Maybe the installation script of GRUB isn't supposed to take another
installation into account, but shouldn't that be up to the installer ?

For me it didn't.
Maybe it has to do with my 6.10 installation being on another disk ?
I suppose somebody with a spare machine could simulate that :
Install 6.10 on a first disk
Install 7.10 on the second disk.

A new installation isn't supposed to import old grub settings. However
it is surprising that your 6.10 installation wasn't detected. Did you by
any chance happen to change your setup prior to installing?

The installer proposed to import certain documents, etc. ... .
It's a shame these grub settings are overwritten.
What with those who run multiple OSses ?
I know Ubuntu rules them all, yet... ;-)

Grub settings were not overwritten; rather, Ubuntu's bootloader was made
default. You could restore old grub settings, from the Live CD, however,
this will overwrite Ubuntu's settings. If you want to add your edgy
installation as a boot option, then you've just got to mount the drive
it is
