[Bug 1813075] [NEW] Line Out audio output rapidly disapears and reappears
Public bug reported: Today my audio became choppy. At first I thought it was a bad audio file, but it turned out that everything I play is choppy. Then I thought that some process is clogging the CPU or IO, but it wasn't that either. After some searching, I opened sound settings and found out that Line Out audio output is rapidly disappearing and reappearing from the list. I checked the alsamixer and same thing was happening in its window. I tried to restart the computer, and the problem disappeared only to come back again after a short time. I still have my old 14.04 installation, I rebooted to that and everything worked as it should. I have never seen anything like this, I have no clue what is happening and I have no idea what to check. dmesg output showed nothing related to sound. [Bug 1208993] Re: Ubuntu slows down and hangs while copying file from/to USB
I'm not using nautilus, but I'm still affected. I'm having a system slowdown even when copying files over 10Mbit network, so it may be not just USB related. Generally, when some I/O is at its full capacity (being that slow USB 2.0 or slow 10Mbit network transfer), the whole I/O of the OS comes to a crawl. For example, if I copy a 1GB file over 10Mbit network, until that copying is finished, everything disk-related is slowed down (stating of programs, opening files). I have 3 hard drives in my computer, if I copy something from second to third (OS is installed on first), starting programs is still slowed down, although drive holding the OS and programs isn't participating in file copying. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1208993 Title: Ubuntu slows down and hangs while copying file from/to USB To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1208993/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1453746] [NEW] After a couple of minutes of use, x11vnc doesn't accept non-english keys
Public bug reported: When I was using Ubuntu 12.04, I often used x11vnc on one of my work machines for remote access, mostly for handling internal e-mails. As I live in Serbia, I use local keyboard layout with letters like šđč枊ĐČĆŽ. Since I upgraded that machine to 14.04 (and also my home machine from where I use vnc viewer), something got corrupted with keystrokes handling. After a few minutes of use (usually less than 10), first happens that I need to press local letter two or three times to be recognised as keystroke on remote machine, and soon after that, any key press with local letters simply isn't recognised, like I didn't press anything. The only solution I found so far is to close vnc viewer and to connect again. All the other keys on keyboard work as expected. I have tried several vnc viewer programs, the same thing happens with all of them. I also tried a few vnc viewer programs from old 13.10 installation (that worked perfectly with x11vnc from 12.04), same thing, so I guess that there is something with x11vnc, not with viewers. I also tried tinkering with various x11vnc options, but without any result. Any ideas what should I check or try? [Bug 1208993] Re: Ubuntu slows down and hangs while copying file from/to USB
Tried that a while ago, it made working with already open applications and playing music OK (it stopped stuttering while copying), but if I copy something large and want, for example, to start a terminal window, I can click on terminal icon, but the window won't be shown until copying is finished. I mean, how much disk activity is needed for opening terminal window? I have 3 harddisks in my machine. Let's say that OS is on HD1. The same problem with starting terminal occurs even if I start copying from HD2 to HD3, so I guess it has nothing to do with HD speed and/or caching. And this is not only Nautilus problem (at least for me). Same thing happens if I copy/unpack from command line, or Double Commander (unpackig large archives does the same thing). Generally, every time some process has a lot of work with hard drive (it doesn't need to be an USB HD, that makes things just more sluggish), my computer is noticeably less usable until HD work is finished. I think that something is wrong with the way I/O operations are scheduled, as some processes can take all the machine's disk I/O resources for themselves, leaving absolutely nothing for others.
