[Bug 1971567] Re: TPM breaks resume from suspend

2022-05-22 Thread zob
I see a similar issue on Lenovo Thinkpad P50. If TPM/Security Chip is on
in BIOS, I cannot turn off the computer in the normal way. I seems to
shot down and screen becomes black, but it is still running (hot) and
power led is on. I can then turn if off by pressing power button for 5
seconds. I didn't see this issue before upgrading from 20.04 to 22.04.

Thanks Nikolay. I'm not sure that what you link to is related. That
sounds much worse. My PC wasn't bricked. I just couldn't use the
touchpad if I also chose to install the Nvidia driver.

Ok. So I finally found a viable workaround (or fix). In BIOS the GPU
must be set to "Hybrid Graphics" NOT "Discrete".

This fixed my issues with running nvdia-drivers and using my touchpad at
the same time in ubuntu 20.04.

[Bug 1826597] Re: Synaptic touchpad not responding in ubuntu 19.04 when using nvidia drivers

2020-04-12 Thread zob
Ahh. Actually xinput now (with kubuntu-desktop installed) now has
registered my touchpad as a standard mouse it seems (I don't have
multitouch functionality, so no two-finger scrolling, etc).

$ xinput list

[Bug 1826597] Re: Synaptic touchpad not responding in ubuntu 19.04 when using nvidia drivers

2020-04-12 Thread zob
I though I might experiment a little. I installed xubuntu-desktop with the
lightdm display manager. Didn't work either. Then I installed kubuntu-desktop
with sddm display manger and the suddenly my touchpad started working.
I then did a dpkg-reconfigure gdm3, rebooted and logged back into the
"standard" gnome session. And now my touchpad is working with the Nvidia
drivers installed and working. I have no clue why but, to resume, there are 2
workarounds:
1: use nouveau drivers instead of nvidia
2: install kubuntu-desktop (and log into ubuntu-desktop or whatever floats your
boat).

This also indicates that it's "just" a config issue somewhere.

[Bug 1868474] Re: Lenovo ThinkPad P73 touchpad does not work *after* installation

2020-04-12 Thread zob
Hi D.

Can you try uninstalling the nvidia-drivers from the "Additional
Drivers" interface, just by choosing the nouveau drivers. Then reboot.
Does the touchpad work now?

Then you might have a similar issue as I do on the P50:

I just tested installing the Nvidia binaries directly from the web-site. That
did not fix the issue with the non-functional touchpad either.
That was the driver version 440.82

2020-04-12 Thread zob
Yes. This is still an issue on the P50, same machine as above.
Now on kernel: 5.4.0-21-generic
xserver-xorg-input-libinput v. 0.29.0-1

And I've tested with the 3 different Nvidia drivers listed in the additional
drivers interface.
That would be nvidia-drivers:
440.64-0ubuntu3
435.21-0ubuntu7
390.132-0ubuntu2

As before, touchpad and trackpoint work just fine with noveau drivers
and mesa.

If you have this error @Simon and @Nikolay, please choose the "This bug

[Bug 1826597] Re: Synaptic touchpad not responding in ubuntu 19.04 when using nvidia drivers

2019-04-27 Thread zob
I just tested against the mainline kernel: 5.1.0-050100rc6-generic
#201904211830 SMP Sun Apr 21 18:33:49 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64
GNU/Linux

This didn't work - or rather there was an error building with dkms and
nvidia (so actually it works, but that's because I'm back on noveau
drivers, which also work on the standard kernel).

I've attached the make.log.

[Bug 1826597] [NEW] Synaptic touchpad not responding in ubuntu 19.04 when using nvidia drivers

2019-04-26 Thread zob
Public bug reported:

On a Lenovo Thinkpad P50 with a Synaptics touchpad, the touchpad (or
trackpoint), does not respond to any input after installing ubuntu 19.04.

The same machine has been working fine with ubuntu 16.04 and 18.10. To
be more correct it is still working in 16.04 hwe which I'm dual booting.

