[Bug 2000304] Re: Waking up laptop from sleep lets login screen reveal desktop

2023-01-07 Thread Ulrich Scholz
I have to correct myself: It does not happen on exactly every wakeup.
But it happens about every third wakeup. And it does and did so for
quite some time and several Kubuntu LTS versions.

[Bug 1968887] Re: Save As Dialog Box does not get focus in Ubuntu 22.04

2022-05-26 Thread Ulrich P. Klein
Same problem here with google-chrome-stable 101.0.4951.64-1 and firefox (snap)
100.0.2-1
I'm using ubuntu 22.04, cinnamon 5.2.7-4, mutter 42.0-3ubuntu2.

Which is even more annoying: When I change the directory, sometimes the
file is not saved at all. This is repoducible for some directories,
ohters work. No rule found up to now

This makes the save dialogue fairly unusable.

[Bug 1892369] Re: Impossible to skip integrity test for ubuntu-server 20.04.1 iso

2021-03-05 Thread Ulrich Pense
Sorry, but that's not true. The integrity check, when booting from a
virtual CD-ROM, as it is common with servers equipped with remote
consoles on hardware management boards (iLO, iDRAC, CIMC tec.) still
takes ages.

The integrity check is faster instead, when the operating system is
installed in a VM and the ISO is mounted directly as a CD into the VM.

But the workaround Camille mentioned works. I've used this on a Cisco
CIMC. So don't forget to hit "e" on the install screen. This definitely
saves time.

2021-01-20 Thread Ulrich Stefenelli
Public bug reported:

Hi,

usually if a keyword is doubleclicked all other occurrences are highlighted.
However if more than 2 keywords are highlighted then a subsequent mouse-wheel
action triggers a screen scroll to the first selected keyword, the current
screen scroll is lost.
Is it a feature or a bug?
How can I keep the current scroll position?

[Bug 1908823] Re: sporadic WiFi aborts with opening a window requesting to enter the WiFi password that is pre-filled

2020-12-21 Thread Max-Ulrich Farber
With me the problem always occurs when in a running connection the
channel is changed. This may happen in a busy neighborhood, if in the
Router (FritzBox 7530) the automatic channel selection (recommended) is
selected. It certainly may happen too if a Repeater is in use.

If I switch of and on manually the WIFI, this procedure is treated as a
new connection, and the installed password is found automatically with
no request, quite as it aught to be.

[Bug 1882980] [NEW] unix extensions disabled by default

2020-06-10 Thread Max-Ulrich Farber
Public bug reported:

when mounting a cifs share by the command line
sudo mount -t cifs //192.168.178.23/Bilder_klein /mnt -o guest,rw
the cifs unix extensions are disabled by default. The mount option `unix` or
`posix` is refused.

The command `mount` shows:
`//192.168.178.23/Bilder_klein on /mnt type cifs
(rw,relatime,vers=3.1.1,sec=none,cache=strict,uid=0,noforceuid,gid=0,noforcegid,addr=192.168.178.23,file_mode=0755,dir_mode=0755,soft,nounix,serverino,mapposix,rsize=4194304,wsize=4194304,bsize=1048576,echo_interval=60,actimeo=1)`
Therefore the option `nounix` has been set by default, not according to `man
mount.cifs`.

[Bug 1872476] Re: Shared files are shown as folders

2020-05-05 Thread Max-Ulrich Farber
In the German UbuntuUsers forum there are several threads concerning
this bug, for instance:

https://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/freigaben-im-netzwerk-sind-nicht-
erreichbar/

For some users it happens regularly (like myself), for others it happens
sometimes and with several kinds of files only, and still others say
that it does not happen at all. This is very strange!

Anyhow, for me the bug seems to disappear completely with Sergio's
update.

[Bug 1872476] Re: Shared files are shown as folders

2020-05-02 Thread Max-Ulrich Farber
Thanks, Sergio!

