i have done further tests with regard to this and i have established
that it is the plugin zeitgeist that is causing the crashing. the way i
tested this was i disabled all plugins and tested it. then reactivated
each plugin one by one.
terminal output when i ran rhythmbox from terminal.
Rhythmbox closes itself down after couple of minutes when listening to
music. I have had to to use audacious at the moment since Rhythmbox
doesn't work.

i am only testing it on libreoffice because it is default office suite
and don't have open office installed.
when you open a libreoffice files, writer or spreadsheet etc it doesn't
shows the minimise and maximise and close buttons along with the title
of the file you have open.

when you open the menu list at the top of the window and a notification comes
through ie change song notification or new message notification the x server
i have just tested this again to see how it behaves now.
when the song changes and notification is displayed while scrolling
through the menus it no longer crashes x server.
but it still happens when you are scrolling the menu and someone sends
to a IM.
to reproduce this.

i can confirm that if you mount the dvd video without playing it. the
eject button on the drive works but it leaves it mounted so when you
insert another disk it doesn't work until you have unmounted the first
disk.
when you press the eject button on the drive it should do both unmount
i have done the above and attached the files required.

sorry but this still doesn't seem to work for me.
when i insert a dvd-video and then stop watching it and close totem and press
the eject button on the drive nothing happens. i still have to open nautilus
and unmount/eject from there.

this sounds more like bug #397734 (the eject button on drive doesn't
work when mounted)
when i play a dvd-video it mounts and plays ok now with this new
libbrasero-media0 2.28.1. i cant eject using the drive button but can
unmount/eject using nautilus, then drive button works again until
i can confirm that if you uninstall libbrasero-media0 2.28 or downgrade this
package to 2.27.92 then dvd playback works again.
also fixes another problem that i had whereby if you unmount and eject a disk
and close the draw you where unable to reopen the dvd drawer to insert another
disc as it
i use to have problem with software centre and update manager. crashing and
getting bug report symbol all the time.
i installed rsyslog and ubuntu-minimal and the problems have been solved.
do you have these packages installed.

i have just checked this on my system which is fully updated, and i
noticed this while ago.
i have done some investigative work with regard to this to fine out when
it does it.
when you turn the application volume up, the master volume level
changes to match the application volume. if you

installed the acpitool and typed the above acpitool -f and got response fan :
off.
i tried the next command acpitool -F 1 got message.
forcing the fan of/off is ony supported on toshiba laptops.
no toshiba acpi extensions were found .
