jal, in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/partman- base/+bug/115171/comments/3 I asked Sam for some log files, noting that I cannot fix the problem without those. 'Knoppix was able to get past the problem without an issues at all. I was allowed to reformat the disk any way I chose. After using Knoppix I was able to return to the Feisty installer and everything turned out fine.' Same problem with the feisty installer and same fix. [Bug 115171] Re: Partition Tool in Base Installer Refuses to work around a Partition Problem
I was using the Desktop CD. There was really nothing in syslog, however this is the first I've heard of /var/log/partman :-( Not sure if I can duplicate this problem again. Keeping an eye out with each subsequent reboot, however. -- Partition Tool in Base Installer Refuses to work around a Partition Problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/115171 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 115171] Re: Partition Tool in Base Installer Refuses to work around a Partition Problem
Were you using the alternate install CD or the desktop CD? Unfortunately, since you've now erased the evidence, this may well turn out to be unfixable unless you can reproduce it again and get me log files from when it's breaking. I need /var/log/syslog and /var/log/partman. ** Changed in: base-installer (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed = Needs Info -- Partition Tool in Base Installer Refuses to work around a Partition Problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/115171 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 115171] Re: Partition Tool in Base Installer Refuses to work around a Partition Problem
I don't know how applicable this would be, but that sounds like it might be bad sectors in just the right spot to screw things up. As for the the lockup, how long were you waiting? Sometimes the wait can be amazingly long. How many partitions were you using, their name, and type? Did you try changing the order of the partitions on the drive? I'll see if I can recreate the problem with a little editing here and there to see if it's hardware or software problem. C. [Bug 115171] Re: Partition Tool in Base Installer Refuses to work around a Partition Problem
from the lockup perspective we are talking on the order of 5 minutes. I've gone through this procedure before so I have an idea what seems normal, and this was way too long. In terms of partitions I had 4. They were swap, boot, ., and home in that order all ext3 partition types except for swap. The problem seemed to occur with the /home parition. No partition was over 40 Gbytes and the total capacity of the harddrive was approximately 60 Gbytes. Since I removed all partitions and told the partitioner to just use one large partition I did mix it up a bit. BTW, as stated above, that failed using the Ubuntu partitioner. My point in mentioning this problem at all was to highlight the fact that the Ubuntu mke2fs failed to correct the problem regardless of the partitioning arrangement, yet the one on the Knoppix 5.1 cd worked just fine. It was particularly frustrating since they were both the same versions. I don't know how you will be able to reproduce the problem, but good luck!!! thanks for the response -- Partition Tool in Base Installer Refuses to work around a Partition Problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/115171 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