After adding your ppa in a newly installed virtual machine with Xubuntu
20.02, all shares of my NAS and my FritzBox were accessible and
browsable via SMB-1 (client max protocol = NT1). I tried with Thunar and
Nautilus (both gtk and therefore using gvfs); all files are displayed
correctly and accessible without any problems. As Bruno F verified, it
is the same thing for file managers in qt (Kubuntu, Dolphin and others)
using GIO slaves.

For my real machines I shall wait for the SRU you announced, and I hope
it will arrive soon!

[Bug 1876308] Re: in GIO 2.64.2 (Ubuntu 20.04) smb file attributes corrupted

2020-05-01 Thread Max-Ulrich Farber
It seems to be the same problem as bug 1872476, but there it seems to
affect samba. I found that samba 4.11.7 alone works fine and that the
bug only occurs if the samba shares are mounted with gio mount.
Therefore I suppose it is a gio bug.

Before installing a patched samba version in my system I would like to
know what has been done there. A patched samba can be quite a security
risk.

Hi Sergio Durigan jr.,

could you please tell us what has been changed in the samba 4.11.7
package in your PPA. It would be fine if I could know that before
installing your samba version in my system. I am surprised that you
could find the bug in samba and not in GIO/gvfs, for smbclient and
mount.cifs both work fine without any problems in the original samba
4.11.7, and files are not shown as folders there.

[Bug 1876308] [NEW] in GIO 2.64.2 (Ubuntu 20.04) smb file attributes corrupted

2020-05-01 Thread Max-Ulrich Farber
Public bug reported:

If the samba protocol is reduced to SMB-1 (option client max protocol =
NT1 in smb.conf), in all samba shares mounted with gio mount, the
mounting used by file managers like Nautilus or Thunar, ordinary files
are displayed as empty folders and therefore not usable. The problem
seems to be new in Ubuntu 20.04 (samba 4.11 and GIO 2.64.2) because it
did not exist in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (samba 4.7 and GIO 2.56.4).

In a shell opened by smbclient or in samba-shares mounted via
mount.cifs, in Ubuntu 20.02 all files are displayed correctly and
usable, even when the protocol is reduced to SMB-1 (client max protocol
= NT1 in smb.conf or mount-option vers 1.0). Therefore the problem seems
not to be a bug in samba 4.11 but one in the used GIO version.

[Bug 1812247] Re: ssh-askpass(-gnome) fails for ssh-add -c: agent refused operation

2019-07-02 Thread Ulrich Schwarz
My suspicion is that we never get as far as askpass – gnome-keyring-
daemon spawns a ssh-agent to pass requests on to (in my case, that's
easy to spot because I use PKCS#11 tokens and that's the one spawning
ssh-pkcs11-helpers), and that one doesn't have DISPLAY in its
environment, so it won't even try to obtain permission that way.

I'll see if I have enough foo to either force the ssh agents into debug
mode (readpass.c's read_passphrase() only logs at debug level) or
frobnicate their environment to have a DISPLAY, see if that fixes
things.

So Xubuntu 18.10 shor term release has got a working mouse driver again.
This is good to hear.

However we Xubuntu 18.04 LTS users absolutely need the mouse package to
be back-ported i.e. fixed also in 18.04 LTS, because it's a long term
support release and widely used. And this mouse driver bug is a show-
stopper: currently a fresh installation of Xubuntu 18.04.0 or 18.04.1
LTS for many users and machines is not being useable because the mouse
driver just doesn't work properly. How could anybody use a Xubuntu
installation with a working mouse (driver) ?

Please, Xubuntu developers reading this bug-report here, back-port the
mouse driver from Xubuntu 18.10 to Xubuntu 18.04 LTS. Like you did with
the back-then always crashing Thunar in 16.04 LTS until the Thunar fixes
got back-ported starting with Xubuntu 16.04.2 or so.

Thanks.

[Bug 1758023] Re: Mouse acceleration not configurable in Xubuntu 18.04

2018-04-12 Thread Ulrich von Augsburg
Thank you Sean for your explanation and for looking after Xubuntu 18.04
bugs here on Launchpad.

