[Bug 1725954] Re: It is hard and nonintuitive to switch to console ttys on Ubuntu 17.10

2017-11-20 Thread trendzetter
If you are not seeing your tty's but only a frozen screen you could try this
solution. It worked for me:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/162535/why-does-switching-to-the-tty-give-me-a-blank-screen

[Bug 1725954] Re: It is hard and nonintuitive to switch to console ttys on Ubuntu 17.10

2017-11-18 Thread trendzetter
I have a more positive impression about 17.10 in general and I am seeing
improvement for my situation.
Since an update today I can see the tty's again when fully booted and pressing
ctrl-alt-f2 but still unable to see them during slow boot.

I am seeing tty's in the process list in gnome terminal but I can't
access them. The screen just freezes.

2017-11-08 Thread trendzetter
I also have no tty's to check what is happening during boot, is this the same
issue or should I file another bug?
My laptop was doing something for 5 minutes but I couldn't check the text modus
by pressing ctrl-alt-F1 or any other FN.

[Bug 1264096] Re: [W65_67SZ, Intel Haswell HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

2014-03-07 Thread trendzetter
I can work around the issue by closing the laptop so it hibernates. When I
reopen the computer it suddenly plays sound.
I have noticed this line in dmesg after the sound became available after
restarting from hibernation:
[ 7010.272800] Haswell HDMI audio: Power for pin 0x6 is now D0

[Bug 1256655] Re: [Gazelle Professional, Intel Haswell HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] Playback problem, built in speakers work but no audio over HDMI

2014-01-27 Thread trendzetter
I have a similar laptop from BTO laptops. I noticed that a workaround
exists for me. I start with closing the laptop with the cable connected
until it is in hibernation and then opening it again. Selecting the hdmi
using pavucontrol I can get the HDMI audio to work.

See my bugreport here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-

Raymond,

I am currently on the mainline 13.10 kernel. Should I try to install a
kernel from the alsa team ppa to test if I get audio correctly all the
time with the new versions?

[Bug 1264665] Re: [W65_67SZ, Intel Haswell HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] Playback problem, pavucontrol shows hdmi signal but no sound on tv

2014-01-01 Thread trendzetter
GOOD news!! I found a workaround that could be useful for others with
the same problem as well as for finding the cause/solution.

I noticed that I do get audio over hdmi when I close the laptop with the
hdmi cable connected. It then goes to sleep. When I open it the audio
over hdmi magically works!

Is there any details I can post for the ubuntu devs so they can find out
what causes this bizarre issue?

Raymond, EDID is normally also used to determine the screenresolution
but that seems to have a working baseline configuration. I also play
hdmi video + audio on my older laptop with intel hdmi with the same
cable and tv. It's a sony bravia kdl 32ex600. I will try to install the
firmware update. I will let you know soon.

The EDID is different than when connected on the intel haswell laptop.
Does this make sense? Can it be that the driver incorrectly reads the

This might not be an ubuntu bug as I had a newer kernel installed. I
reverted to the default kernel and logged a new bug:

2013-12-25 Thread trendzetter
Are you suggesting my bios is buggy? I see no updates from American Megatrends
board: W65_67SZ
If I look in the bios menu it says the version is: 1.03.02
KBC/EC firmware 1.03.02
ME FW version 9.0.20.1447

I can listen using a livecd 13.10 (but no HDMI audio), I think I lost all sound
when installing a newer kernel.
Using windows2go I can play hdmi audio after installing the intel graphics
driver.

@Pete Graner: I already did:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/428054
I am under the impression that a wide range of intel grafic cards has the same
problem or similar problems with controlling the backlight under KMS. Searching
the bugs and forums certainly indicates that. I can't understand why intel is
not fixing this. I bought intel onboard because I thought they were cool with
linux and GPL. Maybe I am just to inpatient but it wouldn't be no unnecessary
luxury to have this in the final karmic release.

[Bug 428054] Re: xrandr backlight property control missing (when using KMS?)

2009-10-01 Thread trendzetter
Seems to me that this might be a mayor issue. I don't know how many people are
affected but many people are buying notebooks with these intel graphic chips.
Not being able to adjust brightness is a serious problem for usability.
I have the intel GMA4500MHD chip.

[Bug 427925] Re: unable to modify scsi host link_power_management_policy

2009-09-18 Thread trendzetter
I noticed that it is only host0 that is fixed on max_performance. I also have
host1 to 5 that are fine (configurable). I'm not sure on which host my sata
disc is connected.
The fan on my brand new ultra energy efficient laptop keeps spinning all the
time which should not be the case I guess. Powertop keeps telling me I should
look into this issue with
/sys/class/scsi_host/host0/link_power_management_policy

[Bug 369498] Re: 32bits gtk and glib modules not found in ia32-libs

2009-09-15 Thread trendzetter
The links seem to have little influence. I have added them now
cd /usr/lib/gio/modules
ln -s /usr/lib32/gio/modules i686-pc-linux-gnu
ln -s /usr/lib32/gio/modules i686-pc-linux-gnu

I have copied the gvfs files in 32bit version from a chroot on my
machine. I was still unable to locate the (gvfs) packages you created
that contain these files.

[Bug 369498] Re: 32bits gtk and glib modules not found in ia32-libs

2009-09-14 Thread trendzetter
Hello Alexander
I'm trying to figure out how to test it. This is what I did:
cd /usr/lib/gio
ln -s /usr/lib32/gio/ i486-pc-linux-gnu
ln -s /usr/lib32/gio/ i686-pc-linux-gnu

Than I downloaded some files (libglib2.0-0_2.21.5-0ubuntu3.asac1_i386.deb) from
https://edge.launchpad.net/~asac/+archive/sandbox/+packages and extracted the
contents. Than copied it to /usr/lib32
Shouldn't there be libgiogconf.so, libgioremote-volume-monitor.so,
libgvfsdbus.so in /usr/lib32/gio/modules/ ? I didn't find them in your archives.

[Bug 397617] Re: brightness no more working on karmic (KMS)

2009-09-13 Thread trendzetter
I'm not sure if I really use KMS but I added an option to the kernelboot in
order to disable it:
Sep 13 19:41:55 ubuntu kernel: [0.00] Command line:
BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-10-generic
root=UUID=d9aeca27-f2de-4b4b-ac98-9ff714300820 ro quiet splash
libata.force=noncq nomodeset

Still unable to dim the display. When using the hotkeys on my laptop I
get a notificationwindow showing the dimming of the backlight but it
does not actually happen.

[Bug 369498] Re: 32bits gtk and glib modules not found in ia32-libs

2009-09-11 Thread trendzetter
After adding the symlink suggested above the libcanberra error is gone but I
still get errors about gio:
/usr/lib/gio/modules/libgioremote-volume-monitor.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
Failed to load module: /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgioremote-volume-monitor.so
/usr/lib/gio/modules/libgiogconf.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
Failed to load module: /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgiogconf.so
/usr/lib/gio/modules/libgvfsdbus.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
Failed to load module: /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgvfsdbus.so

I tried the PPA by Alexander Sack with the libglib2 build but it does
not solve the bug for me.

Is there anything I can do to help out? Any tips on how I could try to
build custom deps myself?
