Picks up both screens, looses the printer.

Next reboot, right back at square one where colord only picks up one
monitor and the printer until I reinstall colord, and once I do that I
can see both monitors but not the printer... *SIGH*

[Bug 1934409] Re: Only one monitor showing in Color Corrections - System Settings Module

2021-07-03 Thread nukedathlonman
Well, colord no one tracks bugs (and I see lot's of ancient and very
open bugs).

Seen a couple that may or may not be similar, and the bugs go all the
way back to 11.04 - so I guess I'm the only person in the entire world
experiencing this...

But in case not, this problem would have a downstream effect on other
projects: gnome-color-manager (in my case it's pulled in by colord-kde).
Perhaps it's a problem in libxrandr2? I'm not fully sure of the
interrelations between the libraries for xrandr, colormgr, X, KDE,
Gnome, etc...

2021-07-01 Thread nukedathlonman
Okay, if I do a reinstallion of colord, I can see both monitors and
actually set the profile on the second screen. I lose the printer
profile upon doing this. This works until next reboot and then
everything reverts (only see one monitor and the printer color
profiles).

Did not have this issue with Kubuntu 20.10.

My notebook, which hasn't been upgraded from 20.10 yet (I'll hold off)
does not have this issue and it does show all display devices in Display
Configuration, useing xrandr from command prompt, and colormgr from
command prompt.

[Bug 1934409] [NEW] Only one monitor showing in Color Corrections - System Settings Module

2021-07-01 Thread nukedathlonman
Public bug reported:

I just made the switch to 21.04, and I've immediatly run into problem
with color corrections.

In the Color Correction - System settings Module, I can only see and
apply a color profile to my first display on the first display port
(DP0). My second display on the 2nd display Port (DP1) is not shown, so
I'm unable to apply a color profile to make the two monitors look
identical.

This seems to be a duplicate bug - see 1864061

So the fix is to edit alsa-base.conf

options snd_hda_intel dmic_detect=0

2020-10-28 Thread nukedathlonman
Updated Linux image 5.8.0-26 also not working.

** Description changed:

Just upgraded from Kubuntu 20.04 to 20.10 to find no audio device
detected. lsmod shows module loaded, but alsa/pulse/etc is not picking
up the audio device. If I boot using the old kernel that was left
behind, it works (5.4.0-52 from 20.04). It does not work with shipped
- kernel (5.8.0-52) & does not work with kernel 5.9.1-050901 (the current
+ kernel (5.8.0-25) & does not work with kernel 5.9.1-050901 (the current
unsigned kernel from mainline). lspci shows the device regardless of
what I boot. lsmod also shows the driver loading, but I don't see the
codec portion of the driver loading on the current and testing kernels.

[Bug 1890815] Re: vainfo requires a nvidia sofile not in repositories

2020-09-21 Thread nukedathlonman
Well, still brokenOr rather a key package is MIA. Trying to
configuring up my new HTPC and this was one of the major headaches I was
having with getting the video card operating properly. But thanks to
Patola, I pulled the missing package (vdpau-va-driver_0.7.4-7_amd64.deb)
from Debian - yes everything is functioning properly now.

[Bug 1869799] Re: no sound driver since 5.3.0.42 kernel

2020-04-06 Thread nukedathlonman
Notified of update today, and noticed one of the updates was for Kernel
Image 5.3.0-46. So I removed the testdsp SMP kernel today and installed
5.3.0-46 proper kernel: Intel HDA driver not loading (so dummy output).
So I'm back to workaround from 12.

I've just recently run into this on my Acer Swift 5 - works on 5.3.0.40,
doesn't work on 5.3.0.42 or 5.3.0.45. The work around works, as does
not using the work around with patched kernel 5.3.0.46 provided here.

This can be closed - totally my fault. I had several locked pacakages
(forgot about them) and was using a couple PPA's (Padoka's Stable MESA
PPA and Kubuntu backports). Was able to resolve it all with Aptitude
(just took a few hours) System is fully upgraded now that I fixed the

[Bug 1577074] Re: [HP Pavilion 15] Intermittent black screens

2017-06-20 Thread nukedathlonman
I just checked on Phoronix, AMD's DC stack has not been accepted for
kernel 4.13 - so very unlikely to make it into Ubuntu 17.10. Maybe AMD
steps on it they get it into kernel 4.14 at the earliest. The basic
(overly simplistic) problem is how it's coded and would make it a total
nightmare for the kernel dev's to maintain.