If I uninstall the nvidia drivers (right now 418.56-0ubuntu1), and
replace with noveau drivers it works just fine (by the way there seems
to be no other issues with the nvidia driver as of yet).

I have also the nvidia-driver-390 also suggested in the graphical
software updates tool, to no avail.

I will attach relevant logs. Please let me know if there is more I should
supply.
And thanks for all your hard (and brilliant) work.

[Bug 1767388] [NEW] Sometimes cannot login to graphical environment.

2018-04-27 Thread zob
Public bug reported:

On 18.04
gdm3 3.28.0-0ubuntu1
4.15.0-20-generic

I suspect it is related to gdm3, but not sure.
On freshly installed final release of bionic, I somtimes cannot login to gnome
desktop. It is always preceeded by failed login attempt even though password is
correct.

I can switch to a virtual console, but nothing happens when trying to
switch back to graphical CTRL+ALT+F7 - stays in console.

It seems that sudo /etc/init.d/gdm3 restart might fix the problem, but I
havn't tested extensively yet.

Note also that when the problem occurs there is no XDG_SESSION choices
available on the login screen. The "settings" icon next to the login
button is gone. After this an attempt to login with correct password
will fail, and the second attempt to login with take me to the blank
screen + cursor situation described above.

I can't say how to reproduce. On my machine it happens 50% of the times.

[Bug 1509305] [NEW] Kernel not upgraded during upgrade from Vivid to Wily

2015-10-23 Thread zob
Public bug reported:

Could someone confirm if this is a duplicate of bug nr. 1508157

I have the exact same issue and precondition to my knowledge.

I too had nvidia propiertary drivers installed:
nvidia-settings -q NvidiaDriverVersion

  Attribute 'NvidiaDriverVersion' (ubu1504desk:0.0): 352.41
  Attribute 'NvidiaDriverVersion' (ubu1504desk:0[gpu:0]): 352.41

Upgrading from Vivid -> Wily the package linux-image-generic seem to get
uninstalled. I end up with a kernel beeing the same as the one I had just
before the upgrade ("ingen" is danish for "none" - should have changed the
language):

apt-cache policy linux-image-generic
linux-image-generic:
  Installeret: (ingen)
  Kandidat:4.2.0.16.18
  Versionstabel:
 4.2.0.16.18 0

cat /etc/issue && uname -a

UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I have to add that when I ran ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core to report
this bug I had installed the package linux-image-generic in the meantime. So
you will see that I'm on that kernel now, but I had to install it manually.

[Bug 1509305] Re: Kernel not upgraded during upgrade from Vivid to Wily if linux-generic not installed

2015-10-23 Thread zob
Of course, it could be argued, that ubuntu-release-upgrader should double check
if linux-image-generic is installed.
It is kind of essential, but maybe it should be possible to upgrade without
getting the latest kernel?

[Bug 1371834] Re: Chrome causes segfault in i965_dri.so

2014-11-08 Thread zob
Ok. Just tested quite a few kernels.
Chrome 38+ does not segfault when browsing to chrome webshop with the following:
linux-image-3.16.0-031600-generic
linux-image-3.16.1-031601-generic
linux-image-3.16.7-031607-generic
linux-image-3.17.1-031701-generic
linux-image-3.18.0-031800rc2-generic

Chrome 38+ segfaults when browsing to chrome webshop with the following:
linux-image-3.15.10-031510-generic
linux-image-3.13.0-39-generic
linux-image-3.13.0-32-generic
and with every other kernel that I have tested with a version number lower than
that.

Now someone can probably say something more intelligent about when it
was patched. I'm just a trial and error kind of guy.

NB: Chrome 37 and older does not crash with any of these kernels when
browsing to chrome webshop.

