Bernd Porr, the next step is to fully commit bisect from kernel 3.13 to 4.4 in order to identify the last good kernel commit, followed immediately by the first bad one. Not that I'm aware of. I had 32bit and 64bit versions running and it was fine. Just tested with 4.8-rc4: no ethernet, no bluetooth at all and graphics defaults to VGA only. Booted back to the stock ubuntu xenial kernel and bluetooth/network is back up running. Looks to me like a massive regression. Tested with a: Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0a5c:217f Broadcom Corp. BCM2045B (BDC-2.1) on 4.8.0-rc1+ #1 SMP Fri Aug 12 15:49:49 BST 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux which works fine if the datarate is not too high (approx 50kbps) but becomes unreliable at higher data rates. Decive discovery is also very reliable. I confirm the issue with the Broadcom 20702A0 bluetooth 4 dongle, exactly as described. Also tested with earlier kernels on Debian and Ubuntu systems. No possibility of reliable usage over bluetooth. I would greatly appreciate this bug being given attention. We have a University lab full of Linux machines waiting to start a sensors experiment involving reading data over bluetooth from a BBC micro:bit. While this bug persists, we can't run that experiment on Linux, which is about a bad a message as you can send to an EE student. Politics and trolls aside, "You have to use MS Windows to deal with embedded systems" is the opposite of the truth; I'm sure that's not controversial. Tested on: Linux bp1-ThinkPad-X220 4.8.0-040800rc1-generic #201608072231 SMP Mon Aug 8 02:33:57 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux The rfcomm connection is as unreliable as before. I've attached a file where I transmit comma separated data from a bluetooth device. The data is corrupted from time to time. There are 125 lines / sec transmitted which is well within the permitted bandwidth. The file was created by "cat /dev/rfcomm > rfcomm.dat". After a couple of seconds the connection is broken and cat returns to the command line. The same happens with putty (baudrate set to 230,000 but doesn't matter which I set). The same transmission works perfectly under both Windows (via putty) and Android. I had it running there for many hours without any data corruption and/or crashes. Under Android I tested it with a terminal program and I've also written a custom app which runs fine. Also tested with Broadcom 20702A0 bluetooth 4 dongle. Similar problem: here at low bitrates a bit more stable but loses connection after a while plus data corruption but no fatal crash.