[Bug 1577074] Re: [HP Pavilion 15] Intermittent black screens

2017-06-20 Thread nukedathlonman
Whoa, hold up - it *may not* be. The kernel main line developers have
rejected the code for various reasons. Untill it's acepted mainline,
it's not a part of the kernel. Read the readme on the github site. AMD
has to make changes to DC (formerly known as DAL) to be accepted. So
anyone using the kernel I pointed out is just beta testers for the time
being. Glad it does work for you.

2017-06-18 Thread nukedathlonman
I was lucky and was able to pawn the computer off to another family
member with Windows installed (and I got myself an i3 based Dell that
works fine). That said, I had the computer back a month ago (to clean
out the heat sink and remove a virus - natch) and looked into it with an
external USB HDD. Nope, hasn't changed - BUT I tried a kernel with DAL
(DC) enabled - worked fine with that kernel. So hopfully AMD gets there
act together and make the needed changes to get it mainlined. Given
that some Carrizo based systems work fine with out DC/DAL support, I'm
betting it's a BIOS bug with the power settings of the GPU.

[Bug 1577074] Re: AMDGPU driver problems on "Carrizo" APU

2016-05-09 Thread nukedathlonman
I'm sure it will - the kernel in every release receives periodic
updates. But 4.6 is only a "candidate release" - a technical preview if
you will while bugs and such are fully baked out of the pie for final
release. You'll see one of the 4.5 kernels first - hopefully with a
fix, but it's also possible that a fix might not get backported. We
know there was a change, but what the change hasn't been pin pointed
exactly - makes it a bit harder for the Dev/packager to backport a fix
since the exact issue with the driver wasn't pinned down. Then again, I
suppose they could just backport the whole driver from 4.6g, but that
might lead into other bug's or issues... I'm sure they'll try to figure
it out.

Aside - I don't have random black screens on the Windows 10 side. I do
have (multiple) other AMD graphics drivers problems on that side
though... But let's not continue this discussion - this is supposed to
be a bug report and I'm sure the packagers/maintainers/Dev's would
rather see discussions relevant to the filed bug.

[Bug 1577074] Re: AMDGPU driver problems on "Carrizo" APU

2016-05-09 Thread nukedathlonman
I was using the closed fglrx (a.k.a. Crimson 15.12) on Kubuntu 15.10
(the latest updates from the regular repository - not the ones form the
various PPA's) and that worked fine for me. For 16.04 Wily, the kernel
packages from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v4.6-rc6-wily have newer open source AMDgpu kernel drivers
and those seem to work fine on the A10-8700P. Give that Kernel (or the
newer RC7 one) a shot.

Just a note for Jakedp (it's another unrelated bug and really doesn't
apply to this bug - so this can be ignored so far as the AMDgpu bug
report) - If we have the same laptop (and I believe we do), you'll also
have the same Realtek RTL8723BE Wireless adapter - there's another bug
that might affect you regarding that driver's antenna selection... The
fix is projected to be included in the Kernel 4.7 by the developer. I
was hoping it might have got backported into the 4.6 release candidates
- but it hasn't.

[Bug 1577074] [NEW] AMDGPU driver problems on "Carrizo" APU

2016-04-30 Thread nukedathlonman
Public bug reported:

Summery: I'm having a hard time tracing this down. I updated to Kubuntu
16.04 (from Kubuntu 15.10 - that was using the Linux Crimson 15.12
driver) a couple days ago on my notebook (HP Pavilion, A10-8700P APU),
and ever since I've been having random black screens. I started
debugging the driver, then thought it might be a DPMS issue (it's not -
I have DPMS fully disabled currently), and now I'm back to debugging the
driver. I don't have any remnants of the former closed Crimson display
driver and never had an xorg.conf file (I made a small one that I'm
using at the moment consisting of only a server layout to ensure screen
savers, DPMS, etc are all off). The Black screen can happen any time
from the login screen until hours later. I can ssh into the system to
shut it down. And just discovered that if I unplug the system from it's
power brick, I can close the lid - the system will goto sleep. When I
flip the screen back up, the system wakes up and the screen works again
for 1-2 minutes. I don't see any errors in the log files (well, outside
some nasty looking ACAPI errors in dmesg).

Steps to reproduce: boot system and use normally or simply leave system
alone. Blank screen will happen any time after x comes up.

Expected results: Screen doesn't blank unless a screen saver or power
saver kicks in.

