[Bug 1030094] Re: LVM encrypted, screen turned off after grub
I have what I believe is the same problem. I have an Ubuntu 12.04 with encrypted filesystem, which started displaying the problem after upgrading to 15.04. Bizarrely, the screen turns on and correctly shows the encryption password prompt if I hit the down arrow on the keyboard, but not when hitting any other key. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1030094 Title: LVM encrypted, screen turned off after grub To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plymouth/+bug/1030094/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1030094] Re: LVM encrypted, screen turned off after grub
Looks like this made it into 12.10. In my case it IS a duplicate of #1042225 and hitting escape once for the textual and twice for the graphical FDE password prompt works for me. I've upgraded from 12.04 (and before this I've been following stable releases). Removing the VT handoff option off the kernel line at boot makes the graphical prompt appear without screen blanking / the display switching to power saving / standby mode. [Bug 1030094] Re: LVM encrypted, screen turned off after grub
Copied over the ProcFB setting from that other bug, then; it's *possible* that there's a bug preventing the fb driver from loading and that this is the problem you're seeing, but I think this is unlikely. The lspci certainly shows that the nouveau driver is loaded. What we can't easily see from this bug report is what plymouth themes are configured / in use. Any of this information that you can get manually from the install in question would be helpful. In bug #1042225, Felix Geyer suggests that his bug might be a duplicate of this one. When you hit the black screen on boot, can you confirm whether hitting Esc brings up the text prompt, and whether hitting it a second time brings up the splash screen? ** Description changed: Hallo Not reproducible in VM.
