I used synaptic to install gnome I think, because I didn't know the
actual name of it (I kept trying gdm, gnome-desktop, etc), but I used
the commandline to uninstall. apt-get uninstall gnome.
I looked through synaptic and searched login and did ubuntu-bug login
for the unable to log in error.
apt-get uninstall gnome.
Well, that will only uninstall the gnome metapackage, it won't uninstall
the dependencies; so it sounds like expected behavior here.
Since you've filed other bugs for your other issues, closing this
plymouth bug as invalid.

The plymouth error you were shown is unrelated to the problem you had
uninstalling gnome. Since the problem you're reporting is about the
gnome desktop not being uninstalled, I think you want to report this bug
elsewhere - but I don't know where. What tool did you use to uninstall