System info: Purchased Dec 2015 (build date from BIOS - Aug 2015), HP
Pavilion 15" notebook, AMD A10-8700P "Carrizo", 16GB RAM, 960GB SSD

Well, in respect to what I see in the nVidia drivers (nvidia-opencl-

line (Enhances libopencl1) - the AMD driver is afterall providing
enhancements, but in it's base package as opposed to a seperate opencl

Actually looking at my nVidia equipped system, the nVidia packages
installed on it, and my AMD system and the AMD packages installed on it
right now... Thinking about it, shouldn't the AMD driver depend on ocl-
icd-libopencl1 package? Should the AMD pacakge be broken up into
seperate packages like the nVidia one (which would enable quicker bug
and/or updates to portions of it and such). Just food for thought.

Sadly, for the moment anyone who wishes to install both packages (which

that is edit the control file in the fglrx-core package of there choice
and install the edited package manually. Alberto Milone is working on
it (see Bug #1129409), but it's only ranked a medium sensitivity. Now
it is listed that the fix is in progress - so a fix is coming at some
point. :-)

[Bug 1376587] Re: wine and fglrx packages are mutually exclusive

2015-01-17 Thread nukedathlonman
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1129409 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1129409

Hi Jack,

The bug isn't in the Wine package's (at least, not any more), the show
stopper for getting Wine working with Catalyst is being caused by a
fight between ocl-icd-libopencl1 packages and the fglrx-core and/or
fglrx-updates-core Catalyst packages in the repo's as well as on AMD's
website at present time (from here on in I'll just refer to fglrx-core -
it applies tot he fglrx-updaes-core packages as well).

The basic problem is that the AMD fglrx-core won't install ocl-icd-
libopencl1 because both packages provide the virtual package libopencl1
(NOTE: the package ocl-icd-libopencl doesn't provide a libOpenCL.so file
as I originally feared however) - do to this, ocl-icd-libopencl1 won't
install with out removing the fglrx-core because it too provides a
virtual libopencl1 package.

So the package manager ends up thinking that if you Want Wine, to
resolve the conflicts it has to remove the fglrx-core packags.

Now, I could put the fixed packages into a PPA, except that would leave
some OpenCL bugs in place (I'm not a package maintainer, and aside from
modifying the control file in the fglrx-core packages (that's to per
terje's earlier post), I'm not really sure how to also bundle in he
OpenCL fixes into the package. I suppose I could make a corrections
package from scratch for the OpenCL corrections, but again, I'm not sure
how to do that as I've never done that before.

Besides (food for thought), I have one other problem putting out
corrected package in a PPAs. Does ocl-icd-libopencl actually provide
libopencl1 support directly like the AMD fglrx-core packages do, or is
ocl-icd-libopencl providing enhancements to libopenCL1? Which package
should be creating the libopenCL1 virtual package? Thats the question,
and the main reason why I don't want to make a PPA.

[Bug 1129409] Re: Nvidia and AMD graphics drivers should indicate whether they provide libcuda.so.1, libOpenCL.so.1, etc.

2015-01-15 Thread nukedathlonman
I posted on bug # 1376587... I fixed a couple bugs regarding the AMD
Catalyst drivers...

Okay, so the replaces line needs to change to this:

Enhances: libopencl1
Replaces: fglrx-driver-core
Provides: fglrx-driver-core, opencl-icd, amd-opencl-icd

Fresh install, I had to get rid of libopencl1 in the repalces line as it causes
a fight between packages..
I added the enhances line becasue, well, it enhances OpenCL with GPGPU support.

This allow's both the updates driver from the repo's and the drivers
form AMD's website to install with wine gracefully.

Why the Enhances line - I noticed that OpenCL wasn't working on my
system. SO a few more changes was in order:

In /usr/lib I create thed following symlink: libOpenCL.so and pointed it at
libOpenCL.so.1
Then I created two more symlinks for completness: libOpenCL.so.1.1 and
libOpenCL.so.1.2 and both of those pointed to libOpenCL.so (I did this incase
AMD or someone decides that proviced libOpenCL.so.1 file name should be
corrected to libOpenCL.so).

I then did the same in /usr/lib32

Then I went into /etc/OpenCL/venders and coped amdocl64.icd in the same dir but
called it amdocl32.icd
I edited that file, and changed libamdocl64.so to libamdocl32.so

Next, in /etc/ld.so.conf.d I made a file called opencl-vender-amd.conf
and add the line: /etc/OpenCL/venders

I then ran ldconfig to finalise the settings. Wine works fine as well
as GPGPU accelerated OpenCL (tested with BOINC).

