[Bug 584285] [NEW] Upgraded to 10.4 from 9.10 via Synaptic. Logged off and logged on again as a KDE session.
Public bug reported: When re-booting my pc it automatically gets me into a KDE log on screen, which disappears before I can do anything. (The screen goes back to the normal Ubuntu logo with the dots underneath) I take it KDE is not installed as default so it seems that my pc don't really know what to do. I cannot get back to my normal Gnome session during boot up. I can get a command line during boot up (via ctrl+alt+F2) but whatever I do there will not let me boot up in my normal Gnome. So it seems to be that the option of logging on in KDE - though it is not available - caused this and somehow locked the machine up. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Upgraded to 10.4 from 9.10 via Synaptic. [Bug 466556] Re: After upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10 no sound is available. asound -l from the command line gives: aplay: device_list:223: no soundcards found...
I tried 'sudo upDATE-grub (I assume it wasn't 'upgrade' as it gave me 'no such command' message) but it made no difference. However, I found something abut this on an Ubuntu forum page (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1307491page=3) which got me my sound back, though I'm not sure it is the actual way of doing it as it threw me some errors at start-up. My menu.lst file mentioned nothing of 9.10, so I added a paragraph, identical to the first one on the list, but changed 9.04 to 9.10 and the kernel version to 2.6.31-14. Is this the correct kernel version for my upgrade? This also gave me some additional choices in the sound preferences, one being 'Internal Audio Analogue Stereo'. This was not present previously. The mute check box was also ticked, which I of course un-ticked. This gave me the sound back but certain settings are now not quite the same on the computer, eg all the desktop icons were gone. -- After upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10 no sound is available. asound -l from the command line gives: aplay: device_list:223: no soundcards found... https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/466556 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm glad to say that most things seem to be working now. The additional problems, with the black desktop etc, seems to be caused by compiz. [Bug 341898] Re: Mythtv frontend does not display any fonts
I have Ubuntu 9.04 Alpha 6 and get a black rectangular box when I try to run MythTV. After reading through the code after trying to run the backend setup of mythtv, it seems to me like this could be due to the theme directory not having a correct link. The error codes told me it could not find any themes in /home/htpc/.mythtv/themes/Mythbuntu-8.04 First, I have ubuntu 9.04. Second, there is no such directory. I did clean installs and no new themes. I'm pretty sure this is now fixed since today's (June 13th) hardy- proposed update of Firefox (to 3.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1) and Xulrunner (to 1.9.0.1+build1+nobinonly+0ubuntu0.8.04.1). The symptoms are no longer reproducible on my system, closing Google Mail/Docs tabs no longer cause Firefox to crash with a Segmentation Fault. [Bug 214817] Re: When I close a tab that has a Gmail page loaded, firefox crashes
I have the exact same behaviour on Firefox 3 RC2 on Ubuntu Hardy. Using -safe-mode, disabling all plugins, moving .mozilla away, having a brand new profile... None of those actions helps, Firefox still crashes closing a Gmail tab. And it happens a lot. As in several times a day - a lot. Lately I've noticed it's not only Gmail and Google Docs -- a few other pages cause the same crash when you close their tabs. The only thing I've seen in common with them is the heavy use of Javascript/Ajax. It's been argued that this is not a bug but merely a Google API issue. I have the same Firefox 3 RC2 running on an openSuse system and another on Windows Vista SP1. Neither are affected. Only the Ubuntu one is. So I don't understand how this is caused by Google not supporting Gecko/XULrunner 1.9. -- When I close a tab that has a Gmail page loaded, firefox crashes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/214817 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 49594] Re: Bonobo-activation-server sometimes is not killed after session restart, leading to many unexpected problems
The fix suggested above doesn't work. GNOME_Panel_TrashApplet.server already has the suggested oaf_atrribute (bonobo:enviroment) inside the correct oaf_server location and the trash applet still doesn't work. But not only that, bonobo-activation-server now is affecting my eog. I've noticed in every session eog starts to behave erratically (sometimes works, sometimes silently drops) until it simply stops working. Launching it from the command line (ie, eog picture.jpg) works, but trying to open the same file via nautilus default association doesn't work. After a while, ps ax | grep eog shows all the stuck eog processes stuck cluttering the memory, and they need to be killed. This bonobo bug evolved from being an annoyance (panel applets) to being a productivity killer and major show stopper (eog not working). I'm now considering some form of rollback. -- Bonobo-activation-server sometimes is not killed after session restart, leading to many unexpected problems https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/49594 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 49594] Re: Bonobo-activation-server sometimes is not killed after session restart, leading to many unexpected problems
I appreciate your help, my friend, and I'm happy you're -certain- this isn't the same problem. Indulge me, however. EOG (ie eog picture.jpg) works via command line, but then it doesn't work while being called via nautilus (ie double-click picture.jpg) when bonobo is on. The EOG process hangs. Kill bonobo momentarily, and EOG resumes working. You know what's funny... if I had a number of failed attempts to open a picture with EOG, and haven't killed their individual processes, the second I kill b-a-s, they all pop up. So that's an EOG bug I should file? Really? Same with the Trash Applet... killall gnome-panel; killall bonobo- activation-server (so gnome-panel is restarted while b-a-s isn't yet running) restores the trash applet, if only for the rest of the current session. Same with the timer applet. Same with weather. I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm certain, but I do have a strong suspicion filing a string of duplicate bugs against each app and applet affected by something bonobo is doing wrong isn't the way to go. And yes, perhaps this isn't the right bug. But all these problems were introduced to me by the last bonobo-activation update, and up in these comments people were discussing bonobo screwing up the applets, so I thought it applied. I'm sorry if it isn't the case, I'll take it elsewhere. By the way, I use the proposed repos so I kinda expect minor breakage once every blue moon but this is ridiculous by any standards.
I can confirm the bug on Hardy intel 32bits, up to date and using the proposed repositories. In my case the affected symptom is a few applets (most notably the trash icon) disappearing from panels. The problem persists even after several reboots. But, if I manually kill bonobo-activation-server and then restart the panels (killall gnome-panel) the affected applets are displayed again. -- Bonobo-activation-server sometimes is not killed after session restart, leading to many unexpected problems https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/49594 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 190754] Re: Over-optimistic buffering in PulseAudio causes underruns (audible stuttering, pops)
I can confirm this on Hardy Heron final, CPU Intel Pentium 4 (2.8gHz), 1.5 GB RAM, AC 97 onboard sound, Nvidia video binary drivers. Rhythmbox stutters, when minimizing/maximizing (compiz enabled), alt+tabbing, even while scrolling pages on firefox and basically all the time while using apt/update manager.
