was careful to describe my suggestions merely as possible workarounds.
Having completely dumped Windows in favour of Ubuntu back in 2007, Unity

might offer you the familiar look-and-feel you require.:-
1. sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
This will install the beautiful-looking and Windows7-like KDE4

Natty boxes and it worked both times.
One just needs to remember to leave a terminal open because sometimes
dbus locks up so badly that one cannot actually launch a new
application.

trying for months to find a fix for this. I have several 64bit KDE
machines and they all do the same after a day or two - dbus snaffles
large amounts if CPU and the machine grinds to a halt.

I can also confirm that using the 275.09.04 drivers package from the
philip5 ppa resolved the various issues for me too. In fact it seems
to work remarkably well. No more nasty screen artefacts, no more random
crashes from gnome-terminal or gedit. Whilst I still maintain that

I'm sorry but I beg to differ. I think we CAN pin the blame fairly and squarely
on nVidia. This is a copy of the latest response I have received from nVidia's
customer care, following yet another a fairly strongly worded email from me
with regard to nVidia's total lack of activity
gnome-terminal is also affected, certainly on my systems. You have to
try harder to crash it, but it still crashes. Also there is the matter
of the strange on-screen artefacts.

Switching off the desktop resolves the issue of the desktop freezing.

Further to my last (and I say this in a particularly shame-faced manner)
- my problem with the camera stopping working after the upgrade to
Natty, actually had *nothing* to do with Ubuntu.
Seems that during the upgrade, the camera became switched off! Having
gone all around the proverbial houses,
2011-04-28 Natty was officially released today. However, Truecrypt is
STILL missing its menus in Natty.

WxWidgets apps don't have menus
Further to my last post, I have been trying workarounds to this problem.
Truecrypt is very important for us and not being able to access the
menus makes it virtually useless to us. My observations:-
export UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0 - does NOT work for Truecrypt.
However, un-installing appmenu-gtk -
BisonCam working great until I upgraded to Natty Narwhal - the latest
Ubuntu 11.04, c/w kernel version 2.6.38-8-generic.
Now its broken completely. Doesn't even appear in dmesg output at all.
Almost as if the firmware is not loading.
Anyone else having the same difficulty with Natty?