[Bug 1376587] Re: wine and fglrx packages are mutually exclusive

2015-01-14 Thread nukedathlonman
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1129409 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1129409

Boo-YA! Got it. AND (!!! not fully related, but getting this working
also lead into fixing another problem), I got OpenCL working with out
haveing to resort to installing (or partialy installing the AMD APP
SDK...

Okay, so the replaces line needs to change to this:

Replaces: fglrx-driver-core

(Yes, that right, get rid of libopenCL1 - it causes a fight between packages)
Next, add this line after the depends line:

Enhances: libopencl1

Okay, so now that will allow wine to work on a freshly installed system.
Want OpenCL (GPGPU) working?? Keep reading:

In /usr/lib create the following symlink: libOpenCL.so and point it at
libOpenCL.so.1
Then create two more symlinks for completness: libOpenCL.so.1.1 and
libOpenCL.so.1.2

Both will point to libOpenCL.so (I did this incase AMD or someone
decides that proviced libOpenCL.so.1 file name should be corrected to
libOpenCL.so)..

Now, repeat the above steps, but change to /usr/lib32

Next, go to /etc/OpenCL/venders and you'll see a file called amdocl64.icd
Make a copy of it in the same dir called amdocl32.icd
Edit that file, and change libamdocl64.so to libamdocl32.so

Next, in /etc/ld.so.conf.d make a file called opencl-vender-amd.conf and
add the line: /etc/OpenCL/venders

Run ldconfig and your all set - Wine will install and work as wanted and
you'll have the bonus of having working OpenCL support. Hope this is of
help. Works with the updates drivers from the repo's and it also works
on AMD's DEB packages from AMD's website.

Uhh, doesn't that solution induce another issue? I'm looking at it: if
I read the solution right and looking at what wine installed,
libOpenCL1.so.1 that is provided by the AMD Catalyst driver will be over
written by the one provided by ocl-icd-libopencl1. Won't that break GPU
accelerated opencl support???

[Bug 1182677] Re: Alternative OpenGL lib's not updated when using closed drivers

2013-05-22 Thread nukedathlonman
Okay, I added a whole pile of debugging statments into it, and kept
running it as root - it is picking up the parameter configure, but the
files aren't updating. So next I tried executing a direct command from
the postinst file, to explicitly update the i386 file (as root): update-
alternatives --force --install /etc/ld.so.conf.d/i386-linux-gnu_GL.conf
i386-linux-gnu_gl_conf /usr/lib/nvidia-313-updates/alt_ld.so.conf 9702

The result was /etc/ld.so.conf.d/i386-linux-gnu_GL.conf updated. So,
now I'm scratching my head - why does it work from a command line but it
will not work from inside the script (it was a cut and paste with one
minor change (so it would execute as root). Well, I'm confused enough
and think it's time I hit the sack.

[Bug 1182677] [NEW] Alternative OpenGL lib's not updated when using closed drivers

2013-05-21 Thread nukedathlonman
Public bug reported:

I have two computers, both are now running run Kubuntu 13.04 x86-64
editions (the desktop also has Ubuntu Studio 13.04 x86-64), both use
closed source drivers (laptop has nVidia 9600M GS adapter, desktop has
AMD Radeon HD 6770). Before upgrading, both system's and three *buntu's
ran fine with all OpenGL lib's being pointed to correctly. After
upgrading, the video library paths got cleared leaving me with virtually
all my wine games seg faulting as well as native Linux games and
programs (Skype 4.1, Doom 3, Quake Arena, etc). The problem really
highlights it's self if the software wants to use OpenGL drivers.

I found a temperary fix by adding the video paths to these files:

/etc/ld.so.conf.d/i386-linux-gnu_GL.conf :

/usr/lib32/fglrx (On the desktop)
/usr/lib32/nvidia-313-updates (On the laptop)

/etc/ld.so.conf.d/x86_64-linux-gnu_GL.conf :

/usr/lib/fglrx #(On the desktop)
/usr/lib/nvidia-313-updates (On the laptop)

I tried updating the alternatives before I edited these files, and I
just got a message back on the terminal saying there were no
alternative's to configure.

This workaround works, but will need to be changed if these paths change
at any time. Now this shouldn't pose a problem for FireGL Catalyst
drivers, but it will pose problems for the nVidia drivers since the
driver series and type (ie 313 series Updates driver) is noted in the
directory.

After these two simple mod's, all my OpenGL programs (both native 64-bit
and 32-bit Linux apps, and Wine programs) worked flawlessly.

