[Bug 222770] Re: HARDY: Show stopper bug: Blank screen only with cursor

2008-04-27 Thread webjames
Hello, after some searching i have found this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/218434

is seems to be exactly what i am experiencing. can i refer you to that
as it is still in effect in the release of hardy and experienced by
quite a few people. can i add i don't believe it to be because of flash
based hardware.

many thanks

[Bug 218434] Re: gnome-keyring-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV

2008-04-27 Thread webjames
I am getting the same problem. I do not use any flash based storage. I
have installed the hardy release the live cd boots up fine, i install,
restart log in then I'm confronted with the same problem of the original
bug post.

I did a clean install with a burned ISO of final release of hardy, not
beta or rc. This bug is still present in the release version.

I use two hardware raid arrays. one to store /, swap and one to store
/home. My controller is: Adaptec 2610sa

I have been using this card since feisty, perhaps before.
A solution would be nice as i'm having to use the live cd at the moment.

[Bug 218434] Re: gnome-keyring-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV

2008-04-27 Thread webjames
SUMMARY

Hardware Affected
It seems to me, some people using eee pc's, adaptec raid cards models 2410sa
and 2610sa, usb drives.

IDE drives seem unaffected, thanks doobydave.

Two possible solutions have been found, perhaps someone could test them:
1. Grugnog suggest
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-keyring/+bug/218434/comments/8
2. bbauto suggests this
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-keyring/+bug/218434/comments/32
this is also found in bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221850

perhaps if users are tracking this bug, they could report what hardware
they are running hardy on. esp. if it similar to what is mentioned
above.

[Bug 222770] [NEW] HARDY: Show stopper bug: Blank screen only with cursor

2008-04-26 Thread webjames
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-desktop

I downloaded the new Ubuntu release hardy. did a clean install,
preserving my home dir.

The live Cd boots and load okay. then i install, try and log in and i'm
confronted with a blank screen with only my cursor.

i have tried deleting the .gnome(2) settings folders but this doesn't
help. i can find no information on why it is hanging like this. as i
said earlier it is a blank orange screen with my mouse cursor which i
can move around. i can use the terminals tty1-tty6. please help. this is
the release of hardy i don't know what to do.

[Bug 187383] Re: System monitor causes Xorg to consume 100% CPU

2008-04-06 Thread webjames
Hi, i have the same problem

please take a look at the screen shot i have taken, the lettering has
been replaced by strange symbols, and as other people my cpu usage goes
to 100%, another note the graphs seems distorted.

hope this helps. i have a P4 3.20 ghz, with hyper-threading turned off,
when turned on comes up as two cores, but that's another problem!

[Bug 194832] [NEW] network traffic pulsing

2008-03-07 Thread webjames
Public bug reported:

I am having problems with my network, i believe this is a bug. I have a
laptop (ThinkPad T41) connected at 1000 Mb/s with a gigabit switch with
all Cat6 to my desktop with hardware raid, with a gigabit network card
in, connected at 1000 Mb/s. However when copying file i get a maximum of
6 -9 mb/s with it averaging around 3. This is really poor for a gigabit
network.

Here is some more information about my network hardware and software:

Router
Hardware: Buffalo WHR-G54S
Firmware: Tomato 1.16

Switch: 3com Gigabit Switch 8

Cabling: All Cat6

Here is some information from some commands: (I am running Hardy,
although i only upgraded yesterday to see if it would fix the problem,
however it does not, i was experiencing the same problems with Gutsy.)

[Bug 194832] Re: network traffic pulsing

2008-02-24 Thread webjames
okay, compiling the new e1000 driver seemed to do the job, i now get
40mbs, no pulsing, and would get more speed i guess if my other nic card
wasn't limited to a mtu of 7000.

See below for more details:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/e1000/

The e1000 version: 7.6.15.4 module should be included in Hardy.

[Bug 194832] Re: network traffic pulsing

2008-02-24 Thread webjames
UPDATE:
The previous post did work, and has set my mtu. however i am still experiencing
the pulsing and slow speeds.

The screen shot shows what i am talking about:
The high speed activity it over HTTP and the lower speed is over samba (SMB) as
you can see both signals are pulsing. Although setting the correct MTU has
speed things up it still hasn't solved the pulsing problem. compiling the
latest driver doesn't seem to do anything. ignore my post about the updated
e1000 driver.

[Bug 83178] Re: [feisty] nm-applet claims wired connection when its wireless

2007-09-14 Thread webjames
I can confirm with the latest gutsy with all upgrades as of 14th Sept
wireless works but is reported as a wired network by nm-applet, this
wasn't the case before recent updates.

wireless card is Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212 802.11abg NIC (rev
01)

[Bug 127335] Re: backlight on Lenovo 3000 C200 can't be set to maximum again

2007-09-08 Thread webjames
I have a thinkpad T41, and have the same issue as described above.
EXCEPT when i turn backlight down from 5 goes straight to 1, then can
change it between 1 and 2, but no further.

the gnome-power-manager slider works but only if i drag it to minimum
then up to maximum. this can only be a temporary solution though. I
would guess this issue might effect more laptop than these.

[Bug 39326] Re: installer: dm-crypt support missing

2007-08-06 Thread webjames
i don't believe it is because of lack of interest; more that people just
haven't started anything yet. debian has the feature of encryption on the
installer, and it works very well. i have followed this howto:
(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FeistyEncryptedRootWithInstaller) and now
have encryption on my laptop, it can't be that difficult to implement, i guess
we just need to stir up some interest and attention.
perhaps someone could alert the mailing list?

[Bug 39326] Re: installer: dm-crypt support missing

2007-08-03 Thread webjames
Well dm-crypt is still missing from the installer in Feisty, and seems
to be missing in Gutsy i can see not plans to include it in the upcoming
Gutsy. Perhaps if we make the need for encryption better known?

[Bug 99933] Re: enable desktop effects crashes system

2007-05-05 Thread webjames
Hello,
I am having exactly the same problem,i know that i do need to restricted
drivers, and a know that they are enabled and working (i have run glxgears
-info) and i get ~4000fps with my Nvidia 6600.

however when i click restricted driver management it tells me:

your hardware does not need any restricted drivers

This is blatantly not true. i think it might have something to do with
the direct rendering:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ xdriinfo
Xlib: extension XFree86-DRI missing on display :0.0.
Screen 0: not direct rendering capable.

hope this helps,
