This is weird, as I don't have problems ( and never had ) at all running
Intrepid in VB under Hardy; both have all the latest updates as of
today. What info should I point out here to solve why it's working for
me and not others?

@ Jon Packard: yes, I have Vt-x enabled; and when I disable it I get a
kernel panic as well, which ends the same as ANDREA's. I'm running VB
1.6.2 under Hardy. My processor is a C2D T5600. Attached is a dmesg from
Intrepid. What looks weird to me is:
weird, boot CPU (#0) not listedby the BIOS.
I just did a recent minimal install on an ibook clamshell and ran into the same
problem; you need to manually load the driver. This was a Hardy install.

I think it is not really valid anymore... It turned out to be a problem with
the cable; the cdrom and my harddisk where on the same ide cable, which caused
problems; I could get around this by setting the -immed and -minbuf flags of
cdrecord I apologize for never posting back about this.

Having the same problem here on an iBook 900. I think this bug is
related to X, because when I get this lockup, I can still ssh into my
machine. When I run top through ssh, X is maxing out my cpu... Strange
thing is I can't kill it either; it just keeps running. So I have to

I am now running Feisty, and this bug got fixed for me since I upgraded to
Edgy. Under Dapper the place left of the touchpad used to be really hot all the
time and the fans would come on quite often as stated above, but now everything
is really cool :-)

Hi, I can confirm this bug; turns out that in the gconf settings for
gnome-btdownload, the min_port and max_port are both set to 6881. If you
change max_port to a higher number, the problem is solved.

I can sort of confirm this. For the record, I did a clean install of
Edgy. After reading this bug I checked in Synaptic under totem, and
there is an installed totem package ( official; with the ubuntu logo
next to it in synaptic ) which says it is a dummy package always
depending on the latest
Having the same problem here; cannot run my desktop anymore because gnome-panel
keeps crashing, but don't know why. ( this is under Edgy ) There is a post in
the forums about this, and the person came up with the following solution; he
created another user and copied his stuff from his home

Edit to my above post:
The dhclient timing out had something to do with my router not releasing
an ip-address So it works again, but the rest stated is still true.

Same problem here; have my /etc/network/interfaces setup properly, but... Link
not ready. If I do iwlist scan; it doesn't support scanning. When I do:
iwconfig eth1 essid myessid, it becomes ready, and was able to connect, but at
the moment, dhclient times out.
When I do: sudo iwconfig eth1
For me it works with the symlinks in place ( sort of ). Although my
/etc/network/interfaces has this setting, it doesn't work before I do a
manual
iwconfig eth1 essid myessid
and then a manual dhclient.
But I think this is another bug...

I've been running Dapper on my iBook G3 900 640MB quite a while now, and it
runs so hot compared to OSX. The fans come on quite a lot and also the battery
life is much shorter ( 2/3 to 1/2 the time compared to OSX ) . I also tried
Xubuntu to see if this was less resource
