a few weeks ago I have been able to build dkms nividia 340 kernel module for
mainline build 5.1.16.
Install NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-340.107 with kernel 5.0 and 5.1 patches from
https://pkgs.rpmfusion.org/cgit/nonfree/nvidia-340xx-kmod.git/log/ (I had to
fix one of the patches myself) with ubuntu's
Forgot to mention that the command
lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 vga
was the easiest way to see what display driver is running (nouveau or nvidia).
Other commands found on the internet, didn't work on my laptop.
(glxinfo also shows info but you have to scroll a lot)

I can confirm it is fixed in 5.1.15-050115-generic.
However, I can not use 5.1.15 because with its
linux-headers-5.1.15-050115-generic dkms can not build a module for nvidia-340
(see further below for the error output).
I switched to nouveau and with that driver I could reach with
also not fixed in 5.0.17. ( https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v5.0.17/ )

oops sorry. Typing compiz-decorator in a terminal and closing that terminal
is not the way to do it because the command exits also when you close the
terminal.
The correct way is running Alt+F2 and typing compiz-decorator.

I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 and installed synergy-plus-1.3.4. It
works ok now.
I only have layout Belgium in my Layouts.
When I do an upgrade to the next Ubuntu I'll hope the bug won't reappear. If it
does I'll file a new bug report.

Gnome. Is a backtrace possible on a program that is already frozen? I thought a
backtrace only shows debugging code that happens after you run gdb.

I have found the wiki part ask GDB to attach to a program that's already
running.
But gnome-panel is already frozen right after logging in. If I kill gnome-panel
it respawns automatically and runs fine from then on.
But the first run when I log in Gnome is the one that freezes. How do
