Thanks for the feedback, I think the culprit may have something to do
with (or perhaps be a reverse-depends of?) one of the
libgl*-mesa-*-lts-:i386 libraries skype recurse-depends on,
then:

Indeed, I had Skype installed and when I got the upgrade to work, I had
to reinstall Skype.
