Ah, excuse my confusion. I'd missed that Joseph Salisbury works at Canonical. Joseph, could you increase the priority of this bug? It makes many (of not all) of the Skylake-based Lenovo laptops unusable, and there is a working patch which has been accepted upstream (albeit for 4.6.x not 4.4.x). Thanks, Lukas. The patch has evolved a bit, so it could be the v4 patch as (I think) linked above, or the one I linked to. I'm not keen on installing a third party kernel. I will have a lot of systems to deploy this to and will need to track future updates to Ubuntu's 4.4.0-xx, so it's not just a case of getting it working. I'd also like to use secure boot, which AIUI would rule out rolling my own kernels in practical terms. I managed to build a postfixed kernel by setting the CONFIG_VERSION_SIGNATURE variable to "Ubuntu 4.4.0-15.31-generic~test 4.4.6" (note the ~test). You can set it using make menuconfig (General setup -> arbitrary version signature) or editing the .config. I didnt quite get instructions from the wiki page either, but I guess here is not the correct place to discuss that. I think the patch you mentioned is exactly the one jsalisbury applied to his custom build, so no need to build your own kernel if you just want this patch. On the mainline bugtracker, there is a bugfix suggestion [1]. I tried to apply this patch on the ubuntu 4.4.0-15 kernel and it does _not_ solve the issue. Applying the same patch to mainline 4.5 does fix the issue.
