unknown symbol video_device_alloc
[ 52.934746] gspca: disagrees about version of symbol video_register_device
[   52.934748] gspca: Unknown symbol video_register_device
[ 52.934886] gspca: disagrees about version of symbol video_device_release
[   52.934889] gspca: Unknown symbol video_device_release

I run Ubuntu 7.10 64 bit, and I was quite sure that the webcam once
worked. After that I did a reinstall, and installed my dvb-t stick using
video4linux. As I was trying to connect my webcam, I got the above
errormessages.
