[Bug 1241589] Re: ubuntu 13.10 unable to boot on live usb (busy box - initramfs)
so... the stable Ubuntu release cannot be installed on systems with more than one hard drive, or hard drives formatted with btrfs (in this case both are true). someone could probably safely decide may be important for modern systems... sure, tear your (notebook factor) hardware apart (including the ones needed to install to), maybe use a single MBR partition to install Ubuntu... or maybe just use a distribution with a bootable installer instead. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1241589 Title: ubuntu 13.10 unable to boot on live usb (busy box - initramfs) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1241589/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1203348] Re: update-grub takes ages with Fedora installed alongside Ubuntu
Looks like dependencies on grub are mostly okay at this point, ran apt- get remove grub* without issues, have to explicitly reinstall efibootmgr afterwards though. haven't tested, but might be the mount state of drives with other OS. In both 12.04 and other distros, there are several differences in grub detection based on how drives are mounted when grub-update runs. if possible trying to have other drives mounted somewhere under / when grub updates *might* speed things up and give the fans break. next time i'm in that situation i'll test. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1203348 Title: update-grub takes ages with Fedora installed alongside Ubuntu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1203348/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 590406] Re: OO.org writer freezes in save dialog (KDE)
Possibly needs a new bug report, but: 64bit Kubuntu 10.04, latest openoffice.org from standard repositories (openoffice.org openoffice.org-base sun-java6 -... installed). After a few days (and probably a few standard updates) suddenly unable to launch openoffice in any form (writer, spread). Program would launch, flash up briefly, then quit out. Launching via terminal showed no additional output during this process. After testing various combinations of java (openjdk vs. sun-java6) and various openoffice.org packages as in recent bug reports, still same result. Finally removed openoffice.org-kde and now works fine (although of course looks like a gtk app in amongst the KDE4 goodness). These are standard repos (in fact a standard openoffice.org install/update as provided by default from kubuntu 10.04) and the result is a non-functional openoffice, that's a little worrying for those users whose main utility is an office suite... -- OO.org writer freezes in save dialog (KDE) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/590406 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@sachin best response i can give you is, unfortunately, that there are serious issues with 9.10 karmic in some configurations. you can add your own xorg.conf in karmic to get things working (pretty much just as explained above), but for me at least there are still constant crashes and calibration issues at boot, after suspend, etc... i should point out that these various issues may not in fact be related to this bug at all though. -- Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in DeleteInputDeviceRequest() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/358643 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

HP TC1100 and ZV5300 (nvidia drivers enabled) both consistently getting this error on suspend and boot. In both cases (though more consistently on the TC1100) the system hard freezes every so often. This is AFTER two full clean karmic installs on both machines from release ISOs and all repository updates. Final beta and RC both had this same issue. [Bug 358643] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in DeleteInputDeviceRequest()
@ christof: like andreas, i found that restarting the X server fixes this. Also, the problem occurs mainly if you suspend with the screen rotated. if the screen is at 0° rotation, suspend/resume usually works normally. @ andreas: i can confirm the situation you experienced, but not in Jaunty. ( i had the same normal rotation with 1/3 black area in intrepid). i'm inclined to believe this is a problem with setup (drivers/xorg.conf/xserver-input) etc... On a slightly separate note, I seem to have found an almost identical crash to this bug with a non Wacom tablet, same timing, same X server crash, same xorg.conf influence: Can anyone point me in the right direction to get Timo's package under the Arm port, feels like that might solve it? -- Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in DeleteInputDeviceRequest() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/358643 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 358643] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in DeleteInputDeviceRequest()
ujean, two points, 1. wacom.so portion is not really necessary according to Chris (default version 0.8.2.2 instead of self compiled 0.8.3.2) but seems to work fine for us both, so no issue. others may want to skip the whole driver step since it involves compiling, errors, etc... 2. i referred to you might want to pin timo's package until the official versions are corrected. to do this, edit the file /etc/apt/preferences: sudo vi /etc/apt/preferences to look like this: Package: xserver-xorg-core Pin: version 2:1.6.0-0ubuntu11.1 Pin-Priority: 1000 this will lock the package as timo's version and adept will stop bothering you. do remember to keep track of any official updates that will include timo's changes in the future. -- Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in DeleteInputDeviceRequest() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/358643 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 358643] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in DeleteInputDeviceRequest()
ujean: the following is simpler than the method i mentioned above (no need to build anything, as mentioned by chris in his post): 1. purge/reinstall wacom-tools: sudo apt-get purge wacom-tools xserver-xorg-input-wacom sudo apt-get install wacom-tools xserver-xorg-input-wacom 2. download timo's xorg-core: http://ppa.launchpad.net/tjaalton/ppa/ubuntu/pool/main/x/xorg-server /xserver-xorg-core_1.6.0-0ubuntu11.1_i386.deb to your home folder and install: sudo dpkg -i xserver-xorg-core_1.6.0-0ubuntu11.1_i386.deb use my xorg.conf provided above. after restart everything should be working almost perfectly, you might want to pin timo's package until the official versions are corrected. i attached a desktop/menu entry above for the rotate, but forgot the script to go with it, here it is too: ** Attachment added: a simple rotate script using xsetwacom xrandr (nvidia driver) http://launchpadlibrarian.net/26109253/rotate.sh -- Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in DeleteInputDeviceRequest() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/358643 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 364996] Re: x server crash (wacom on hp tc1100)
nv driver is same, problem seems more X or wacom related maybe ** Summary changed: - x server crash (nvidia + wacom on hp tc1100) + x server crash (wacom on hp tc1100) ** Description changed: fresh jaunty rc kubuntu install (+ updates) + nvidia 96 from jockey + wacom-tools + cellwriter (no other packages installed): when cellwriter is launched from the k menu, x server restarts to the kdm login screen. (reproduced more than 5 times, same procedure). same x server crash to kdm login at various times using tablet buttons or stylus. after further testing, problem seems related to x, configuration of xorg.conf yielded varying results, final issue seems to be: 1. if the commented lines in attached xorg.conf are both uncommented, behavior as described above. stylus button is right click and rotation via xsetwacom works. 2. if isdv4 line only is uncommented, everything works fine but stylus button does nothing and xsetwacom (for rotation) does not find a device. 3. if /dev/ttyS0 line only is uncommented xserver blanks upon x restart and all input is locked (have to hard reset). 4. if /dev/ttyS0 line only is uncommented, and /dev/input/wacom substituted, stylus is completely unresponsive. + + further testing reveals: + + 1. problem does not seem only related to the nvidia driver, nv driver behaves the same when cellwriter is launched (or randomly during stylus input), except instead of dropping back to kdm, the computer simply freezes and becomes completely unresponsive. + 2. updating the linux wacom driver module to the latest stable version has no effect on behaviour. + + seems there must be a clue in the consistency of the crash upon loading + cellwriter, perhaps cellwriter is calling some input related function + that prompts the xserver crash/lockup. ** Tags removed: nvidia ** Package changed: nvidia-graphics-drivers-96 (Ubuntu) = ubuntu -- x server crash (wacom on hp tc1100) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/364996 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
