Ubuntu 14.04.3 - Thunderbird 38.3.0 Samba shares are mounted and accessible via Files file manager. Drag-n-Drop file from mounted Samba share into new Email attachments area works. Cannot send email due to: "Sending of the message failed. There was an error attaching smb://server/path/to/file.

I have checked this again on Ubuntu 13.10 with Thunderbird 1:24.4.0+build1-0ubuntu0 and seems to work as long as the network share is connected through Nautilus already. When I then go to attach I can choose the already connected network share in the left Places panel. What does not work is when

For the 40+ Ubuntu workstations at my employer I have a workaround: In Nautilus create a bookmark that points to the .gvfs folder. I named it Shares/Devices. People can then click this bookmark to see all the GVFS mounted shares and devices. I then had to train our users in this inconsistency.
