[Bug 1030094] Re: LVM encrypted, screen turned off after grub

2015-07-10 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
I have what I believe is the same problem. I have an Ubuntu 12.04 with
encrypted filesystem, which started displaying the problem after
upgrading to 15.04.

Bizarrely, the screen turns on and correctly shows the encryption
password prompt if I hit the down arrow on the keyboard, but not when
hitting any other key.

[Bug 1030094] Re: LVM encrypted, screen turned off after grub

2012-10-26 Thread Moritz Naumann
Looks like this made it into 12.10. In my case it IS a duplicate of
#1042225 and hitting escape once for the textual and twice for the
graphical FDE password prompt works for me. I've upgraded from 12.04
(and before this I've been following stable releases). Removing the VT
handoff option off the kernel line at boot makes the graphical prompt
appear without screen blanking / the display switching to power saving /
standby mode.

If you need more details please let me know.

Grub menu not showed at boot, pressing Esc console appear with passphrase
request to unlock sda5_crypt.
Strang thing is that it happens alternatively, one boot fail and the other
works ( the time countdown for automatically boot not working, so have to
choose the boot line and press enter)

Hallo Steve
No, pressing Esc don't produce any effect, it still off.
In today's build the grub has the large size characters, like removing the
splash entry for the linux line, but the monitor stay off.

[Bug 1030094] Re: LVM encrypted, screen turned off after grub

2012-08-27 Thread Steve Langasek
Copied over the ProcFB setting from that other bug, then; it's
*possible* that there's a bug preventing the fb driver from loading and
that this is the problem you're seeing, but I think this is unlikely.
The lspci certainly shows that the nouveau driver is loaded.

What we can't easily see from this bug report is what plymouth themes
are configured / in use. Any of this information that you can get
manually from the install in question would be helpful.

In bug #1042225, Felix Geyer suggests that his bug might be a duplicate
of this one. When you hit the black screen on boot, can you confirm
whether hitting Esc brings up the text prompt, and whether hitting it a
second time brings up the splash screen?

** Description changed:

  Hallo
  Not reproducible in VM.
  Testing Ubuntu server mad64 20120727 and 20120817.1:
Performing an installation of lvm encryption at the reboot the screen is
switched off just after grub.
To have the system working we need to remove, from the boot line, the splash
entry.
Doing so we will have the passphrase request in a black screen.
If instead we remove the vt_handoff entry the splashscreen will be shown, but
the passphrase request will appear in a bad position at the center of the
screen on a background purple with Ubuntu 12.10 written.

[Bug 1030094] Re: LVM encrypted, screen turned off after grub

2012-08-17 Thread Fabio Marconi
Hallo Steve
the attached files are from a fresh installed system that reproduce the bug,
but apport-collect was run from the unlocked system.
To unlock, simply boot a live session and on nautilus click on the disk, insert
the passphrase, reboot and plymouth is now shown requesting passphrase.
During the live session I've tried to look if there was something logged but
there's no syslog or kern.log inside, just few unuseful things.
The system lock down just after grub, without the possibility to have a
console, only sysrq key working, ssh impossible.
Thanks
Fabio

2012-08-16 Thread Brian Murray
That sounds more like a plymouth issue to me than one with debian-
installer.

** Package changed: debian-installer (Ubuntu) = plymouth (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1030094] Re: LVM encrypted, screen turned off after grub

2012-07-27 Thread Fabio Marconi
** Description changed:

  Hallo
  Testing Ubuntu server mad64 20120727:
Performing an installation of lvm encryption at the reboot the screen is
switched off just after grub.
To have the system working we need to remove, from the boot line, the splash
entry.
Doing so we will have the passphrase request in a black screen.
- If instead we remove the vt_handoff entry the splash will be shown, but the
passphrase request will appear in a bad position
- at the center of the screen on a background purple with Ubuntu 12.10 written.
+ If instead we remove the vt_handoff entry the splashscreen will be shown, but
the passphrase request will appear in a bad position at the center of the
screen on a background purple with Ubuntu 12.10 written.
  Thanks
  Fabio