[Bug 1417726] Re: After resumnig from sleep, playing videos doesn't work
I found a fix for network and sound card. There have been several kernel updates in the past week or two, but all things combined gave nothing to initial problem. After resume from suspend, videos often show just black, with sound playing (using xv output). gl output gives picture but it flickers all the time between video picture and black screen. This is the same for mplayer, totem and vlc. The only video output that usually work when all do not is x11 without xv. Additionally, when this starts to happen, Google Chrome browser window is flickering like mad, and becomes unusable. The same happens with Steam client. The only solution so far is to restart X (either logout/login or restart computer). But this defeats the purpose of going to sleep... ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1417726 Title: After resumnig from sleep, playing videos doesn't work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1417726/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1417726] Re: After resumnig from sleep, playing videos doesn't work
Besides fancier icons in BIOS, the only visible change is that wired network card isn't working after wake-up. I tried a couple of times, same thing (ifconfig lists only lo after wake-up). Also, now, trying logout and login after that locks up the system (at least I can Ctrl+Alt+Del from terminal). As this is much worse problem than being unable to play videos (at least, for me), I'll try to revert BIOS to previous version. Also, most of my video material is on a network storage, so non-working network card can't be a solution. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1417726 Title: After resumnig from sleep, playing videos doesn't work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1417726/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1417726] [NEW] After resumnig from sleep, playing videos doesn't work
Public bug reported: This started a few weeks ago, after some update I guess. When my machine resumes from sleep, if I try to play video in any player I have installed (vlc, smplayer, totem), all I get for a picture is a black screen. Sound is going, just there is no picture. I can get very flickering and unwatchable picture if I choose some OpenGL-based renderer (in smplayer). Sometimes, if I turn on or off second monitor, playing works for a while. The only way to enable playback is to restart X (logout/login or computer restart), which is geting quite tiresome because I need to close all my programs and open them again. I'm not sure if this is xorg, Unity or driver bug, but it really bugs me. [Bug 1208993] Re: Ubuntu slows down and hangs while copying file from/to USB
As time goes by, my 14.04 64bit instalation performs worse and worse when doing anything with USB discs (flash or HD, doesn't matter). If I start to copy a big file from/to flash USB, started programs usually work to a degree (if they don't require access to HD), but if I try to start something simple, like a terminal, during this, it will be started AFTER the copying was finished. Similar thing happens when copying from/to USB HD, only not as severe as with Flash USB discs (the system is somewhat less laggy). This is something that was frequent in my win xp days and after I switched to Linux in 2005 I tought that something like this is waaay behind me. Now, newer versions of Ubuntu are again showing me the joys of system lockup while working with USB discs.
[Bug 1301623] Re: unity freezes when moving windows among workspaces
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 815996 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/815996 I can confirm that Unity gets stuck in Expo mode when I try to move a window from one screen to another (I have a dual monitor setup). I have 14.04 64bit on a desktop machine. Every time in last couple of years when I installed a new version of Ubuntu, I gave a chance to Unity to be my main desktop. Although I like how they imagined for it to work, it's the bugs like these that eventually, after a week or couple of weeks, made me switch to something else, less attractive but also less buggy (you can find my error reports for Unity since first versions of it as default desktop and see how long it took to fix some of these). [Bug 1268848] [NEW] Unity in 13.10 unstable with Radeon 7950
Public bug reported: About a month ago I installed a fresh Ubuntu 13.10 64bit on a i5 machine, 8GB RAM, with Radeon 7950 graphic card. Before this, I was running 12.04 64bit without any graphic driver related problems. I tried both Catalyst versions from official repository, latest 13.12 drivers from AMD site and open source drivers (radeon), and I can't tell which one was more unstable. After a few hours of use, I could not play any videos with any of the drivers (tried mplayer and VLC, both crashed with various errors), OpenGL isn't working anymore (even glxgears was crashing) and I had various artifacts on screen (like parts of window rendered on the wrong place on screen). Putting machine to sleep and waking it up later produced even more errors. I also tried to turn off various things in CCSM, without any positive results. Steam client had terrible flickering almost all the time, it was practically unusable; also about 8 of 10 times it was crashing on startup. After about two weeks of trying to make it usable, I gave up and installed MATE desktop. Not a single graphic error since then. Steam works flawlessly, 3D games also, Wine games, playing videos, everything. I kind of like how Unity works, I was using it for the last two years as my main desktop (on the same machine), but this behaviour is unexpected and utterly undesireable. [Bug 1071739] Re: Unable to mount Blank DVD-R Disc
