In my case the bug is located in nvidia-glx-177.
I use a Sony 46 inch TV to watch movies in dual view.
After log-in into Ubuntu the right resolution is shown on the TV screen for
just a second.
Then, the background image becomes smaller but I can still move the move across
the whole screen.
