Re: [Bug 418399] Re: X out of window doesn't close Firefox.
Sorry, I haven't been able to reproduce it. I was hoping that there was useful information in the bug report that would help you see what went wrong. Given that it was the window control, I'm not sure if this is firefox directly or something to do with the gnu under it. Re: [Bug 384044] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 live CD crashes on boot
Thanks for working through this with me! Andy Whitcroft wrote: On Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 02:24:22AM -, webservant wrote: Adding that to the boot gives me a functioning Live CD system! This old PC has some slight memory issues which may be triggering this problem. If I run memtest86, I get about 400 errors. However, if I try to replace any of the SDRAM, I get upwards of 48,000 errors. I believe the memory controller on the motherboard is starting to go. The fix is a replacement of the motherboard (around $50-75), but why would I do that for an AMD 850 with 384Mb of memory? I'm just trying to buy a little more time. The 8.10 systems never complain of and it all seems to work. So, I guess that I'll re-upgrade this partitions, and add this to the boot of menu.lst Is there anything else that would help you understand / resolve the issue, or is this the resolution? Essentially here we have a new check for the BIOS corrupting low memory. Intrepid did not have this check so would never have failed in this way. This failure most likely indicates that you BIOS has a flaw, but it is unlikely to be worth trying to figure out the flaw and you are even less likely to get support for the BIOS. As the option is working for you I would call this one fixed as much as it can be. I will close this one off 'Fixed'. -apw -- Ubuntu 9.04 live CD crashes on boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/384044 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 384044] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 live CD crashes on boot
Adding that to the boot gives me a functioning Live CD system! Doug Andy Whitcroft wrote: It seems that this can be turned off using a kernel parameter. It would be worth booting with the option below and seeing if that makes a difference. Re: [Bug 384044] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 live CD crashes on boot
Fair enough, but realize that the the hardware currently triple-boots (Windows XP, Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop, and Ubuntu 8.10 Server). So, whatever is different in 9.04 isn't a problem in 8.10. If you need anymore information/testing, let me know. Thanks for the guidance, and happy hunting. [Bug 384044] [NEW] Ubuntu 9.04 live CD crashes on boot
Public bug reported: I'm working on an HP Pavillion 8770C with an AMD Athlon 850 MHz processor and the Irongate chipset. Previously, I attempted an upgrade of Ubuntu 8.10 Server to 9.04 Server, and got this same error which caused me to restore the partitions and back out. This time, I just booted from the Ubuntu 9.04 Desktop i386 Live CD. The system starts to boot, and then displays the following: BUG: Int 14: CR2 c100 EDI c100 ESI EBP c0731f50 ESP c0731f14 EBX ff78f000 EDX 000e ECX 3fc04000 EAX err 0002 EIP c073e30d CS 0060 flg 00010016 Stack: ff78f000 0001 0002 00881000 ff78f000 c0731fc4 c073ec52 c0731f76 0004 0086 000f 00a7 205b 30202020 3030302e c0731fd8 ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Ubuntu 9.04 live CD crashes on boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/384044 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 384044] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 live CD crashes on boot
On the computer documented in the bug, I get the exact same error as when I attempt to boot the live cd. This is the same error that I receive when I upgraded my server patition on this hardware via a network upgrade. However, on a different system Dell Dimension 2350 with a P4 2.60 GHz cpu, I have successfully booted this exact Live CD and upgraded subsequently upgraded (with an alternative CD). OK. I followed the instructions, removing quiet and splash and adding debug= to the boot line. I received the same dump message almost immediately (nothing else).