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1069964 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1069964 I have the same bug in 13.10 64bit, using Unity. After many troubles with it and catalyst drivers, I finally decided to install MATE, this solved all my graphic problems, but this error remained. I'm burning all my DVDs with K3b, and every time I insert a blank DVD, there is a window that pops up saying unable to mount blank dvd. Clicking on OK, everything works, but after burning some 7-8 DVDs it really goes on my nerve (I sometimes forgot to close them, and they are scattered all over my workspaces, depending on where I was when I inserted blank DVD). I can turn them off by unticking automount in dconf-editor (for nautilus/caja), that solves the problem, but then my external hard/flash disks won't automount, which is unacceptable (I despise windows explorer/nautilus/caja/etc file managers, my choice for a long time is commander-style file manager, currently double commander). And without automount option, every time I attach a device, I need to start nautilus/caja to mount it. Yes, I know there are other ways for this, but this was such a no-brainer for a long time, why go back? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1071739 Title: Unable to mount Blank DVD-R Disc To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1071739/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1258904] [NEW] deja-dup-monitor freezes the computer
Public bug reported: After a fresh install of 13.10, a few minutes after using it (I opened several programs), system became very unresponsive, to the point that mouse cursor was almost frozen on screen (it would move a few seconds after I move the mouse), and doing anything with computer was almost impossible. At the same time, I noticed that something is working heavily with hard disk (I have 3, and I don't know which one). After several minutes of unresponsiveness, I managed to restart the computer from console (ctrl+alt+f1; this also took some 30 seconds from pressing to actual console screen). After the restart, exactly the same has happened. I tried to restart several times after that and it was all the same. After a while, I installed iotop and found that deja-dup-monitor was making enormous disk readings. I killed its process and system became responsive again. After that, I disabled autostart for deja-dup-monitor and had no problems with it since. I don't know why this program behaves as it does, but I think that it is unacceptable behaviour, especially on a fresh install. As I remember, I had the same experience with my previous install, 12.04 (removed deja- dup completely). Public bug reported: As suggested in bug #755842, I'm filling a new bug repport. I have installed the latest update to compiz-plugins-man (1:0.9.7.0~bzr19-0ubuntu10.1), but for me the problem remains: when clicking on a launcher icon of some programs that are not in the current workspace, they get moved so that part of them is on a current workspace. It works like this every time for certain programs. My test case is this: 1. Firefox on workspace 1, Double commander nad K3B on workspace 2 (K3B is positioned in lower right corner, but it is a few pixels away from both edges), Synaptic on workspace 3 (also, its edge is a few pixels away from border), as presented in Positions1.jpg 2. Public bug reported: As suggested in Bug #755842, post 54, I'm reporting a new bug. Here is how it can be reproduced every timer for me: If workspaces are arranged like 12 34 1. Open GCStar program on workspace 4, non-maximized, touching right edge. 2. Open Firefox on workspace 1 3. When on workspace 1, click ok GCStar in launcher The result is that GCStar window is moved so that part of it goes on workspace 3 and clicking on its icon on Launcher does not switch either to workspace 3 nor 4, it stays on 1. This happens with other programs too, but with this one every time. [Bug 418470] Re: USB Gamepad detected as mouse (Speedlink 360 style)
Mark, I had the same error messages, they are generated because there are two id's that match joystick's name. I don't know which one of the two is actually for controlling the joystick events, so I set properties for both. The errors are for second id. If you are bothered with the messages, you could change xinput set lines to: xinput set-prop $id Generate Mouse Events 0 2/dev/null xinput set-prop $id Generate Key Events 0 2/dev/null (it maybe needs to be 1/dev/null, I'm not sure) And, to be free of mouse acrobatics, go to keyboard preferences/shortcuts/custom shortcuts and create keyboard shortcut for activating your script (for example, ctrl+alt+j should be free for use). This way, you'll never see any output, not even the error messages... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/418470 Title: USB Gamepad detected as mouse (Speedlink 360 style) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/+bug/418470/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 933776] Re: [regression] scale/spread: Initiate Window Picker for All Windows does not show all windows. It shows only windows from curent workspace.
