[Bug 286685] Re: FGLRX ATI 1800XT Low Graphics Mode when using Hardware Drivers Tool

2009-02-10 Thread neilneil2000
Sorry for not replying sooner.

I am currently running:
uname -a
Linux neil-desktop 2.6.27-11-generic #1 SMP Thu Jan 29 19:24:39 UTC 2009 i686
GNU/Linux

WIth no issues with the X1800XT. It works in Dual Screen setup too.

I have attached Xorg.conf for reference, although I don't know how
useful that is anymore.

[Bug 293041] Re: X won't start in 8.10 - D945GCLF Panasonic TV

2009-02-10 Thread neilneil2000
I can confirm that when a standard monitor is attached the screen works
as expected with no problems. I did notice however that the actual
installed OS is Mythbuntu I am going to format the hard drive and
install Ubuntu to if this alleviates the problem

[Bug 323558] [NEW] Onboard Ethernet does not work on D945GCLF under 2.6.27-9-generic or 2.6.27-11-generic

2009-01-31 Thread neilneil2000
Public bug reported:

Motherboard = Intel Atom D945GCLF
On board Ethernet = 01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co.,
Ltd. RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller (rev 02)

Using kernel 2.6.27-7-generic the on board Ethernet works fine with no
issues. Upgrading to either 2.6.27-9-generic or 2.6.27-11-generic
causes eth0 not to be recognised at boot, leaving the machine with no
network connection.

I had trouble getting the on board Ethernet to work with
2.6.27-7-generic initially, so I run a script which replaces the driver
chosen by Ubuntu on boot. This is attached as networkdriverswitch.

I have tried:

Removing the script from startup (In this case eth0 is recognised and the r8169
driver is loaded, this caused the interface to malfunction)
Recompiling the r8101.ko driver under 2.6.27-11-generic (eth0 is not recognised
at all)

If there is any further information you require, please ask

[Bug 293041] Re: X won't start in 8.10 - D945GCLF Panasonic TV

2008-11-13 Thread neilneil2000
I will try it with a standard monitor when I get a chance. I suspect it
will work too, but as I said it worked with the TV previously.

Here is the manual for the TV and as far as I can see it supports
standard VGA inputs.

http://dlc.panasonic-europe-
service.com/EUDocs/GetDoc.aspx?did=159842fmt=pdflang=ensrc=3uilang=encbAccept=ongo=View

I think it could be something to do with the messaging between the TV
and graphics card so say what resolutions are supported...I did know
what that was called once upon a time!

[Bug 293041] [NEW] X won't start in 8.10 - D945GCLF Panasonic TV

2008-11-03 Thread neilneil2000
Public bug reported:

I recently upgraded to 8.10 and now I am faced with a black screen on
boot (I still hear the Ubuntu Drums). I can access the vty terminals
and login etc so I know the machine hasn't crashed.

I assume this is something to do with the fact my xorg.conf is now
pretty sparse.

The hardware I am running is:

D945GCLF - Atom Board with on board Graphics
TH-42PZ80B - Panasonic Plasma TV

I can confirm that I had no problems with this setup before I upgraded
to 8.10

Please let me know of any files that would be helpful.

I can also attach a list of modes supported by the TV if this would be
any help.

Also is there anyway I can rollback X to get a picture in the meantime?

[Bug 159417] Re: included driver r8169 poor performance over RTL8101E Fast Ethernet Chipset

2008-10-10 Thread neilneil2000
I also have a problem with the r8101 chipset. I get incredibly poor
intermittent connectivity.

At boot the kernel loads the r8169 module and assigns it to the Ethernet
port. If I do a rmmod and insmod the 8101 driver it works fine.

I have tried blacklisting the r8169 driver but it seems to have no
effect.

[Bug 281350] [NEW] powernowd defaults without -n on desktop computer

2008-10-10 Thread neilneil2000
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: powernowd

In Hardy Heron, powernowd is installed by default and runs without the
-n option. This means nice processes are ignored in the calculations.

I don't think this is a suitable configuration for a desktop PC, as
there is no battery life concern as with a laptop.

The problem I was experiencing was that video encoding took noticeably
longer in Ubuntu than Windows. It took me a while to dig out why.

I initially tried to post this on the developers mailing list but was
told to post it here as a bug instead.

Please get back to me if you need any more information

Subject: [Bug 240071] Re: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 11s!

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

 1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-
image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and
 test.

 --or--

 2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer
2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4.
Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced.
You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the
bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please
open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the
2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please
specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26
kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

RE: [Bug 240071] Re: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 11s!

2008-09-24 Thread neilneil2000
Hi,

I have installed this kernel on my server and enabled the on board LAN
that was causing the problem.

I haven't yet attempted to use the port for connectivity but I did
notice that the drops was ranking up very quickly (millions per second).
This is without any cable plugged in. I then configured the port in
/etc/network/interfaces and the same continued.

So far I have not seen any crashing though.

I will try and establish connectivity on this port in the near future
and let you know the results, however with the number of drops
increasing so rapidly with no connection I am not holding out too much
hope.
