To repro in an installed system (I'm using the nexus 7)
- Remove [ -x /usr/bin/ubiquity-dm ] { stop; exit 0; } from
/etc/init/whoopsie.conf
- sudo apt-get install oem-config-gtk
- sudo touch /var/lib/oem-config/run
then reboot. You should get a black screen instead of oem-config.

FYI the last line that nm gets to on my nexus 7 is the call to
nm_client_new - it goes south from there somewhere inside network-
manager.

This bug is easily reproducible on lubuntu. I've tried to reproduce it
with the Ubuntu daily image and can't, either by choosing 'Install
Ubuntu' at the ubiquity-dm screen or by choosing it from the (not shown
by default on Ubuntu) boot menu.
I think this is in some way specific to lubuntu's
thanks for the info, many people in ubuntu-quality are having it happen
intermittently, in lubuntu, xubuntu and ubuntu.

As far as I know ConsoleKit was not previously required to start up
ubiquity-dm and it's dependencies. It's interesting to know which piece
of software requires consolekit.