I'm failing to see how is fixing this equvivalent to changing default behaviour. The problem is, as I understand, that in one moment Scale plugin's actions Initiate window picker for all windows and Initiate window picker (for current workspace) became the same - Initiate window picker (for current workspace). They both behave exactly the same way. Instead to bind the shortcut to later action, they CHANGED the former to behave exactly like the later. The result - an important functionality is thrown out because it was easier to make Initiate window picker for all windows behave exactly like Initiate window picker (for current workspace) , than to just bind the shortcut to Initiate window picker (for current workspace) and to leave Initiate window picker for all windows to be used if someone desires. I do not know any other way in Unity to drag and drop files between windows on different workspaces. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/933776 Title: [regression] scale/spread: Initiate Window Picker for All Windows does not show all windows. [Bug 1058388] [NEW] Ubuntu 12.10 Beta 2 multi-monitor support is broken beyond beleif
Public bug reported: I just installed 12.10 beta 2, and updated all the packages. I was hoping that multi-monitor support will get better, but I was in for a big surprise: not that it isn't better, it's worse than it was in 12.04. I have a i5 machine with 8GB ram, AMD 7950 graphic card, an Dell 24 monitor and Acer projector. After the installation on HD (I used open source driver), my system was configured in mirror mode, with 1024x768 resolution (Screen01; 1400x1050 was just chosen, not applied, it was changed to 1024x768 before turning off mirror mode). In 12.04, because I was unable to mirror monitor's 1920x1200 to projector's 1024x768, I was keeping them in side-by-side configuration. So, my first impulse was to turn off the mirror mode (Screen02, screenshot of Expo view on Screen03). After clicking on Apply, I got all my windows dissapeared (Screen04, photograph). As it turned out, all my windows were moved to second screen (projector, which was just plugged in, but not turned on), which can be seen on screenshot Screen05. Expo view also gave me nothing (Screen06, photograph), but screenshot of Expo view shows that there are windows (Screen07) - why is this different??? On my next attempt, I turned off Mirror mode AND turned off the projector at the same time, and was finally able to see all windows on the monitor. After that, I changed monitor's resolution to 1920x1200 and I tried to turn mirror mode on, and got completly screwed-up desktop (Screen07). I tried to expand shrinked windows and got something like Screen08. Because it was impossible to recover desktop, I logged out and logged back in, and launcher was gone (Screen10). After several failed attempts to bring it back, I logged out, deleted all settings from home folder (.config, .compiz, .gconf), logged back in and launcher was back. Additionally, on Display settings, if I click on projector icon (Acer), and then on monitor icon (Dell), I cannot click again on Projector - it just isn't active anymore. By accident, I discovered that area ABOVE the projector icon was active (Screen11, there is no cursor on screenshot, but you can see the tooltip just above from where it is). My next test was to see if windows are on their places when projector display is turned on and off. Screen12 shows initial window configuration, with projector turned off. After turning projector on (Display settings), the windows were moved, just like in 12.04 (Screen13). Additionally, terminal and text editor were maximized (they weren't before). I then aranged windows to where they should be (Screen14), turned projector off, and they were moved again (Screen15). Notice that terminal and text editor windows are split between two workspaces, but one half of text editor window isn't visible. After clicking on it, the other half became visible (Screen16). Additionally, whenever I turn projector on or off, the mouse is moved on some seemingly random location. There is more, but this is what I experienced in the first half hour of trying 12.10 beta 2. All pictures are in attached archive. If someone needs me to do additional tests, I'll gladly do, because 12.10 in this state just isn't usable for me. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1058388 Title: Ubuntu 12.10 Beta 2 multi-monitor support is broken beyond beleif To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1058388/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Replace existing function (line 160) with this one and compile: static string fallbackfont(DDDFont font) { switch (font) { case DefaultDDDFont: return -*-helvetica-bold-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-*-*; case VariableWidthDDDFont: return -*-helvetica-medium-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-*-*; case FixedWidthDDDFont: case DataDDDFont: return -*-lucidatypewriter-medium-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-*-*; case SymbolDDDFont: return -*-symbol-*-*-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-adobe-*; } assert(0); ::abort(); return ; // Never reached } Or, just replace iso8859 in font string with *. After this, DDD will use existing lucidatypewriter font and will not display any warnings about them. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/959664 Title: ddd emits warnings when started from command line To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ddd/+bug/959664/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 994128] [NEW] Windows get misplaced after turning on/off secondary monitor
Public bug reported: I have a configuration with two video outputs, one is a 1900x1200 monitor, and another one in 1024x768 projector (capable of using up to 1400x1050 resolution). Since I cannot scale 1900x1200 to projector, I'm turning it on/off from Displays settings panel. When the projector output is turned on, some windows are automatically placed on it (in the same workspace). When I turn off projector's output, some windows are placed on another workspace. All this can be seen in 4 screenshot I provided. First one is windows positions before turning on the projector, second shows windows after turning on the projector, third shows windows placed where they supposed to be (I moved them there before turning the projector off), and fourth shows windows placement after turning off the projector.