So you can't reproduce the mouse acceleration problem. This makes the
bug much harder to track down, if it only effects some people – or maybe
if it affects many people but some not. :-(

We have here in this report at least three people who're being affected.
Not to mention user "Cruxic" who opened the same bug report for Xubuntu
17.10 already in the end of last year and to which I link to in my #1
post above.

I can reproduce the mouse acceleration bug on two very different x86 machines
of mine, with totally different mice, and whenever I encounter the same bug on
these different machines, in most cases it's a real bug and no configuration
problem.
So how could we help to further pin down this nasty bug?

Furthermore, shall I open new bug reports for a few more bugs, i.e. is the
"Xubuntu" tag sufficient for you developers to find our bug reports?
(I would like to report another bug then: Xfce4's icon-bar exporter doesn't
work anymore, the save dialogue doesn't save anything.)

[Bug 1758023] Re: Mouse acceleration not configurable in Xubuntu 18.04

2018-04-12 Thread Ulrich von Augsburg
How do we make this bug aware to the Xubuntu team? Did I use the wrong
tags in the bug report?

Because the bug is a real showstopper and apparently already exists since
Xubuntu 17.10… ie since October 2017.
But hardly anybody notices it? How many Xubuntu users are still out there?

If its not fixed, all Xubuntu 18.04 LTS users will have to live with
non-configurable mouse speeds for 3+ years. That would be very bad.

And how do we make the Xubuntu team aware of other bugs? Like package
"gtk-theme-config" missing since some days, and it not having been
installed by default before.

[Bug 1758023] [NEW] Mouse acceleration not configurable in Xubuntu 18.04

2018-03-22 Thread Ulrich von Augsburg
Public bug reported:

1) Ubuntu Bionic Beaver (development branch), Release: 18.04

Fresh installation from Xubuntu 18.04 beta1 ISO, and "apt updated"
daily.

2) package: xfce4-settings 4.12.3-0ubuntu1

3) What to expected to happen?
Running the application "xfce4-mouse-settings" from the above package, changing
the sliders "acceleration" and "sensitivity" should change the mouse speed.

4) What happened instead?
The sliders have no effect, i.e. you change the mouse acceleration and
sensitivity sliders but both don't haven't any effect on the mouse.

Tested on several different machines with different mice. With Xubuntu 16.04
the xfce4-mouse-settings still work fine on the same machines.

While "xfce4-mouse-settings" doesn't work in Xubuntu 18.04 on these
machines, chaneing the mouse speed with GNOME's "gnome-control-center"
works fine on the same installation.

Maybe the bug is related to the new libinput system introduced in Ubuntu 18.04?

The terminal command:
mouse [accel] [threshold] [mouse default]
doesn't change the mouse speed in Xubuntu 18.04.

However the terminal command:;
xinput
does work in Xubuntu 18.04, but it only knows one parameter instead of the two
used by "xfce4-mouse-settings".

For example the following works for me:
xinput set-prop "PixArt USB Optical Mouse" "libinput Accel Speed" -0.6

[Bug 1441460] Re: [xubuntu] Failing to sleep after inactivity - power manager error?

2018-02-26 Thread Ulrich Norbisrath
I confirm this issue. I am running xubuntu 17.10. i.e. xfce with lightdm
on my thinkpad x230. None of the mentioned work-arounds works for me as
I don't want to give up locking the screen with a password. The policy
suggestions seem to have no affect (in addition to allowing me to select
suspend in xfce). I can suspend manually and also suspend when closing
the lid. But leaving my laptop sitting without power with a locked
screen will not suspend and drain the battery.

So, the agreed work-around is NOT to use lightdm if you want power
management and a password secured login? Would upgrading to bionic
beaver (18.04) make any difference?

[Bug 1746027] [NEW] Goodix driver doesn't load (new hardware GDIX1002)

2018-01-29 Thread Ulrich Schuetz
Public bug reported:

I have a Chuwi Tablet Hi13 with Goodix Touchscreen.

