The solution I've found is to download Debian's version of this package:
https://packages.debian.org/en/sid/all/ttf-mscorefonts-
installer/download
Then the fonts install without any problems! Hooray, and

check and update your headers if that dint work. its the only other

ttf-mscorefonts-installer from debian

The "fix" from John Ortiz is not a solution because it opens users up to
a security vulnerability where anyone / apps can hijack and gain root
