I can further confirm that a docx can be successfully opened within
OpenOffice 2.3 but is not associated as a writer document under Gnome;
the default behaviour is to open as an archive. This bug should really
be fixed prior to Gutsy release IMO.

I can confirm this.
To get a sample docx file you search in google for filetype:docx
http://www.google.com/search?q=filetype%3Adocx
So you can find for testing a docx under
http://www.richkiddventures.com/Services.docx

Thanks for the bug report.
I am not aware of such a possibility. As listed in the new features [1],
openOffice.org doesn't offer to open OOXML files. Could you post a link
describing this features please?