The goodix driver expects to find the touchscreen with "GDIX1001".
Apparently the touchscreen has been renamed to "GDIX1002". The driver
will not load and touchscreen doesn't even show with dmesg and xinput.

I have recompiled the driver and it now works again.

I believe this should be fixed permanentley.

[Bug 1700609] Re: Kernel Oops. GoodIX touchscreen not working

2018-01-19 Thread Ulrich Schuetz
I can confirm this behaviour for a Chuwi H13 Tablet with Kubuntu (Ubuntu
17.10). There are a couple of reports in the Chuwi forum, concerning
tablets recently delivered.

The touchscreen does not work after install, dmesg and xinput will not
show the device. Seems to be caused by a hardware change. I figuered
that the touchscreen was expecting to be bind to "GDIX1002" instead of
"GDIX1001".

I replaced the string in the gt9xx driver code, compiled and that was
it.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Ulrich

[Bug 1651433] [NEW] bluetooth mouse random disconnects

2016-12-20 Thread Richard Ulrich
Public bug reported:

I received the Dell XPS 13 DE (9350) accompanied by the WD15 docking station
last September. Ever since I used it with my Logitech MX Master bluetooth mouse.
This worked very well and reliably for September through November.
But Since about start of December, it disconnects frequently and without any
apparent reason.
I can get it back to order by disabling and re-enabling the bluetooth radio of
the notebook. After I re-enable the bt radio and move the mouse it work
immediately without any delay.
Sometimes it disconnects after 10 seconds. Sometimes I can work for 10 hours
without any disconnect.
For the entire lifetime the device has been running xenial. Currently I'm on
kernel Linux XPS13ulr 4.4.0-53-generic #74-Ubuntu SMP
Because the issue started happening at a certain date, I strongly believe that
it was caused by and upgrade, possibly kernel.

I wanted to see if the same disconnects also happen with other BT devices. But
for as long as I had the Jabra Halo 2 headset connected, also the mouse worked
reliably.
The mouse is my only BT LE device. Maybe that makes a difference.

[Bug 1199774] Re: No calDAV and iCalendar support

2016-11-14 Thread Richard Ulrich
Is there a date when to expect generic CalDav support?
I'm in the process of migrating DaviCal to a new server, and rather to go
through the syncevolution scripts, I would like much more to do the
configuration on the GUI.
Or is there a way to use the OwnCloud connector with DaviCal?

[Bug 733349] Re: Minimize Application's Windows upon clicking its Launcher Icon

2016-10-14 Thread Richard Ulrich
Fixed it for me with the help of
http://askubuntu.com/questions/36433/can-i-use-the-unity-launcher-icon-to-minimize-applications-windows#436542
But it's hard to understand that this is not the standard behavior like on
trisquel and even Windows.
Good luck hitting the minimize button with your finger on the touch screen of
the 4k XPS13.

[Bug 1577885] Re: 120sec delay during shutdown or reboot with still mounted cifs (via Wifi)

2016-05-25 Thread Max-Ulrich Farber
In https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/talk:NFS#NetworkManager-wait-
online I found a workaround that works for me (ArchLinux has been using
systemd for a long time already):

 * create a file /lib/systemd/system/auto_share.service with the following
contents:
 After=NetworkManager-wait-online.service
 Before=systemd-user-sessions.service

 * execute the following commands in a terminal:
 systemctl enable NetworkManager-wait-online
 systemctl reenable auto_share.service

Having done this once, booting and shutdown works fine, even with still
mounted cifs shares. It stays the same after system reboot.

Even if this workaround will work fine for everyone (?), this bug should
be fixed permanently anyhow!

2016-05-19 Thread Max-Ulrich Farber
Still an issue in 16.04 LTS! :(

This is utterly ridiculous. It's now been *eight years* and system-
config-samba still does not install properly under Ubuntu 16.04 LTS!

@zerofossifuel 's workaround worked on 16.04 too.