This does not effect the open source nVidia and AMD drivers, the issue
only shows up when using the closed nVidia and AMD binary blob's on
*buntu 13.04.

[Bug 1182677] Re: Alternative OpenGL lib's not updated when using closed drivers

2013-05-21 Thread nukedathlonman
sorry I didn't list a specific package, it's cause I'm not sure if it's
the nVidia/AMD packages, or related to another package. I did
deinstall/reinstall the video drivers numerous times over the weekend
(first thought was drivers didn't install properly, then started
thinking bug in the actual drivers, and then a realization the the issue
when I looked at the library paths with ldconfig), and went so far as to
try the AMD driver from there web site and removed it again, as well as
made use of Neuvoux and Gallium3D drivers (I didn't stick with open
drivers as they don't meet my needs). I spent hours debugging wine
before I realized what was happening and how it related to Wine, and
several programs. I then spent several hours testing and coming up
with the pesudo fix posted above. I am not sure if this effects the 32
bit editions, and can only fully confirm this is effecting Kubuntu and
Ubuntu Studio 13.04 (earlier releases are fine).

[Bug 1182677] Re: Alternative OpenGL lib's not updated when using closed drivers

2013-05-21 Thread nukedathlonman
Sorry, this is not a libc-bin bug... But looking through the postinst
scripts for the package's for both the ATI and nVidia drivers, it
appears that for some reason when the script is executed, the script's
in the 64-bit packages are skipping neumerous update-alternative lines,
hence ldconfig isn't setting up the directories. So it appears to be
the packages affected are fglrx, fglrx-updates, nvidia-173, nvidia-304,
nvidia-310, nvidia-313-updates, and possibly others.

[Bug 817181] Re: does not indicate foreign architecture when mentioning removal of non-host architecture packages

2011-11-02 Thread nukedathlonman
Well, Aptitude can't tell the difference between the architectures - so
it's possible the packages may not have need to be removed. I had the
same problem which aptitude wanted to blow away practically my entire
system - it wanted to remove X and KDE, and everything that relied on
them, not the i386 versions of anything, but the actual AMD64 ones I
need and use daily - when I did the distribution upgrade a few weeks ago
and received notice of my first updates a few days later... It took me
a few hours to get that all sorted with out blowing away my system. But
given this bug and bug 831768, I feel that Aptitude in it's current
state can be a very dangerous tool to use to use on a daily basis, which
is bad in my case as I use it because I find it's clean, easy, and very
powerful tool that keeps my system lean and mean.

[Bug 780720] [NEW] Network Manager (Plasma Widget) - won't auto-connect in all cases

2011-05-10 Thread nukedathlonman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: plasma-widget-networkmanagement

I recently upgraded my router to a dual band one due to the heavy
proliferation of single band wireless networks in my apartment building.
I configured up the router and my Vostro accordingly, however, no matter
how I configure network manager, it will never-ever reconnect automatic
to any router or access point on 5Ghz band unless I explicitly click on
it (I have checked the settings, it is set to auto-connect). It will
auto-connect to any network that's on a 2.4Ghz band. I've checked this
behaviour against 5 networks, same problem in all cases. I'm not sure
where the failure is, but I am confused as to why any portion of the
network manager would treat an access point operating on the 5Ghz band
any differently from an access point operating in the 2.4ghz band with
auto-connecting. I would expect network manager to auto-connect to any
network that configured to auto-connect to, regardless of the band it's
using. What happens is it will automatically connect to all 2.4Ghz
networks, but all 5Ghz networks I have to manually select the network to
connect to every time (I have been able to replicate this on 5
networks).

I'm running Kubuntu:

few others)... I'm looking at the logs, and it's for sure wpasupplicant
and the wl driver competeing with eachother causing the wpa connection
failures. But why, I don't know... I'm still trying to figure that
out.

For configurations, who's using what encryption protocalls? My router
is set to use AES only encryption, and the other routers I connect to
are WEP (don't ask, I don't configure peoples networks, I just use when
needed). Might present problems if your router/access point can use
both tkip and AES, and might cause more bugs with the router/access
point can also do both WPA WPA2 at the same time.

