bug exists in kubuntu 14.04.4 also.
the last version that worked properly was 12.04 alternate - ie server,
which isn't an option anymore. it seems to get lost when the dialog for
the passwords should pop up and then can't recover.

The progress since Alpha 3 seems to have fixed it for me.
I booted the 4/26 amd64 liveCD, and the monitor maintained the signal
during the boot, and then I installed the amd64 alternate from 4/22 and
that also came up fine during the boot and passphrase screens.

I tested the i386 livecd on a laptop with intel graphics, and the
'ubuntu' splash screen came up [using a Lucid kubuntu cd] and kde
started, without any apparent hiccups with the video.
I then did an install, and the splash screen again showed up, followed
by kde.

I just tried the i386 LiveCD of Kubuntu 10.04 alpha 3.
Starting with a normal livecd boot, the 'ubuntu' splash screen shows up
without any loss of signal to the monitor. After a while, there is a
small transition where the monitor goes out of frequency, possibly due

My bug report #528225 would fall under this same bug.
I reinstalled Lucid Alpha 3 using the alternate CD, and grub install,
os detection, and update-grub all worked flawlessly on the same hardware
where blkid hung before with the desktop ubiquity install.
/dev/sda2 is the extended partition
I just purchased one of the new Green WD 500GB drives.
This is a desktop, 3.5 SATA drive.
It is the first desktop drive that I found which monitors 193 Load /
Unload cycles.
After less than a week of use, I am already up to over 5500 load cycles.
I can hear it clicking as well, once or twice
I wonder if this is related to a problem in the System Menu.
I have a quick link to the System Menu in the toolbar, and when I click
on that and then on anything not relating to the current user [the
Storage Media, Remote Places, User's Folders] there is a KIOExec error
also.
The error is
I have a system with no floppy, and with the floppy turned off in BIOS.
However, I do have a media card reader, and I don't know if that looks like the
floppy to the installer, but I get the same problem. It happened in Feisty,
Gutsy and now with the Alpha 3 of Hardy Kubuntu. It starts fine,

Looking at the dmesg file from the last boot, I did see that the floppy
controller was still being enabled.
I dug a bit deeper into the BIOS and discovered another setting. This
one was for the FDC, and it was enabled. I disabled that, and then
rebooted with the liveCD for Kubuntu
