Confirmed that this situation exists in Gutsy, but it didn't exist with Feisty -- with the Feisty release, I only had to compile the ALSA from the current snapshots (I used alsa-driver-hg20070911), but with Gutsy the ALSA snapshot compiles without incident but fails with a string of snd_pcm and
