[Bug 1815887] Re: Xubuntu 18.04.2 i386 installation fails to boot on kvm (kvm3d cpu)

2019-02-14 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Actually, this seems to be more of a cosmic kvm32 type issue. It feels
to me that when it's not booting, it's not even reaching grub actually.
I was able to get the system booting by pressing 'shift' when kvm was
starting - I was getting the grub boot-menu then and could successfully
start the system. Then for the next few runs it was working out-of-the-
box again. Later I got the same issue.

So it all feels like not related to the actual images, more like an
issue in cosmic. Marking this as Incomplete until someone else also
encounters this bug.

[Bug 1815887] Re: Xubuntu 18.04.2 i386 installation fails to boot on kvm (kvm3d cpu)

2019-02-14 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
** Description changed:

During 18.04.2 iso testing, I have picked up the i386 Xubuntu isos for a
quick sanity-test on kvm. Even though the live-session tests have
succeeded (everything seemed to work as expected), I seem to be having
issues booting an installed system on kvm.

The Xubuntu system installed correctly. I have selected full-disk
installation and disabled downloading updates during install. Then I
have proceeded with trying to boot the installed system:

  kvm -cdrom ~/bionic-desktop-i386.iso -drive
  if=virtio,file=/home/sil2100/hdd.qcow2 -m 2048 -boot c -cpu kvm32

The boot process hangs on a black screen and blinking cursor. No splash
- screen was visible. Tried installing twice and the effect was the same.
+ screen was visible. Tried installing twice and the result was the same.