[Bug 572777] Re: NetworkManager or wpa_supplicant timing out when connecting wireless

2010-05-23 Thread nukedathlonman
Go to to Debain Packages Organization and manually download (watch your
arcitecture - i386 for 32-bit installs, AMD64 for 64-bit installs, etc,
etc - do not use ia64 for standard 64bit installes - that specifically
for the Intel Itanium CPU will cause very large problems/headaches)
wpasupplicant (here: http://packages.debian.org/sid/wpasupplicant ),
libpcsclite1 (here: http://packages.debian.org/sid/libpcsclite1 )
libssl0.9.8 (here: http://packages.debian.org/sid/libssl0.9.8). Once
all three are downloaded, install the two library packages first with
kpackagekit (for kubuntu - use gdebi for Ubuntu) then wpasupplicant.
When done, reboot you should have working wireless (post if not).

Thanks Nils - I did what you said but that just really upset network

that fixed it up for me.

2010-05-22 Thread nukedathlonman
So far, no issues with me my Debain Sid ported wpasupplicant
libriaries - worked out of the box, no other work beyond installing the
debs was required.

I hope the guys with Intel WiFi chips suffering the same problem try
both fixes out and that one of these fixes will help them. If neither
of these fixes can help those guys out, then the bug is only partly
solved. However I'm in 100% agreement that this should be marked a
critical bug.

[Bug 572777] Re: NetworkManager or wpa_supplicant timing out when connecting wireless

2010-05-06 Thread nukedathlonman
Okay, I'm comfortable this is not a duplicate of 496093 - I'm using the
wl Broadcom Hybird STA driver. Last night I downloaded the driver
directly from Broadcom, compiled it and replaced the one in my kernel -
no change in establishing connection (I initally tried using the
packaged version avalible, but I noticed that it compiles with errors).
I also downgraded wpa_suppicant to the one in Karmac - again, no chage.
So tonight I'll compile wpa_supplicant networkmanager from source and
see where I end up.

Zarama - is there any differances between the configuration of your home
network and office (ie: is one using WEP security and the other WPA?).

[Bug 572777] Re: NetworkManager or wpa_supplicant timing out when connecting wireless

2010-05-06 Thread nukedathlonman
Hmmm... Well, I see a couple of things to go on right now. I haven't
tried unsecured or WEP based encrypted access points like Steve has -
I'll dig out my old back up router and configure it up as a non-
protected access point as well as a WEP encrypted one this weekend to
check those ends as that would be a clear indicator of a problem with
the wl driver.

I'll stick to my original game plan and self compile wpa_supplicant and
networkmanager and see if I can get some debugging out put from them.
My worry is it doesn't appear to be a Broadcom driver problem since
there is someone with an Intel based wireless card reporting the same
problem here. I know there is also a ton of posts in the ubuntu forms
for serveral differant manufacturers of wireless cards doing this exact
same thing. Can everyone dig through there logs and post them - be much
easier for all of us to at least narrow down which package is failing
for us all.

2010-05-05 Thread nukedathlonman
Before I mark a bug I reported on Friday a duplicate - is this bug

Still researching and reading - if this is a duplicate bug, then it's
possibly a duplicate of 496093. The threads mostly around RaLink
drivers, but I've seen a few postings from people with Intel wireless
and Broadcom wireless based cards having the same issue. Looking at my
log, I see the same Association request to the driver failed that
started that bug. Still reading the messages as there is lot's of
posts. The worry here is that most of the posts are focused on the
Ralink driver - not wpa_supplicant, and only a couple of brief messages
of affects me to from a couple of people with other wireless - if that's
bug is only specifically for the RaLink driver, then this bug report is
not a duplicate of that issue.

my wireless is not connecting at all...The reading of this bug is

software - esp. Firefox - think the connection is not established and
starting off in offline mode. I don't ever remembering having that
issue at any point, and I personally don't believe the problems are
related...

[Bug 414324] Re: [karmic] Wireless Once disconnected knetworkmanager prompts with empty password field

2010-05-02 Thread nukedathlonman
Possibly bug # 572777 is a duplicate of this bug. When i upgraded form
9.10 to 10.04 I was using knetworkmanager - on a wired connection I
removed it and tried plasma-widget-networkmanagement and had the same
result with the screen prompt. Don't have a syslog to attach because
I'm using ME-II, but my syslog looks the same with either front end, and
the png attached here is the exact same box that constantly pop's up
when tryign to establish connection. On my end, it does have the
password however as the network is known. But network manager attempts
to connect and then times out, then I get the prompt again and the whole
cycle starts all over.

