I am able to browser the DCIM folder on the ANdroid device I have using
Ubuntu MATE 20.04 and newer.

I have this problem too in Ubuntu Mate 18.04. I tried it with a persistent USB
installed genuine Ubuntu 18.04 (64bit) and that too shows this problem. On
16.04 LTS the problem does not occur.
Indeed it is just the DCIM/Camera folder that has the problem.
