It is now installed, I have done a variant the procedure from comment
#2(switch to complete generic kernel). Now the headers are there and the
amd prop. driver is working.

Can you check if the package linux-headers-`uname –r` for kernel headers
are installed on your system? This package is necessary for building
fglrx kernel module. And as I know, it is not installed by default on
Ubuntu 12.10 64bit.

I have the exactly same problem even if my graphic card is a little bit
earlier one. HD6450
I set this to confirmed.
Could we adapt this ticket and the summary to HD6xxx serie?

In comments to bug 1068661 was proposed workaround which works for me. Here is
what I've done:
1. Switch back to open-source driver.
2. Issued
$ sudo apt-get install linux-header-generic
command
3. Switched to AMD proprietary driver (fglrx-updates)
4. Rebooted.
After reboot Unity works as
