XFCE printer GUI does not set the default printer when there is only

them in the initial description of this bug report) but starting system-
config-printer in a terminal window via the command

Tim, principally system-config-printer sets newly added printers as
default if there is not already a default printer. This is done by the
cupshelpers.activateNewPrinter() method, called in the
on_btnNPApply_clicked() method in newprinter.py (interactive queue
addition) and in the create_queue()

Tim, seems that we need to take care that s-c-p always sets a default
printer. I suggest the following if the first printer is created to
check whether there is no default printer (network printer or so,
lpstat -d) to set this printer as default. WDYT?

I thought it already did, but looking at the code it seems it doesn't.
There is code there to fix up the default when the default printer is
renamed, but not to set it when there is none set and the first queue is
created.

Alan, this I know, but whgat I want to know is whether in an XFCE
environment system-config-printer is the standard printer setup tool or
whether if you select the printer administration functionality in the
XFCE desktop an XFCE-specific tool appears or system-config-printer.

Running system-config-printer from the command line opens the same
printer configuration tool which is opened by the XFCE Settings program.
XFCE uses system-config-printer as its printer settings tool, and the
bug I describe is indeed a bug in system-config-printer.

Does XFCE has its own printer setup tool or is simply system-config-
printer used?
To find it out, open a terminal window and run the command
system-config-printer
If you get Command not found XFCE uses its own printer setup tool. If
a window pops up, have alook whether it is identical with the
