[Bug 1888422] Re: Notebook suspends during boot when booting with lid closed
I am sorry for the misinformation. Now I see I originally installed Ubuntu in the version 19.10 then upgraded it to 20.04. The problem was present in the version 19.10 already. ** Description changed: When I am booting notebook with external monitor connected (either directly or through a docking station) and the lid closed I enter the full disk encryption password and a moment later the notebook goes to suspend state (suspend to RAM) before the GDM login screen shows up on the monitor. When I wake the notebook using the power button on the docking station (the lid is still closed) everything then works correctly. It does not matter if the power supply is connected or not. [Bug 1247564] Re: Initial window size slightly too small causing scaling+smoothing on image
Was this bug really fixed in Ubuntu? As Øyvind Stegard wrote the same bug is still present in Ubuntu 14.04. With the default theme (Ambiance, and Radiance too) the window height is 2 pixels smaller than necessary for the correct pixel to pixel display. When the theme is changed to High Contrast or the toolbar in EOG is disabled the bug does not show. 14.04 contains GTK+ 3.10.8 and the resolution from https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=719595 was released with GTK+ 3.10.6. [Bug 741869] Re: Unity/compiz intercepts Super and Alt keypresses from grabbed windows like VMs.
The behaviour is much better after patching but for example in VMware Workstation (or Player) some problems persist: When the keyboard is grabbed (mouse is in the window of a VM with VMware Tools) and the keys (Super or Alt) are pressed nothing happens in Unity as expected. But when the keyboard is ungrabbed (mouse leaves the window) shortly after the keypress Unity behaves as if the key was pressed again. Test case: 1. In VMware Workstation (or Player) start a VM with VMware Tools installed. 2. Move the mouse cursor inside the window of the VM. 3. Press Super or Alt. 4. In less than 2 seconds move the mouse cursor outside of the window. 5. Nothing should happen in Unity but Unity actually behaves as if the key (Super or Alt) was pressed again. It seems that there is a timeout for this behaviour. When the keyboard is ungrabbed after more than approximately 3 seconds then nothing happens in Unity as expected. Alternative test case (does not require VMware Tools but is not so annoying.): 1. In VMware Workstation (or Player) start a VM. 2. Grab the keyboard in the VM (Ctrl+G or mouse click). 3. Press Alt. (Super does not demonstrate this problem completely in this variant.) 4. In less than 2 seconds ungrab the kyboard by pressing Ctrl+Alt. 5. Nothing should happen in Unity but Unity actually behaves as if the key (Alt) was pressed again. (With Super Dash only flashes shortly.) ...but since this problem does not show up when the VM is in full screen mode then it seems that the bugfix in Unity behaves correctly as described in this case. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/741869 Title: Unity/compiz intercepts Super and Alt keypresses from grabbed windows like VMs. To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/741869/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1089195] Re: linux-headers will eat your inodes on LTS.
This is really annoying bug. Even experienced user who never encountered a problem with consumed inodes will spend a lot of time finding the cause of the problem. The error message "No space left on device" does not suggest that the problem is with inodes. The update process should certainly remove very old kernels automatically by default or show an explanatory warning. [Bug 1320995] Re: Error message after setting a non-standard display resolution in a virtual machine
Here is a screenshot of the desktop right after logging in. You can see part of the extremely tall error pop-up and the display resolution setting. You can also notice that at this phase the desktop is not completely functional: - The window menus are permanently visible at their normal (non-Unity) place. - Some keyboard shortcuts do not work. [Bug 1317253] Re: UI scaling and font scaling sometime get confused/change at random.
I think that the bug was misunderstood. I have noticed the same bug but when I scaled the UI the other way -- down. In "System Settings > Displays > Scale for menu and title bars" I set 0.875 to have smaller control elements in the GUI. This setting also scaled the fonts down. Unfortunately few days later I noticed that the fonts are very small - almost unreadable. I did not have Unity Tweak installed at this time so it is not certainly a bug on the Unity Tweak Tool. Returning the "Scale for menu and title bars" parameter back to 1 did not return the scaling to normal. To quickly check various parameters inaccessible in the standard UI I have later installed Unity Tweak and there I noticed that the scaling factor for fonts was set to 0.5. I have never configured the scaling factor for fonts! After returning both scaling factors to 1 the system appears normally again. ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1317253 Title: UI scaling and font scaling sometime get confused/change at random. [Bug 525033] Re: During installation "Error informing the kernel about modifications to partition /dev/XXX -- Device or resource busy"
Installation of Xubuntu 13.10 beta2, also observed with Xubuntu 13.10 beta1 and Ubuntu 13.10 beta1. Installation on Asus Eeee PC 1000H. After partitioning (default options) a popup with this text appears: Error informing the kernel about modifications to partition /dev/sda1 -- Device or resource busy. This means Linux won't know about any changes you made to /dev/sda1 until you reboot -- so you shouldn't mount it or use it in any way before rebooting. I tried to update the partition information manually without success: # partprobe /dev/sda Error: Error informing the kernel about modifications to partition /dev/sda1 -- Device or resource busy. This means Linux won't know about any changes you made to /dev/sda1 until you reboot -- so you shouldn't mount it or use it in any way before rebooting. Error: Failed to add partition 1 (Device or resource busy) I checked the status of /dev/sda: # fuser -v /dev/sda USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/sda:root 4051 F parted_server So parted_server wrongly keeps /dev/sda open. After pressing "Ignore" button in the popup the same message appears for /dev/sda2. After pressing "Ignore" button again the following message appears: The ext4 file system creation in partition #1 of SCSI1 (0,0,0) (sda) failed. Then the parted_server does not keep /dev/sda open any more and the kernel partition table (/proc/partitions) is partially updated (/dev/sda5). After running partprobe /dev/sda the kernel partition table is updated completely (sda1, sda2, sda5). After pressing OK in the last pop-up, the installer returns to the "Installation type" window. After pressing "Install now" the installation normally continues. ** Also affects: ubiquity Importance: Undecided Status: New ** No longer affects: ubiquity -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/525033 Title: During installation "Error informing the kernel about modifications to partition /dev/XXX -- Device or resource busy" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/parted/+bug/525033/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
