I rebuilt the 1.0.6-2 source package in a pbuilder chroot and the resulting packages all seem to work fine. I see the Trusty version has a build1 suffix without any changes. Thanks for taking your time to report this issue and help making Ubuntu better. I get the same error message when attempting to run gearadmin on Ubuntu 13.10. When I tried on Ubuntu Trusty (the current development version) it ran as expected though. I find this interesting, because except for a rebuild, that's the exact same package.
