I then reinstalled kdesudo and reran dolphin .. the error is back again. It is 6 months since this little bug was first reported and it is still not properly fixed. I also confirm this bug still present in Kubuntu 7.10 Beta (up-to-date as of 10-01-07). Using Open as root changes ownership of the bookmarks.xml file to root. I can conform this bug is still present in Kubuntu 7.10 Beta. After I have once used open as root, then every time I use and close Dolphin, then I get this error message. This is a serious problem for a non-expert user since - The error message is persistent and frequent. - It's warning is severe (although incorrect). - It prevents any further setting of Dolphin bookmarks. - It can only be corrected by removing a file from a hidden directory: /home/myuser/.kde/share/apps/d3lphin/bookmarks.xml The problem could be reduced if Dolphin only writes to the bookmarks.xml file when bookmarks are changed.