[Bug 1029703] Re: gnome-language-selector crashed with dbus.exceptions.DBusException in call_blocking(): org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: Method SetFormatsLocale is not implemented on interfa

2014-07-31 Thread zob
I don't know. I just had this problem on ubuntu 14.04.1, accountservice
0.6.35-0ubuntu7.1.
At least that is what the autogenerated crash report stated (that it was a
duplicate of this bug).
I only happens when opening language support, choosing Regional formats, and
then when trying to select a different style for Display numbers, dates and
currency amount in the usual format for:
I my case I was trying to choose the combo English (Danish).

I take that the autogenerated crash report automatically gets related to
this launchpad report, given that this launchpad report is part of the
info created in the crash report.

Hi Gunnar.
I think, strangely, I solved this by installing auth-client-config
It is a LDAP authenticated machine, and I was missing some admin-rights for
some reason.

I get this error on ubuntu server 14.04 when I log in (without doing anything
else). It's written just above the Last Login Welcome to Ubuntu Trusty -
message.
Below the Welcome message there is another error written.
error: config file /etc/landscape/client.conf can't be read
run-parts: /etc/update-motd.d/50-landscape-sysinfo exited with return code 1.

(I didn't choose landscape to handle updates during the install).

Happens on two different machines. One is virtual, the other is not.

[Bug 1210845] Re: gcstar crashed with SIGSEGV in IA__gtk_container_foreach()

2013-10-26 Thread zob
No, I'm trying but it seems I can't. In the meantime 13.10 has become
stable and gcstar version bumped to 1.7.0-0ubuntu1 and kernel is now
3.11.0-12

There is still a bug related to movie search but it is of quite a
different nature and will requiere a new bug report. (Now it has to do
with the dialog that shows up if there were more hits than one from the
same web-service. In this dialog movies show up as empty fields, but
they are in fact not empty when picked).

But this bug can probably be closed.

This was fixed 2-3 days ago with 13.10 updates. However, I don't think I
have to authority to close this ticket.

Restart was removed from system-menu. Clicking shutdown reveals the
choice to either restart or shut down. That makes sense.

[Bug 1193139] [NEW] Strange menu entries in software-center in saucy.

2013-06-20 Thread zob
Public bug reported:

This is probably an easy fix, and maybe not even necesary to report a
bug on. You're welcome to inform me if that is the case.

However:
Software-center 13.05-0ubuntu1 in saucy has some strange menu entries.

For instance in the edit menu there are all kinds of gtk-undo, gtk-redo,
gtk-copy, gtk-delete. Probably originating in some kind of
template of how a gtk edit menu should look, but those entries should probably
be removed in software-center.

Thank you Bryan.
You were right. We were lucky this time. Removing the configuration files
solved it. Should I change this bug-report to Invalid?

[Bug 1163558] Re: libreoffice-writer close, minimize and maximize buttons not showing

2013-04-09 Thread zob
Great. Thanks again.
I don't think I can recreate what caused the bad config. Mainly because, I
can't recall having even opened libreoffice before on this install, much less
having changed the config.
If the bad config should return, I shall be more thorough in my examination.
Thanks.

[Bug 1163558] [NEW] libreoffice-writer close, minimize and maximize buttons not showing

2013-04-02 Thread zob
Public bug reported:

Running 13.04 in virtualbox.
Problem is that the close, minimize and maximize buttons do not show up in
libreoffice-writer, nor does it react as expected when dragging the top bar. I
can't drag it anywhere, can't drag to maximize or drag to minimize. In fact, I
can't drag it at all.
The strange thing is that all of this works in libreoffice-impress and
libreoffice-calc.

I used ubuntu-bug libreoffice-writer to report, so I hope most of the
additional details you need was attached automagically. Otherwise please
let me know.

Hi Toby.
Thanks for following up. I'm still on the same version of musescore, but 12.10
is not beta any more. I don't get the crashes anymore. Don't know, could have
been a 12.10 beta thing.

Sorry Christopher.
I was trying to give you as much information as possible to work with.
So best practice with crash files is always to make a separate bug report,
unless I am the OP, is that it?
Thanks again.