[Bug 572777] [NEW] NetworkManager or wpa_supplicant timing out when connecting wireless

2010-04-30 Thread nukedathlonman
Public bug reported:

I have a Vostro 1720 notebook running Kubuntu 10.04 with a Broadcom 4322
wireless adapter. It's using the Broadcom STA driver. I haven't had
any issues in the past with my setup with 9.04 (Jaunty) or 9.10
(Karmac), but but with the recent switch to the release of 10.04 (Lucid)
my wireless has pretty much quit working (so the ugly blue network wire
is now a necessity). I've managed to get it to connect twice for short
periods of time. I'm not sure if the problem is with NetworkManager or
wpa_supplicant, but Network manager keeps asking me for the passphrase
when I'm connecting to my access point. I also see a ton of time out
error's in my syslog. One other user reported having the same problems
in the Ubuntu forums here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9094575. He's using an Intel
based wireless adapter and Kubuntu 10.04.

[Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location when server configured with security=share

2009-01-10 Thread nukedathlonman
Yes, it most certainly does effect Debian as well.

My desktop has this problem (Ubuntu Intrepid) and I cannot connect to my
D-Link DNS-323 NAS unless I mount it manually from the command prompt.
I did try all of the suggestions here. I can see the server, I can see
the share, I get prompted for log in info, and then I see empty folder
with the message about not being able to display contents of the share.

My Laptop, running Debian Etch worked fine until I did some apt-pinning
to pull newer stuff in from Lenny Sid. I ended up needing to pull
Gnome in from Lenny. And now I'm having the same results - cant access
the smb share unless mounted via command prompt.

For now, I'm watching and trying new things as they come up - until it's
fixed I'm just using the ftp service on the DNS-323 (slightly
inconvenient, but it works)

[Bug 222174] Re: B43 driver causing numerous APIC errors

2008-12-05 Thread nukedathlonman
I'm not runing Kubuntu on my Acer Aspire 5002WLMi anymore - I'm running
Debian AMD64 Etch/Lenny/Sid (Etch with serveral things ported from
testing unstable). At anyrate, try compiling a Kernel from kernel.org
- all my wireless problems completly disappeared when I started running
the Kernel 2.6.28.x series kernels from there (I only see an occasional
APIC error - out side that, I'm now getting solid very reliable
connections with b43). And these APIC errors are not with Acer
coputers, I've seen many system logs from serveral brand of laptops
(HP's, Compaq's) that use broadcrum based wireless adapters. Most
people ignore them, and everyone has told me to not worry about them
because it's a non issue.

[Bug 222174] Re: B43 driver causing numerous APIC errors

2008-05-22 Thread nukedathlonman
Change that - when the computer goes into sleep mode (when I'm using it
on battery - I have all that disabled when runnign on hydro), the
wireless won't wake up. I tried having the computer unload B43 and ssb
modules before suspending, and then reload them on wake up - and it
won't connect to any AP untill I reboot the computer into Windows (it
unloads and reloads properly, and I can see various AP's, but if they
are encrypted with WEP or WPA it will not communicate at all). So I
ended up re-compileing ndiswrapper for Kernel 2.6.24-17 (the packaged
one doesn't work properly - it loads but wont talk to any AP) and am now
using the current kernel with APIC mode enabled.

[Bug 222174] Re: B43 driver causing numerous APIC errors

2008-05-14 Thread nukedathlonman
Sorry for taking so long to write back - I disabled APIC mode using the
noapic kernel boot parameter. And have been testing it for a few days
to fully confirmed that all the hardware is working properly - a touch
slower to boot, and can see a few things that were on separate
interrupts are now having to share. No major worries as everything is
working as it should be. I'm baffled as to why I can use APIC mode with
ndiswrapper and not get a flood of illegal register address messages and
the laptop is rock solid stable, but continuously get illegal register
messages instability if I don't disable APIC mode while I use the ssb
with b43 driver. I wonder if the wireless adapter is doing something
abnormal/non-standard... :-(

The info I snipped about the Broadcom board:

00:0b.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g]
802.11g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02)
Subsystem: AMBIT Microsystem Corp. TravelMate 2410

two fresh logs in a few minutes - I'll unblock the ssb and b43 drivers
while I block ndiswrapper and boot the kernel 2.6.17 that I'm having the

another boot of the same kernel for comparison.

