Presumably your system has a builtin Intel graphics card as well; if you
want to use the NVidia card, you need to disable the Intel card in the
BIOS.

Indeed we explicitly *don't* show the nvidia driver if the intel driver
is already loaded, as X.org cannot currently handle hybrid mode (the
debug log will confirm). You can disable the intel card in the BIOS,
then you can use
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

I'm reassigning this bug to ubuntu-drivers-common which does the
detection work.
Also, I'm not sure if this is a bug at all since currently the discrete
NVIDIA card can't be used with stock Ubuntu no matter which drivers are
installed. So there's no point showing entries in software-properties