Public bug reported:

In ubuntu 12.04, 64bit, Klavaro 1.93 from repos. Danish language
exercises and keyboard layout.

Reproduce bug.
Do a fluidness exercise. Write a few correct words, now make a few errors,
let's say four. Then backspace accindentally five times. Now you can't find
back to the right place. Wherever and whatever you write you just get red
letters (errors). Or at least so do I.

Please tell me if there is anything else I can do to help you test this

[Bug 527938] Re: Writer crashes on Tools-Bibliography without libreoffice-base

2012-03-26 Thread zob
I can still make it crash in ubuntu 12.04 beta i386, with libreoffice
1:3.5.1-1ubuntu1.
To reproduce: try to make bibliography.
Only difference from the old crash is that the old crash happened instantly.
This time it hangs for a while (greyed out) and then crashes.

I wanted to copy-paste from the ubuntu-bug report, but that doesn't seem to be
possible.
I doesn't allow me to file a new bug, because it's already here.

stevr1it, if you're just looking for a fix, it's easy:
sudo apt-get install libreoffice-base

Problem gone!
It's written all over this thread btw.

[Bug 527938] Re: [upstream] Open office crashes when trying to set up Bibliography Database

2011-06-05 Thread zob
Confirmed for libreoffice 3.3.2 on ubuntu 11.04. (I know this thread is about
OO, but as it has nothing to do with the application, only with the packaging,
I will mention it here).
Crashes because libreoffice-base is not installed by default.
I think that either libreoffice-base should be installed by default (if there
is space on the CD) or the option to select bibliography database should be
grayed out.

If you follow this solution, remember to lock the package with your
package manager of choice. Otherwise it will update to the ubuntu
package which is more recent - and unfortunately broken.

[Bug 723276] Re: /usr/bin/hdspmixer is missing

2011-05-12 Thread zob
I can confirm the but in the ubuntu 11.04 package build.

Everything seems to be fine, modules loaded and stuff. But I can't find the
hdspmixer.
Normally it's included in the alsa-tools and alsa-tools-gui packages. And
actually the mixer GUI does get an entry in the menu. But there is no command
for it to execute. It is supposed to run hdspmixer - but it's not there.
If I write hdsp and try to autocomplete with tab in the terminal, I can now
only se hdsploader and hdspconf (both seem to run just fine btw.).

[Bug 633188] Re: network-manager doesn't recognize wireless networking hardware randomly

2010-09-28 Thread zob
Ok. So we have the same problem, software-versions, and network-adator, but it
seems we have different symptoms.
I get a practically non-working connection when signal-strength drops below
around 80%. Maybe it's not the same problem after all.

[Bug 647650] Re: Atheros AR5001 WiFi continues not to function

2010-09-27 Thread zob
This, unfortunately, is true for maverick beta as well. (eeepc 702, with
atheros ar5001 card).
Works ok with 100% signal but when signal drops below 80% network traffic stops
or connection simply drops.
The earlier report unfortunately expired. But info is available here:

[Bug 633188] Re: network-manager doesn't recognize wireless networking hardware randomly

2010-09-27 Thread zob
My experience with the ar5001 is that connection has a tendency to drop
when wifi-signal-strength gets below approximately 80%. Do you have the
same experience?

By the way. It is not fixed in 10.10 beta.

[Bug 647650] Re: Atheros AR5001 WiFi continues not to function

2010-09-27 Thread zob
Sorry. Forget what I just said about the later version of network
manager. The version in maverick beta that I tested IS already version
0.8.1, so that doesn't seem to fix anything.

In the meantime I also tried substituting network-manager for wicd.
Changing to wicd unfortunately doesn't solve the problem. I still can't
get a usable connection when signal-strength drops belows approximately
100%. (I've tried to change freq. channel in my router, as well as
disabling encryption - nothing helps).

I can still make it drop out even with the workaround, but I have to really