[Bug 222174] Re: B43 driver causing numerous APIC errors

2008-05-05 Thread nukedathlonman
Bug also exists in 2.6.24-17 Generic. I also must apologize that I
labeled the Kernel version's wrong: 2.6.24-16 Generic is the Kernel I
was having problems with originally. The kernel that works fine for me
is Gusty's Kernel 2.6.22-14 Generic (my extreme bad)

With Kernel 2.6.24-17 2.6.2-16 I can manually remove B43 (modprobe -r
b43) to eliminate the APIC error (which stabilizes my system). Both the
effected kernels will load ndiswrapper driver, but neither kernel's
ndriswrapper will load the windows driver despite the windows device
driver showing present when ndiswrapper -l is executed. I also toyed
with blacklisting the b43 driver, unloading the ssb driver, and even
tried to blacklist the ssb driver - no joy in getting ndiswrapper to
take over with the Windows driver. Ndiswrapper works 100% with the
Windows Broadcom drivers in the old Gusty 2.6.22-14 Kernel, which is why
I've reverted to an older kernel for the time being.

[Bug 222174] [NEW] B43 driver causing numerous APIC errors

2008-04-25 Thread nukedathlonman
Public bug reported:

I have an Acer Aspire 5002WLMI and am not able to use the B43 driver in
Kernel 2.6.16-24 Generic. When I do, I get tons of APIC error messages
in dmesg while the system runs slowly and eventually crashes hard at
random. If I use Gusty Kernel 2.6.14-22 Generic with ndiswrapper, I get
no APIC error's while system runs fast and stable (can leave it on for
days with out crashing).

[Bug 154091] Re: Upgraded to Gusty, but systems want to re-upgrade and can't complete

2007-10-19 Thread nukedathlonman

Okay, the button showed up fine when I want to do the upgrade the first
time - but it's still showing up, and that is my problem. I did try
hitting it the second time, and eventualy it figured out that it already
was upgraded, but the button is still showing up (I'm just ignoreing it
for the time being)..

I know this is marked as the same as Bug #153889, but I truely do not
believe these are the same bugs (although they might be related). Bug
153889 is reported as Although Gutsy is released, Adept does not show
the upgrade button.

[Bug 105232] Re: Kodak USB connection stalls

I have, it made no difference on any other hardware. I'm presently
working away at UDEV HAL to figure out why HAL is not picking up the

reconnect my MP3 player on subsequent re-connects, HAL think the player
was never unplugged - it's a very unusual issue).

[Bug 51991] Re: Xorg process freezes, uses 100% of CPU. Can be killed by remote terminal.

2007-06-17 Thread nukedathlonman
Same issue here - Acer Aspire 5002WLMi notebook with (really crappy) SiS
video adapter. If I let the laptop idle for 30 minutes then Xorg starts
eating CPU cycles and maxes out the CPU. If left maxed more then 15
minutes, the only recovery is to kill the X.org process from another
terminal (X.org will take down the whole system if I try anything else).
This problem did not exist with Drapper or Edgy, and I've been studying
this phenomenon since upgrading to Feisty. As long as the computer is
in use it fine however (thankfully so). The problem also does not exist
on my desktop. I've been through all the system logs (no error messages
to trace), so I then disabled all screen savers, and disabled all device
drivers I could in xorg.conf - nothing seems to work outside leaving the
notebook in a terminal with a sudo'd top so that I can kill xorg.

[Bug 109507] Re: xorg eat 100% of the CPU when I use superkaramba and lock my desktop for a while ([apport] Xorg crashed with signal 5)

2007-06-17 Thread nukedathlonman
Strange, but I can add further verification of this bug... With
superkaramba loaded, Xorg would ramp up to 100% usage over 30 minutes
when my laptop was left to idle. 15 minutes after it reach top speed it
the system would crash if I did anything except kill Xorg. I hadn't
experienced this before upgrading to Feisty, and was experiencing it
thereafter. I was sure I must have had something mis-configured (I had
made a lot of video and screen related changes to play with dual head
operation, my HDTV just prior to the upgrade). After endless debugging
I gave up trying to solve the issue, and reported it under bug 51991
because it resembled everything I could debug. Even top wasn't showing
superkaramba as eating up the CPU cycles, just Xorg. After reading this
bug report, I decided to try unloading superkarama, and low and behold,
the problem has completely disappeared. Thanks for the reporting, I
never would have thought of this - hope this bug can be fixed!!

[Bug 105232] Re: Kodak USB connection stalls

2007-06-17 Thread nukedathlonman
Okay, I borrowed a powered hub to see if it's a hardware related issue.
I'm now starting to believe this could very well be a hardware bug. I
still get very brief stalled messages as before when the transfers of
each file I'm copying (moving, deleting, etc) initially occur for each
file, however the transfer speeds now match that of when I used to use
Windoze. Going to investigate some more, and have yet to try out
various MP3 players to see if a powered hub fixes those problems as
well.
