Gossip upstream has quit supporting telepathy. Work is going on in the
empathy project now. Do you have the problem with empathy (in gutsy)?

could you try to run gabble in debug mode?
1. Start GABBLE_DEBUG=all telepathy-gabble in a terminal
2. Start gossip as usual
3. paste the output from the terminal in this bug report

Here's the output. When I started gossip I went into the accounts dialog
and pressed Connect on the Jabber account - that's when the bulk of
this output was produced.

The problem is the lines:

Connecting without SSL doesn't work (Connection refused).
I changed in /usr/share/telepathy/managers/gabble.manager the line:
default-ignore-ssl-errors=true (was previously set to false)
and restarted telepathy-gabble but this didn't seem to help:

I just noticed that you seem to be registering with the server?

Try to just log in normally.

I'm not trying to register. I already have an account on that server. I
didn't touch the register button, just the one that says Connect in
the gossip account prefs.
If it's trying to do this then maybe it's a separate bug
